Some training retreat, first I get shanghaied climbing a mountain…now this? [Technology, oh why technology!?] This is…not normal…you have to be a magician to work one of these things…

[As the video cuts on a youngish girl, perhaps in her mid teens can be seen fiddling around with the computer almost as if it were some kind of death trap, or worse…in this case technology does seem to be worse than a death trap.

After several moments devoted to playing with the camera, a camera intent on catching her in various odd angles…most of them are probably not very flattering given the faces she’s currently pulling…she surrenders. It'll be what it'll be apparently.

Judging by her attire, which consists of a basic karate uniform and a black belt, she must be some kind of martial artist…either that or a vagrant.]

Gah…this thing is evil and it must be destroyed…[her blatant irritation is followed by a huff]…where’s Ami-chan when you need her, this is supposed to be her area of expertise. Oh well, at least it’s on and that should count for something.

[Yes turning the computer on is a personal triumph. You must learn to see the positive in the negative.]

I hope I’ve got this set up right otherwise I’m going to look awfully stupid just talking to myself…well…if I am talking to myself no one else would know so that’s a moot point…[oh right…she’s on the air…or whatever. She’ll just straighten herself up abruptly]…konnichiwa! I guess an introduction is proper social conduct, huh? My name is Kino Makoto, but you can call me Mako-chan, or just Mako…I’m not all that picky.

So, I guess I'll get to the point…[she’ll go ahead and scratch the back of her head nervously]…well I know that several things were explained to me when I got here, though I’m still not sure exactly how I got here. I’m trying to digest it all…ah…I guess what I’m asking is for is any more information, whatever you got, or if you just want to say "hi," I’m fine with that too! I’m actually trying to keep myself grounded until I can get my bearings straight…

[Zatanna sort of sympathizes with the older girl when she notices her struggling a bit with her console. There were one or two friends she had in high school who could never seen to figure out their smart phones, either.]

Actually, I'm pretty sure these things were never part of magic training school. Unless I just happened to skip that day.

[A grin, to show that she was teasing (mostly), and she leaned forward in her seat.]

Though I don't suggest destroying it. Takes forever to grow a new one.

I don't think they teach magic at Juuban Municipal or how to use these things either. The most complicated piece of equipment I own is a wrist watch...so it's all magic to me.

[Of course it's a special watch, more like a wrist communicator...it doesn't work here, she's tried. No one has to know that though so she'll laugh off her inability to operate anything more complicated than kitchen appliances.]

They grow these things? [She looks skeptical at that, of course she's simultaneously trying to imagine it.] Well...it's not like any daisy I've ever seen...

[Oh look a new turtle abductee who isn't some other version of him or a successor of some kind. He can completely deal with that right now.]

I'm not exactly sure how they bring us here either, but I'm chalking it up to magic. Though I don't know of anyone knows for sure.

[He does, however, have a few ideas for how to check if technology is involved, but he'll save that for another time. And for someone way more skilled than he is to test them.]

So, Mako, right? Did they already tell you about the rationing?

[Not to mention their current predicament, but he sees absolutely zero reason to just spring that one some new arrival all at once. He's also not in too big a rush to risk completely mangling her full name, so he's going to be avoiding that as long as possible. Or at least until things on the turtle get less stressful.]

[But she is a part-time magical girl super hero with a not-so-secret-identity...fortunately the people on her world fail to make the connection for some reason. Shhhhhhh.]

It's just really strange, I was hiking up a mountain and I stopped to take a break...it was only a second [okay maybe one second is a bit of an exaggeration] and the next thing I know... Maybe I did fall asleep and this is some kind of strange "down the rabbit hole" dream?

[This wouldn't be the first time her life has taken her to odd places, but a giant floating turtle is pushing the weird a little too far.]

Yeah, you can call me Mako. [She's not used to people calling her by her full name and formalities aren't that important to her.

That aside, the rationing immediately grabs her attention...though she won't panic just yet, maybe it's not the kind of rationing she's thinking of.] Um...no, I don't think they mentioned that, or maybe I just didn't hear it.

[Judging by the look on her face she could freak out, play her carefully Peter.]

[Carefully? Play? Like Peter's capable of any of this.]

Well, the giant turtle's been sick, for lack of a better word. So growing things has been a little harder than usual. They had to start rationing.

It hasn't exactly made us popular with the locals, so they may be a bit more...[jerk-ish, hostile, selfish, unreasonable]...grumpier than usual. So, if any of them get short with you, this is definitely a case of "it's not you, it's them."

If you need a little more food, you could volunteer at the hydroponics garden. Everyone who does gets a small share of what we grow once it's ready to harvest, kind of like a bonus.

[You've done it now. Though it can't really be seen on the outside, on the inside this is what's going on. Just give her a second to reboot.]

It's official. This's a nightmare.

[It's not that she's a glutton or anything, food is just a way of life. Without food she can't cook, if she can't cook then the world has reached it's end.]

Wait wait wait...so the locals are irritated by the fact that we're here when it's the forces on their world that brought us here in the first place, right? [She won't claim to be the most intelligent person she knows, but even to Makoto that doesn't make any sense]...Well don't worry, if any of them get short with me...heh...heh...

[It's probably best not to ask, though for the record she does give her knuckles an ominous crack.

Just watch as she goes from homicidal looking to downright excited at the word "garden."]

Oh, a hydrophonics garden, that's the best news I've heard all day! Where do I sign up!

I would really advise against a confrontation with them unless you don't have a choice. They're stronger than most regular humans, and if you have any sort of special powers, they haven't been working for a while now.

[Which Pete can now safely comment on, because holy crap was there a lot of people announcing it over the network. That said, he doesn't actually know if she has any, but better to get that out of the way just in case.]

As for the garden, you should talk to Dr. Banner. But I could always leave early for my next shift and walk you there, if you want.

[Seriously, mass transit, kedan, get with the times]

Now that you mention it I have noticed a drop in physical strength since I got here. [This is not going to help her with her personal crisis.] Alright, you have my word, I won't do anything to them unless I have no other choice.

[She's not afraid to talk about her physical strength since that was something she was born with and she couldn't hide it.]

Ah, well that would be really great of you if you're sure. The island seems like a big place if the ride is anything to go by and I wouldn't want to put you out...I wouldn't be against meeting half way if it's convienient. Though I guess a good question here would be: where is the hydroponics garden?

[What? No bullet train?]

I'm not sure meeting halfway's such a good idea. You're new, and it's pretty easy to get lost if you aren't careful. And I really doubt I'd feel good about getting a new arrival lost on their first day.

[Because yeah, that's kind of the last thing on his list of things to do today. Meet new person, then get them lost in the city. Not exactly ideal host behavior.]

The hydroponics garden is in the Earth sector, so it's just one district over from where I've been assigned. What sector did the kedan put you in?

[ooc: since I'm not...sure if he can see that she's in one of the tree houses, or if she's in a cafe or something]

We were summoned here. By the Emperor. [That's... one question answered??] How she summoned us exactly is still up in the air.

Doesn't smell as nice, either.

[Ease into the conversation with light-hearted humor. Particularly if what she suspected was true, and this girl either came from the past, or yet another alternate reality. One where technology wasn't quite as mainstream.]

And they're definitely grown. Ask Roy Harper about it some time. I'm sure he'd just love to tell you all about what happened the time he tried to take it apart.

I don't understand why the Emperor would summon us here if there's a shortage in the food supply. Doesn't that seem a little strange?

Nope, last I checked daisies were pretty aromatic.

[She can dig that light-hearted humor especially since it's all about flowers...or machines...or machines smelling like flowers. Flowers and plants are a special interest of hers.]

I'm not sure who Roy Harper is, but I'll be sure to ask him about it. Does something bad happen if you try to take it apart...though I guess if you're not an expert you'd probably break it.

Well I've never been directionally challenged, but that's probably good advice all the same. I can't imagine a floating turtle having a true north...so getting lost isn't out of the realm of possibility.

[And it would just be a horrible terrible thing for Makoto to go and put Peter through all of that.]

They set me up here in the Wood sector...I think the apartment or whatever it's supposed to be is WO-1D. [Yes, they just had to put her on the opposite end of the island. You're a good guy a really good guy.] On the positive side I'm used to living on my own so I'm not completely out of my element, and it's...a tree house!

[ooc: She's just a little bit infatuated with her tree house suit presently, but she'll meet Peter anywhere as long as she can find a landmark.]

Dissolves? Kinda sounds like they're trying to keep something from us...well they probably are keeping stuff from us if all that Emperor's business stuff means something.

[Why else would a computer-like object dissolve?]

That might take a while to get to, then. I'm in Metal. Which is usually the best way of figuring out which way you're headed--it's the only one with such tall buildings. So, if you see them, you can figure out your position relative to it, and go from there.

[He feels weird using that strategy. Places it's not so effective: back home]

I'll try to get there within the hour though. In the meantime, I guess maybe make a list of anything else you want to check out? We'll be crossing most of the city, so chances are it'll be on the way.

[Give her a second, Makoto is just looking out of her window to confirm the whole tall buildings thing, she's back in two shakes.]

That does look like it would be a hike from here. [She looks a little guilty actually.] So don't push yourself or anything, though if you did get tired I could probably carry you.

[Fortunately Tokyo has Tokyo Tower which is like a giant red and white dart sticking out of the ground.]

Heh...well I'll probably want to look at everything, but I'll try to keep myself from getting too distracted. Better to take the confusion as it comes.

It wasn't like that initially, when she first started bringing us here. The turtle's currently, uh, really ill, and so we've been on rations for a couple weeks.

How did it get sick?

We already know they're trying to keep stuff from us. That's one of the worst kept secrets on the Turtle.

Buuut... [She drags the word for emphasis] ...most of us are pretty sure a dissolving computer doesn't have anything to do with anything other than to purposely confuse our local engineers.

I used to work as a courier until the rationing started, I can handle it. Besides, it's not like we're racing there.

[Though he will be leaving now, just so she's got time to look at a few things on the way to the garden if she wants. Though unless the city's uncharacteristically empty, most of the sightseeing will probably have to be done on the way back, because wow is it going to be a serious walk.]

Anyway, I'll get there as soon as I can. Oh! And I'm Peter Parker, by the way. But you can just call me Pete. Probably a good idea if I'm not still a stranger when I knock on your door. In the meantime, there's probably plenty of people willing to answer any other questions you might have, and I'll do my best to take care of whatever they don't get to once I get there. Sound good?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there's a lot going on right now and you didn't pick the best time to show up.

E-eh! But I didn't mean to show up or anything, I just wanted to train!

You think so...there couldn't be a possible secret hidden in the technology that'd help us get home? [Though it would be convenient.] Well, I've never been good with this kind of thing anyway so I probably won't mess with it any more than I have to.
