Well, the Romantic era is predominantly classified as being from 1800 to 1840, though that's an approximation since the inception of the movement was actually in the latter half of the eighteenth century and tied to the French Revolution. The Age itself was succeeded by the Realism, which was in direct opposition to the celebration of imagination, emotion and spontaneity. Sort of an evolution of the scientific Enlightenment.

As for influence... any major thematic age tends to be cyclic, in a sense, but Romanticism itself is still a relevant force behind many creative avenues the world over. Art, literature and cinema - moving pictures, imagine a play or opera done on a screen the way I'm speaking with you now - all continue to be influenced by its major components.
