[ The feed picks up to show our ginger-haired speedster in civilian clothes; this is his first time posting to the network, but he's gotten the gist of it from replying to other people. Behind him, if anything is really visible, people will see a few stray boxes, but otherwise the rest is empty. There are also a few pieces of visible damage courtesy of the recent storm; he had been rather absentminded and forgot to secure parts of his suite beforehand. Oh well, he'd get to fixing that eventually.

For right now, he was just staring at the screen like he was about to huff.

Quite frankly, this blows. ]

Getting this lab of mine together is taking longer than I thought, and it's not so much the equipment. [ Though that was taking a considerable chunk out of his wages from working the Fire Sector herbalist. ]

I don't know what's exactly what here. I have to calculate how things like air pressure might affect my experiments; whatever this place is, I need to make sure the physics are right. Then there's ingredients - all I know what to deal with is the few recipes my boss's trained me in.

Any other scientists out there having these issues?

[ That is what literally every mad scientist she has ever met would say. Including Walter. Yeah, this is not making her less nervous. ]

I see. You don't think you're going to have some difficulty finding test subjects, given the... limited human population here?

[ Mad? No! Just very very curious. And very very unlikely to avoid potentially explosive reactions. ]

Well. I guess if it comes down to it, there's always myself.

[ Though he knows he's not exactly a traditional human and this would probably count as bad science. ]

[ Eyebrow raise. ] I was under the impression that was generally frowned upon by... most scientists.

...admittedly, not many of the ones I've met.

[ He nodded, giving her a small grin. ]

To be honest, it is - but if I didn't do it sometimes, I wouldn't be here right now.

[ A curious headtilt. ] What does that mean?

Oh, uhm - back when I was thirteen, I recreated one of my uncle's experiments. It ended up changing me.

For someone that age, that's... impressive. [ And a little terrifying. ] Changing you how?

[ Well, considering how this conversation had gone with other people before... Here went nothing. ]

I can run. Really fast. Speed of sound fast.

Really. [ She's surprised, but in this place... it's not impossible. Hell, it wouldn't even be that unbelievable at home, with some of the things she's seen. ] What kind of experiment...?

Long story short, I mixed some chemicals together and a bolt of lightning struck. After the. Erm. Explosion... I had these powers. [ He's leaving out the stay in the hospital, of course. ]

What about where you're from? Any special things like that?

[ She laughs a little wryly, ducking her head for a moment. ] People getting powers from experiments? Yeah, it happens where I'm from. Mostly the abilities they get are a lot more... dangerous. Destructive, even.

[ A little grimace. ] I usually end up dealing with that sort of thing when people end up dead because of it.

[ Oh... wow, Wally actually managed a frown at that. ]

Maybe- I should actually hold off on my experiments, now that you bring that up.

[ He sighed. ]

It sounds like we're kind of in the same line of work. Er, at least, when I was back home.

[ She smiles faintly. ] That might be a good idea.

Was that a common problem where you're from, then?

Well, powers are more widespread back home. Haha, I'm guessing they don't have aliens where you're from?

[ Wally shook his head a little. ]

Problems are bad enough we have jails set up specifically for people with powers. It doesn't help when some of them have things like diplomatic immunity, though.

[ Olivia presses her lips together for a moment. Walter certainly believed in aliens, but as for the rest of them... ] No, no aliens as far as I know.

I think, given time, things might have ended up that way in my world. Things were... spiraling out of control, which was more or less what my team was meant to stop. [ A pause, and a faint smile as she shrugs. ] I don't know how well we were doing, honestly, but we tried.

[ Huh. No aliens. That must be a... very different world. Then again, people say magic exists where he's from and he still seemingly refuses to believe in that. ]

I hope- [ Er, catching himself, because he has no clue how things with time are being affected back home. ]

Things'll get better, as long as people are trying to make it that way. [ Up-beat talks weren't exactly his strong suit. ]

That's the hope.

If you do end up doing your experiments here... eventually... I'd like to hear how it goes, if you don't mind telling me. And maybe a heads-up, just in case something unexpected happens...
