Because they're kids, not little machines! Because--

Because they'll grow up. Maybe some of them will have good lives and maybe some won't but they'll have to deal with too many rules and make bad decisions and get stuck in situations where there isn't a right choice no matter what they try. So even if it's pointless or it seems silly or weird, kids should be able to believe in things... hope for things, find wonder when they can't explain something, have good dreams... have fun.

Those are the kind of memories they're supposed to keep for the rest of their lives. Maybe it'll get them through rough spots when just being an adult doesn't cut it.
