[ age isn't something Akito has ever thought too much about. probably because laws had never quite applied to him, nor had he attended school - both things where age was an important factor. he used to have birthdays when he was very young, but the routine didn't last very long and so, aside from keeping track of how many birthdays he's lived through, Akito doesn't pay much attention to them. they were never a big deal, and seemed so unimportant...
but now, in Keeliai, he's grown used to people giving him strange looks. since spending more time with Ayin, and occasionally Meisheng, he's learned that while he can blend in with the kedan he would still receive looks, and soon enough Akito realized it was because of his stature and apparent age. where back home nobody gave a second glance to a diminutive kid who could take down mobs of armed men with only his legs and some hooks on ribbon, it had caused many kedan to give him a second glance.
normally he still wouldn't think too much about his age. but normally didn't include falling asleep and waking up a year later in a body that decided to start puberty without him. sure, it hadn't been much of a noticeable change, but it was enough to make his body feel like a stranger's and Akito more aware of the fact that he was growing up when he had been so sure that he wouldn't get to experience that particular aspect of life.
so, being confronted with ganglier limbs and a voice that still cracks and is of a lower pitch than he's used to (but has grown kind of fond of), and the fact that he's getting older... well. now Akito wonders, with his birthday approaching, just how old he actually is. ]
Hello! Um... It's been a long time, ne? I haven't checked on the network in forever...
Anyway, I'm Akito! I run Gazelle Delivery. I mostly just do deliveries for The Snakes and the Metalworkers, but I'll do a delivery for anyone who asks!
But, ah... I also have a question! How would... How would you measure your age? In chronological years that you've existed, or in the years of experience you've had? I guess... Physical age compared to mental age? How many years your memory believes you lived as opposed to how many years your body has lived?
Thank-you!

[Actually thinking about what concrete age to consider them, however, certainly wasn't something he ever wanted to waste much time on.]

[ he can't say he entirely agrees with this person's opinion, but it's an interesting topic for conversation. ]

Then maybe. But there is no universal way of figuring this shit out for those with unusual circumstances. It's the kind of thing that needs to be taken case by case.

I guess so. Thanks for answering!

You're trying to figure this out for yourself because the normal parameters people use don't work, right?
[Even if he goes to the trouble of checking out the other conversations, even if he prefers to be a royal bastard who doesn't care about politeness, this topic can't help but prompt him into asking, and keeping it focused on that.]

...Or something like that.

[Based on what he knows about the Misaka clones, he can guess the accelerated growth rate probably messed with this kid's everything.]
Unless you have some special attachment to your creation date like some people I know, or they didn't do a thing for your mental development to make it match your body, I'd go ahead and count those extra years.
To help illustrate, there's this brat I look after. She was created less than two years ago.
[With only her serial number and none of the clones' creation dates, he can only make an estimate based on what he learned while the Experiment was still in progress.]
Looks ten, mostly acts ten with the occasional wiser moment due to influence from those she's neurally linked with... but I treat her like she's ten. Take as much or as little from that as you want.

...That's really cool! I never heard of anyone else with a similar history before.

I should hope to fucking goodness it isn't common. I don't know the reasons behind why they went that far with you, but in the case of the brat and her sisters, it's not cool. It's fucked up.
But I won't get into that.
Does it help?

[ a pause; he considers it. ]
Un, I think it helps. Thank-you.

His tone flattens, words sounding low, rough and almost dead.]
Hopefully it hasn't been too shitty of one.
You're welcome.
[Those last two words sound so strange coming from his mouth, it's hard for him to believe he just said that.]

It's been eventful, and overall very good. I hope that one day your friend can say the same!
