He's from a highly political world, a medieval era plunged into a technocratic galaxy, where loyalties are bewilderingly complex. If anything, this sort of veiled lack-of-trust is normal to him. He hasn't done anything to earn her faith yet and he knows it. That will, hopefully, come later.
