002 [VIDEO] Anonymous Location

[As Mark's figured out how the computer's work now, he's sitting at a computer at a cafe to keep his secret identity secret... or try to, anyway.]

So, uh, hi. I'm Mark Grayson, and I was wondering if anyone out there was hiring. I've been trying to apply to the Kedan places, and while I'm not getting rocks thrown at me anymore, they aren't in a hurry to hire a foreigner. [Scratches his arm and gives a sort of awkward smile.] Long term victories from the festival, I guess. A nice break from all of the tension... hopefully things won't get that bad again.

Aaanyway, I'm not trained in any specific skill-set, unless you count professional burger flipper from my brief tenure at Burger Mart, but I'm really hard-working and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I'm also pretty good at physical labor. I've... volunteered to help clean up destruction sites before.

...A bunch of destruction sites.

...Cities really wind up being collateral damage for superfights.

...A lot.

[Pauses.]

Also, I was wondering if anyone needed any extra groceries with the rationing back. I don't need all of my weekly allotment, and I don't want it to go to waste. [While he probably does need all of it, he's a kid who wants to make sure everyone's okay before worrying about himself, so what can you do?]

[Have a half-hearted wave from Korra’s free hand that isn’t holding a mug of tea.]

Good luck on that Mark. It's pretty brutal where I'm at too. I must have shown up here after the festival, but if the kedan were any worse than they are now, I'm glad I did.

You were joking about the rocks, right?
alphatar: (Attentive listening)

Not so much as a pinch of luck out there. I’m starting to think I’m just going to have to stick with catching my own food if this keeps up. Nothing like home cooked meals made from scratch. [Some sarcasm here, but Water Tribe food was good. If you’re used to it.]

Wow, they actually did?! That’s terrible! Doesn’t the police force around here do anything at all?

...You did tell the police, right?
alphatar: (Hands behind back)

Wow, you really do sound like you're in a rough spot. [Firebending is a big cheat when it comes to boiling water.] If you want a bowl or two of my latest batch of sea prune stew, you're welcome to it. [Run Mark. Run fast.]

Tense or not, that's unacceptable. [After all, Mark was just a little older than her and seemed like a perfectly normal, decent human being.]
alphatar: (Standing happy to see you)

Tell me about it. I'm going to have to learn to read English sooner or later. [She laughs and waves it off. Any time, sea prunes are everywhere so it's not like I'm going to run out anytime soon.

Yeah, I guess they do. Kind of hard to keep a cool head when starvation is just around the corner. [She's not one to talk about keeping a cool head.]
alphatar: (Hallway offering)

Oh you know, alternate world where where some people can manipulate one element out of Earth, Fire, Air, and Water with some movements. Except the Avatar who can master all four because it's their job to keep balance in the world.

[Coming up with new ways to answer that question was turning out to be her new favorite thing.]

Oh, and I'm the Avatar. So where are you from?
alphatar: (Little surprised)

A lot of people are from Earth but not the same ones. I'm really starting to think my world is the only one without superheroes.

[She blinks a few times looking at him.]

How did you get here? I thought everyone in this place had some kind of power or ability.
alphatar: (Conversation bored convincing)

Science Dog what? [It should count.]

Wow, that's pretty rough. Listen Mark, if you ever need any help I'm usually available. It's my job as the Avatar to help everyone and anyone, powers or not.

It doesn't pay, but it's worth it. [No idea who she's patronizing here.]
alphatar: (Satisfied grin)

About a dog that does science? [Have an obtuse stare.]

Hey, I hope you don't either. I'd rather see you healthy instead having to heal you up from being bruised by stones! [Totally sincere smile.]
alphatar: (Shocked and surprised)

[Yep, the "obtuse" stare has evolved into solid "You just drowned my mind in random nerdspeak".] That is so weird.

And it kind of sounds like what Spider-Man was talking about. Kind of. [Maybe not all of it, but some of it.]
alphatar: (A little cheered up)

I'll have you know the Avatar is simply a part of the cycle that flows on our world and not weird at all. In fact it's awesome. [She's not that serious, except for that last line.]

He was saying he has spider-like powers and stuff. [She has yet to see him in action to verify if any of that is true and he's not just some nut in a suit.]
alphatar: (Conversation weird)

Video | Net café | Anonymous ID Laaaaaaaaate, sorry!

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-05-18 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, so Science Dog is real on your world and the just write books about him? [No Korra, stop.]

Whoa, you've met him? I know he's in the Metal Sector sometimes, but I haven't seen him since I moved in. [That one eyebrow that manages to not get in hair line, but comes damn close.] Do you live in the Metal Sector too?
alphatar: (Pleading nervous)

Video | Net café | We better not be pregnant.

[personal profile] alphatar 2013-05-23 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, sorry. [He seemed so excited about it she half-hoped he was real for him.] Hard to tell what is and isn't after what I've heard about the other foreigners here. [Because being the Avatar is perfectly normal and acceptable in any society Korra.]

I haven't been to that sector yet. Maybe you could give me a tour when I'm finished looking through the Metal? [Why they call it "The Metal" here was beyond her. It sounded silly now that she's said it.Even with Mark's confession of having extra food, he does look like he could use an extra bite.]
alphatar: (Awkward laughter)

Video | Net café | I'm only up to #101 so far. I'm falling behind. D:

Sounds like a charming place. [A sarcastic tone, from her. Naaah.]

Oh, wow. Sorry, I totally forgot to introduce myself. I'm Korra! [Has she really spent this whole time going on without even giving him her name? Mental face palm time.]
