[video] - from Kaine's suite

[Someone is healing up and recovering quite nicely. Which now leaves that someone with a new, very serious problem.

Peter's… kind of bored. So he hops onto Kaine's console, since he's been staying with him while recovering, and opens up a video feed. Mask-less and in the Kedan clothes that Tony got him, he offers the network a sheepish sort of smile.]

Um… Hi everyone. I have a real quick question, while I'm still trying to get a feel for the layout of this place… Would there happen to be some kind of library around here? Just… I wanted to like, catch up on some reading that I've wanted to do for forever.

[ Wow, you're lame, Parker. ] Though if there isn't one, then… That's totally fine, too. Just curious, that's all.

What are you doing? [The voice seems to come from nowhere, as Kaine can't be seen anywhere in the room.]

[Peter looks over from his seat in front of the console-- Only to realize he can't see Kaine. So he'll just address the whole suite.]

Saying "Hello, I'd like a book or two" to the turtle world?

[So he reaches over, turns off the video feed… and double checks that it is in fact off before he turns back toward where he's hearing Kaine's voice.]

Now it is. Have you not used it at all…?

[Once he gets the all clear, he wills the suit back to visible and drops his medicine in front of him.]

[Rubs his tample.] You sound like the guy that tried to teach me to use it. I don't do computers. [They've gotten too advanced for him.]

[Peter takes the medicine into his hands, making no move to actually take it yet.] She's always so thoughtful.

You "don't do computers"?? Why not? Computers are, y'know. Everywhere now.

How's your side?

[Purposefully doesn't answer the second question. Though he knows May--or any of the Avengers--could give away his past at a moment's notice, he's still been trying to keep it a secret from Peter. They've been getting along well... almost too well, and telling him he was in jail for the past however many years for framing his version of him for murder was sure to destroy whatever little bond they've built up.]

[He raises an eyebrow slightly. Peter's not an idiot; he totally noticed the lack of an answer there. He'll let it pass, though. At least for now.]

It seems better, so far. [He gestures with the medicine in his hands.] I am getting drugged up, here.

You're definitely looking better. When you ran into me, you'd seen better days.

I think food, medicine, and stitches helped with that.

Thanks again for all that, by the way. [He's probably said thanks more than once already, but-- he likes making sure it's said.]

Enough. Thank me again and I'm throwing you out. And I'll be sure to tear your stitches open when I do it. [He's lucky he's still wearing the mask, because that might have been accompanied by a hint of a smile. That he would never admit to.]

Besides, you're actually a bit better a patient than Aracely--barely, either that or second time's the charm.

[He's not sure if he's serious about that, but--] I'll be sure to thank you for it if you do.

[Only now does he actually take the pain killer medicine, leaning back slightly in his seat.] Aracely. I don't think I know an Aracely?

[Takes his mask off and collapses into one of the couches. He grabs the shirt he tossed around there the day before and pulls it over his head in case the magic voodoo box turns itself on again. See, Peter? He's doing this for you.] I doubt you would, she's the reason I stayed in Houston. [A pause.] I have told you I was living in Houston, right?

Ouch. [Peter puts a hand over his chest.] That hurt me. Right here.

You did mention Houston. [He thinks. If he hadn't, then he had now.] But you didn't offer a lot of details beyond that.

[Slides one of his stingers out from beneath his wrist.] I can gut you a little lower if you'd prefer. [This time you can see his smirk, though it's slightly unnerving.]

[Retracts it and runs a hand through his hair. Yeah, that was by design.] I was on my way to Mexico when I came across Aracely during a stop in Houston. She was hurt and being chased by some sort of Mexican drug cartel or something. Still don't know why.

She wound up staying with me to keep her from being deported.

Only if it means I get matching holes on either side. [It does seem like an odd sort of expression on his face, but that could just be because Peter's never seen it before.]

Soooo... kind of like you adopted her? [That actually sounds really sweet.]

Why were you heading to Mexico?

Arrrrrrrgh! [Grabs a nearby pillow to cover his face with for a moment before letting it fall into his lap.

And it's that pillow that suddenly becomes a lot more interesting when Peter brings up the notion of adopting Aracely. He knew calling her his niece was a mistake, he'd learned that from Anabelle, but would he really go so far as to call her his daughter?

...Would he have died to protect anyone other than his family?] ...Yeah. Not officially or anything, but yeah.

I was looking for a change of scenery.

[Peter should probably be more sorry that he's teasing Kaine like this. ...But he isn't, not really. So he's smiling pretty broadly to himself, even though Kaine isn't looking.]

That's... Not gonna lie, that's possibly the sweetest thing I've heard all day. [Secretly he hopes that pushes a button or two.] I guess you totally got more than you were looking for out in Houston, then.

[He tossed the pillow at Peter's head. The kid was lucky that was all he threw.] I can still change my mind and kill you again, Parker.

[Only Kaine didn't want to be that man anymore. Someone so filled with rage and hate that he would spend 5 years attempting to ruin a single man's life.]

That's the understatement of the century. I certainly never expected to become [Oh what did Annabelle call it...?] a Houstonian. Have you ever been to Texas? It's so fucking hot.

[Peter's smile grew even as he raised an arm to block the incoming pillow.] You've had plenty of chances to change your mind by now. I'm calling you out on being a total secret softie.

Oh- Okay, two things, real quick. One-- No, I haven't, but I think I can totally imagine. And two-- PG-13 rated language only, please? I'm gonna start tallying your F-bombs.

[Kaine was pretty close to snapping, especially considering being called a "softie" of all things. Peter knew nothing of his life (mainly because Kaine was trying to stay extra tight-lipped on his past), and it was pissing him off to have Peter be so way off base.

But then Peter gave him a better opening, one where he could avoid talking about himself all together.] Really, Parker? You can't fucking handle the word "fuck"? I mean shit, you're a fucking teenager, I can't be the first fucking person to say "fuck" you've ever fucking met. And even if I am, this is my fucking place. I can say "fuck" as many times as I fucking want.

Asshole. [Petty? Absolutely.]

[The moment Kaine started swearing, Peter started keeping count on his fingers. ...Eleven curses in total. If he had a dollar - or whatever they used for currency here on the turtle - for every one of those curses...]

It's not about me having sensitive ears or anything. It's just the principle of the thing.

That's eleven by the way. I may have to start charging you.

The principle of the matter is that the real world doesn't give a shit how many fucking times you curse!

[Ugh this is like Houston all over again.]

[Peter looks over at him. And just... smiles.]
