001 - [Video]

[The image displayed is of nothing human. It is, in fact, nothing more than a panda in a pair of darned pants standing straight up as if he knows no other way to stand. He’s obviously in the new “home” he’s been given, and if it’s possible for him to seem even more out of place, he somehow manages it. It’s similar but it’s not, and he’s never seen anything like the kedan before.

He’s entirely out of his element, and if it was ever doubted that a panda could display that much with expression, he’s living, standing, awkward proof that a panda can do just that.]

Uh. [Brief, something that was almost a word but never quite made it. He has no idea about these devices except for what he’s been told, and he still finds it difficult to believe. Others can see him, he can see them, and they can speak that way. How is that possible?] So. Hi. This showing a picture, right? A…a moving one, I guess. I don’t really understand, but that’s what those guys told me, so it probably does, right?

[He’s blathering. This is hardly anything new with him, and he realizes it, and that also shows. He runs a paw over his face, ears popping right back into place when it passes over them.]

Yeah, so, the introduction thing, I guess. I’m, uh, [awkward] Po [still awkward] and I’m from a place called the Valley of Peace, and [little less awkward] I never really thought that when you ascended, it was to another city. Thought of it more like another plane. But that’s okay, because you can’t ascend anything when you’re asleep, but you can apparently get trapped, and that’s pretty, uh. That really sucks. Like. It sucks a lot.

[He’s still obviously out of his element, but he stands up a little straight and stops fidgeting.]

Is there anything that whoever else here can tell me that doesn’t suck?

[Things that suck less are also wanted, and it’s after a close-up of a bear paw that the image disconnects.]

[This is good. The less Po has to think about how animals are in all these other worlds, the better.]

Yeah, I heard that the food's kind of scarce. It's not what I'm used to, either. [Eggs? Seriously? Maybe it's a different thing, but highly doubts it. He hadn't bothered to ask about meat, because he figured he could cross that bridge whenever he saw it.] It's enough for humans to live on, though, isn't it?

I think people in my world must eat more than people here. [ or rather, ace eats an obscene amount of food and pretty much only hangs out with people who also eat obscene amounts of food. ] I haven't stopped being hungry since I got here.

[Hunger. Po's not a fan (then again, who is?). But he hasn't gotten settled enough yet to realize he's positively starving.]

Is it because of the rationing? Because of the foods they put on there?

Nah, I'll eat just about anything, so long as it's cooked.

[ ace is pretty much a bottomless pit who often has to cook for himself. and his idea of cooking is burning things to a crisp and calling it good. ]

[Po will cook for him. He will cook properly. There will be no burning, and nothing will be crispy that's not supposed to be that way.]

You eat a lot usually?

[Why isn't this guy bear-sized.]

I, uh. I do, too. Obviously.

[ po will be ace's new best friend if he gives ace food. especially if it's good tasting food. ]

Really? How much do bears eat?

[In that case...meet your new best friend, Ace.]

I'm the only bear I've ever met, but I eat a lot. I think it's less to do with being hungry and more to do with needing it, you know? I can't function well if I'm not full, which means I end up eating quite a bit.

I know exactly what you mean. Everything's shitty and harder to do when you're hungry.

Well, hopefully the need for rationing goes away soon.

[Hope he likes Chinese!

Although, wow, language. It's nothing Po hasn't heard before, though, so he's not about to start cringing. Everyone talks differently, for the most part. Who is he to tell someone how they should or shouldn't talk?]

That'd be great. I have no problems working in order to...afford...things, but like, that's gotta be a drain on everyone. Maybe the turtle will get better and the rationing will go away. The better the turtle gets, maybe things will get better all around!

It's too bad there doesn't seem to be a vet on board.

[ even though this is a city and animal, not a ship, it still seems more natural to say "on board" when talking about being on something that's in the ocean. ]

I'm no good when it comes to caring for animals or I'd try to help. But I hope it gets better soon.

[There's a word here Po doesn't understand. There's been quite a few, but this one sticks out. It has something to do with sick animals, maybe?]

What's a vet? What would a vet do to make the turtle better?

It's short for veterinarian. Animal doctors.

[ it's kind of weird to think that a bear doesn't know what a vet is. but maybe they just call them doctors where he comes from. ]

Doctors? What does that mean?

[Sorry, Ace. It's healers all the way in Ancient China.]

Uh... they're people who help other people when they get sick or hurt?

Oh! A healer. I've never heard that term for them before.

[Or knew that animals had special doctors.

Then again, he never knew humans before, so this is all uncharted territory for him.]

I haven't heard of a lot of this stuff before. Have you been here for a long time?

Maybe it's something from my world.

[ he's run into a bunch of things like that already, so it could be possible. ]

Nah, I just got here a week ago.

[Try not to blow his mind too badly; he's barely got it back the way he wants it.]

A week? And you're already hungry? Really?

I was hungry when I got here. It hasn't gone away.

That's awful.

[Po has a skill. It seems to be needed around here, and badly. He'll gladly fill that in.]

If you ever have the food for it and want someone to cook stuff that'll last a few days, let me know. I can do that for you easily. Really, no problem at all.

[ ace is not used to people just offering to cook for him. stealing people's food? sure. eating and running? definitely. people that aren't his crew wanting to cook for him? no way. ]

I don't really have anything to give you in return.

[Po will cook for anyone, any time. It doesn't matter. Someone's hungry? Food to the rescue!]

Sure I would! And you don't have to get me anything in return. As long as I can make something you like, that's all I need.

[There's nothing quite like seeing someone completely pleased with their meal, after all.]
