[ Here's a face you haven't seen on the consoles in a while, Keeliai. In fact, it's been about 15 months, and he's looking (if you can see him) plain gobsmacked. ]

Uh. Please tell me someone's been messing with the date feature on the consoles.

[ And then under his breath: ]

[It was rare for Midii to look so youthfully wide-eyed with a mixture of surprise and happiness...but, then, Jack had always been one of the few in Keelai to elicit such feelings from her. And his sudden reappearance was no exception.]

You're back!

[He looked exactly the same. Of course. So did she, with the subtle indicators of ongoing maturity in her face and features. Without taking into account his added 300+ years...she was close to his age now.]

...why would you be in trouble?

Proooobably because I just skipped out on the last 15 months?

[ Then he does a double take at her appearance. ]

Whoa.

[Well, that's not your fault, she'd nearly replied, until she was taken aback by his double take. And looked to him in mild confusion.]

What?

No I-- you look really different. Not in a bad way! Just--

[ You grew up. ]

[At least she could still see him? Ironically, better and clearer than she ever had or would have been able to as a young child.]

...oh.

[Midii didn't blush, but there was clearly a flash of sheepish embarrassment when his words properly sunk in, and she realized what he meant. Self-consciously, she reached up to tuck a messy strand of hair behind her ear.]

I guess...it's been a while since you left. I hadn't really thought about it.

[ Given how that relationship of belief had started, that was better than he could have hoped for. ]

It doesn't feel like a while, for me. It feels like no time at all passed. So all of a sudden the date's different, people are different... it's weird.

I'm not sure I could imagine what that's like. Even when we came back from Dreaming...more time than we thought had passed, yes, but we knew that some of it had. We just lost track of how long.

Are you...alright?

[Aside from the obvious and understandable bewilderment.]

I think so? I don't feel any different.

[After hardly any pause at all, Midii just shrugged. Never one to shy away from when she didn't know something.]

I've never disappeared and come back again, so I'm not really the person to ask.

This was a first for me too. [ a grin ] Can't say I recommend it!

And I can't say I'm very eager to try it for myself.

[Going back to eleven? Forgetting all her memories of Keelai? No, thank you.]

Have you been able to find some other familiar faces, at least? Oh--wait, you used to live in the Welcome Center, right? It's still there, you know. That hasn't changed.

[In her experience, reminders of familiarity were the best comfort to offer towards someone in his situation.]

I'm glad it is. It should be here to help people as long as there are still Foreigners arriving.

Which there are.

Actually, there were a lot of new people recently. I'm not sure how many since you left, but there were faces that I had never met before. It reminded me a little of when I was younger.
