[Console; Video] Fresh Meat

[The video opens on a somewhat charming smile. The man in it seems very sure of himself, and utterly unrattled by his new situation.]

Hey. Captain Jack Harkness here, and I've got to say it's a pretty nice turtle you've got. She's not exactly where I was trying to get, but seeing as this place seems short on the killer reality tv shows...pretty minor quibble.

I've already met a few of the locals - thanks again guys, and sorry about those vegetables - but I'm always open to meet more people. Local, not-so-local, I don't really mind either way since it looks like I'll have some free time.

Other than company, all I'm in the market for right now's a job and maybe some tools, if someone's willing to lend them - I have a piece of tech that got broken in transit somehow, and I'd really rather get it back in one piece.

[He raises his left arm to show off a leather cuff with what appears to be a communicator inside. It's been fried.]

I'm sure we can work something out in exchange, I've been told I'm pretty good with my hands.

[He laughs a little, at his joke, and there's a moment of dead air after it. Just when the pause starts to get uncomfortably long he makes a show of clearing his throat.]

And oh, Doctor, Rose? [His smile tightens, just barely. Appears just a bit forced.] If you're out there, looks like I'm alive after all. Which I'm kind of hoping you two didn't know, because seriously? There are much nicer ways to let a guy down.

[Alas, Jack, Klaus is always serious. It's a curse.]

Of course - I would be happy to show you where all the hotel's facilities are. They are open to use for all guests, save the kitchens which are only open at certain hours so that the staff can work in peace.

As for precautions, I don't think anything too drastic is necessary. If you decide to go wandering off the beaten path, don't do so alone or at least be sure to arm yourself. For the most part, however, Keeliai is a fairly safe city.

[Ooh, tough crowd. That's okay, Jack doesn't mind.]

I'll keep that in mind, never really learned to cook anyway so I'll make sure I stay out of there hair, even if I'm winding up in yours a little.

That makes sense. I'll probably try to hunt something down just in case, I feel a little naked without one, and not even in the fun way.

[Jack, tone it down.]

Likewise, my own forays into the kitchen have, more often than not, been at least mildly disastrous.

For weapons you may wish to try the metal sector; they have a rather decent selection if you don't mind more traditional armaments.

My condolences - but that's what restaurants and friends who can cook are for, right?

[He flashes another smile.]

With the weapons... That depends on how traditional we're talking. I enjoy a good sword as much as the next guy but when it comes to a fight I really prefer guns. Though I did manage okay in a duel once - that was really surprising, and kind of a one off. No formal training, and I'd rather not try my luck.

[Jack uses SMILE. It's super effective! Klaus winds up rubbing awkwardly at the back of his neck, a little bit bedazzled]

Stark Industries may be able to outfit you with a firearm, but I'm afraid they aren't particularly common. Fortunately, there is a dojo, and the instructors there could help bring you up to snuff on the more old-fashioned weapons if such things interest you.

[And that was what Jack liked to see. It was a much-needed lift to his spirits just then, as much as Marinette had been poking at his sore spots. He winks, just a little, to let him know he saw that.]

Well, I'll talk to them. Depending on what you've got here by way of tech I might even be able to finagle something together myself. I'll keep the dojos in mind though, I'm pretty far from averse to getting physical now and then.

[Good lord, it's like if Zapp were actually charming. Klaus had no defenses for that. Even though he's red in the face, he presses on.]

Bakura is the one to talk to about the dojo. The tools at the hotel are, of course, complementary for guests - though as I said, they're a bit rudimentary.

Have you any other pressing questions? I've been here about two years now - I'm fairly well acquainted with the lay of the land so I'm confident I can provide answers or at least point you to those who may be better suited.

[Well wasn't that cute? Looked like if he wasn't careful the guy was going to wind up matching his hair.]

Bakura. I'll try to remember that name, I've gotten a lot thrown at me today. [He's mostly joking, he's never really had any trouble with names.]

Questions? Hm. [Jack brings a hand up to his chin for a moment, gaze turning upwards as he tries to look pensive. A moment later he's rolled his eyes back down to meet Klaus's though.] Well. If you've been here that long, maybe you can show me your favorite restaurant some time. When you're free of course - my treat for you being so helpful.

[Jack had never been that good at careful.]

It is quite a lot to take in, I agree.

[He takes this completely, and utterly professionally.]

And I'd be happy to show you the restaurants - there's quite a few fine establishments around the city.

If it isn't prying - I take it you were with someone else? A Doctor Rose? If you describe them, I can keep an eye out should they arrive.

That's great. [Jack's smile is just a little shark-like.] I'm pretty easy to please, food-wise - but we should probably get through the first date before we plan too many more.

[He doesn't wink this time, but there's a good deal of humor in his expression that's only softened some by his next question.]

Well, they both look human. The Doctor's tall - crew cut, leather jacket, and light blue eyes to die for. Rose is gorgeous, blonde, and wears just a little too much eye shadow - not that you've got to tell her I said that.

[Klaus has that dazed look, as though someone just conked him on the head. His mouth is moving but it's a moment before actual words come out.]

I - ...er... - not what I meant- [Congrats Jack, he now matches his hair!]

[He clears his throat, trying to get some semblance of composure]

In any case, I'm afraid I haven't run across anyone matching those descriptions- does this doctor have a name by any chance? Or does he just go by the title?

[Coming from Jerusalem's Lot, Klaus could safely say he's encountered considerably more peculiar things]

[Oh, now wasn't that cute? Jack is extremely proud of himself - but not a cruel person. Not that he isn't still smiling.]

Relax, big guy, I'm not gonna make you bring me flowers unless you want to. Say the word, and I'll even stop trying to get you all flustered. Be a shame though.

[Alright, maybe he was a cruel person. He shrugs, as he moves onto the next round of questions.]

Just 'The Doctor'. You'll know him if you see him, he'll probably be up to his ears in trouble - the man's a magnet. Rose's last name is Tyler, just to try to avoid any kind of mistaken identities if there's an influx of attractive blondes named Rose.

[He breathes a sigh of relief]

My apologies - I'm not very good with these sorts of engagements.

[Understatement much?]

In any case, I believe I can list about six people here up to their ears in trouble at any given time, so I'm certain you'll be right at home.

I'm going to take it by that you mean flirting and not video-calls. You ever want some practice, let me know.

[It's a friendly invitation - only bordering on very friendly.]

Oh, great. Here I was, hoping for a vacation. You know, used to be I could have some lunch without finding out someone was plotting to blow up the planet to get a ride home. Kinda miss those days.

[He doesn't really. They were worth it.]

Ah - that is a feeling I know well. You have my sympathy there. Fortunately such occurrences are only weekly instead of daily.

Things here are certainly less explosive than they were back home, but the city has more than its share of excitement.

Though it's been nearly two years, and the novelty of living on the back og a giant, living turtle has yet to wear off.

[He chuckles, but it's fond.]

So I'm not the only one who thinks that's awesome? Good to know. I bet you if the Doctor does turn up here, you'll find him either gushing about it, or, if he's in a mood, complaining about everyone living on her. [He shakes his head.]

You live in some kind of a war zone before you got here?

No, you're certainly not. And there are currently ten hatchlings roaming the waters.

[No he's not internally gushing over giant baby turtles who said that]

I'm not from a warzone per se, as there is a standing peace between the Beyond and Earth, detailed in the Chrysler-Galadonna Accord. However, the of two worlds was a shock for both sides and, as one can assume, conflicts do arise in such circumstances.

[Had he heard about that? He wasn't sure, but the idea of it now makes him light up a little more.] Have they ever come back?

Yeah, I can imagine there. Outright war or not there are always people who aren't that fond of that kind of thing. Sounds like this place must be a pretty well-deserved break for you.

Not in the time span I've been here - though one must account for the fact the great turtles' lifespans are significantly longer than ours so perhaps from their own perceptions they've only been out playing for an afternoon. The did recently make contact with Miss Zatanna and Mr Penny, though the latter seems to have gone back to his world.

Indeed, there are rampant prejudices throughout which frequently exacerbate the problems on hand. I cannot say if the break is deserved or not, but it's certainly welcomed.

On the matter of warzones, if you don't mind my prying, is the 'Captain' a military title?

I'm guessing some kind of telepathy? [It made more sense than anything else he could think of. It was also a lot more interesting than he wanted it to be. He'd decided this was going to be a break from poking the fantastic with sticks. Damn you and your baby turtles, Klaus.] Mom talk to anyone?

[He listens and nods while Klaus talks about his home, and ultimately decided it'd be better not to push for more.] Pretty much everyone deserves a break sometimes. So far? You seem like a pretty decent guy. [He blushed, for fuck's sake.]

It is. Spent a little time with the Royal Air Force. [A very little time, but he's casual and confident as he says it.] I've spent a little time a lot of places though. [And times.]

I would assume as much. I do know Tu Vishan has attempted communication in the past as well, but the factors of great size and age make that far more complicated in practice.

The Royal Airforce? Then if I am to wager a guess, you're from the United Kingdom?

[He never would have actually guessed - that's quite an american accent]

Makes sense to me. That has to be special.

[And that, for real, was where he was going to leave it for now.

He makes something that's almost a buzzer noise.]

Not quite, I was just a...visitor. Things were kind of hectic at the time. The place I'm from? Let's just say it's pretty far off. [That was an understatement. Part of him was hoping Klaus's next guess would be 'America'. He could live with a smile, a lie, and some avoidance of the subject.]
