[ That this is over radio is no coincidence. It helps hide the nervousness Casey has about approaching the foreigners for help, and also means this is just for the foreigners. Not that they wouldn't appreciate the help of the kedan, but... well, it's complicated, okay? ]

I have something important to ask, even if it sounds weird. Are there any foreigners here who can fly fair distances, especially in cold climates? I'm not good enough to carry myself at all yet. It's about the rakenga, the draconic-ish creatures on Tavimbi. I don't think they're insentient, at least not to the degree that hunting them simply for food variety is justified at all.

The thing is, nobody else in Hatal seems to have even thought about the possibility, and there's so much documentation in an entire city that I'd never be able to find records of any kind of attempted contact just by myself. Or, if I did, I'd definitely try entering the lottery next.

It's just... [ there's a slight pause, then a tired sigh ] not right. So if anyone wants to help, I'd appreciate it.

[Que one interested angel. Her pretty face will show up on his screen.] I can fly, and I carry fire, so... I'd love to help!

Carry fire?

[An apologetic look.] I wield the gift of fire, [she explains, letting a small flame spring to life in her palm despite the fact that he can't see it.] So if they turn out to be... unreasonable, we'll be safe.

They do seem...different. Then again, everything here seems different.

Oh... [ They hadn't really thought about it, the idea of this being more dangerous than just getting up there. Of course it's always a possibility: hostility happens even between sentient species, but they just haven't wanted to think like that. ] Yeah, that might help. Are you—draconic? Or is it just this place being odd, again?

[ Case in point: everything is different. ]

[She can almost hear the hesitation in his voice, so she softens up a little bit more.] It'll keep us warm up there, too, [she adds, hoping to spin it in a more encouraging light.]

[She does giggle a bit at his next question.] Oh, no no. I'm an angel. I was a guardian once, but that's beside the point. Sounds like wings are what you need.

[Pause.]

I can also read emotions and inner light, so that... might come in handy, too?

You're good with fire, then?

[ It's an odd tone, a strange sort of hope for that information, but Casey's not been making as much progress as they'd like with air or fire. Especially fire. It's difficult to find a safe space to practice it, especially without anyone else around to help much. ]

An... angel. Huh. Um—yeah, probably would. You mean you can... sense good and bad?

[phoenixstrut]

[You can definitely hear the smile in her voice.] Very.

[In that much, at least, she's very confident. She is the only daughter of the best fire wielding angels the High have to offer.

It also doesn't hurt to have the genes of the archangel.

As for her extra senses, it's a little more difficult to explain.]

...Sort of? For all immediate purposes... I suppose so. It's not exact though, because there are very few beings in the world that are 'all bad' and 'all good'.

Can definitely get a pretty good first impression though.

I'm... learning fire myself. It's so dangerous, I don't really have anyplace to practice.

[ It sounds like an oddly difficult confession for Casey. This isn't normal but they have to remember most people don't know what should be "normal" here. ]

That sounds really useful. If you're willing to help, I'd be stupid to say no.

Really? [There's a bit of excitement in her voice now.] I wouldn't mind sharing practice space or having some company sometime, [she offers eagerly. It's been a while since she's had someone to teach.] Are you learning to fly, too? [He had said something about not being able to carry himself yet...]

Great! Are you planning to meet up anywhere? I know I'm not the only one who can fly, and since you're calling out over the radio, I can only assume there are going to be a few of us...

[A pause.]

What are you trying to find out from them?

[dragonaught]

Um... I'm learning to—use air. Flying is theoretically possible, but I'm not at that level yet. [ Which is kind of embarrassing but if she's avian-ish, she can probably help. Maybe. Learning from other dragonaughts without wings seems like the best bet but there's only so much available here. ] That would be really cool, though.

Yeah, I was thinking of putting everyone into contact once I got the full response. As for what, I just want to know if they're capable of communication first and then go from there. It's no use planning too far ahead.

It wouldn't be a problem at all! [she insists.]

Let me know once you've got everyone lined up. [She understands not trying to think too far ahead, but figuring out the why behind it all makes her curious.] I'll be there if you need me.
