003 ✞ (VIDEO)
[As the feed turns on, the Network is greeted to the sight of a very distraught eleven-year-old. Her eyes brim with unshed tears, though the occasional flash of light against her cheeks reveals twin trails of those already fallen. For her part, she is attempting to remain calm and composed in public...but it's hard. Very hard. Her whole body is tense, and she looks almost afraid.]
It's gone.
Somebody took it.
[Her hand clutched at her chest. Where the chain normally rested. But now, there was nothing. She shouldn't've been surprised. There were thieves around. There were always thieves. Gavroche had already admitted that he took things, though she didn't for a moment think it was him. She'd never told him about the cross.]
[Then again, she'd never told anyone.]
It was very important to me. I have to get it back.
Please.
((ooc: as part of a minor plot involving things being stolen at random by certain Sky Pirates, Midii has suddenly found herself the first victim. She won't know who took it, or why, and the item in question will eventually be returned under the guise of anonymity...but she won't rest until she finds out.))

When's the last time you saw it?
video;
This morning.
The chain's broken, so I've been keeping it in my pocket. I never leave my quarters without it.
video;
[A pause. Then, because she's fully aware of how brusque she can be:] My name is Lin. I'm a police officer. I'll take a look around the neighborhood and see what I can find.
video;
I do.
But I was also in Metal for most of the day.
video;
It's possible it could have just fallen out of your pocket. But there are gangs active in both sectors, several of which have been known to prey on foreigners. I'll tell my contacts to keep an eye out, see if your necklace turns up. What does it look like?
video;
[That much, she was absolutely certain. She made sure to keep it tucked securely at the bottom of her pocket, didn't keep anything else in there, and there had been not one instance during her day that could've explained it falling out on its own.]
It's...a golden cross. Small. [Her hand rose to her chest, where it usually rested on her neck.] It's broken on the bottom. It's been broken since before I came here.
video;
I'll let you know if I see anything like it.
video;
Somebody suggested it...could have been somebody with...powers. [The words come out slow and cautious. Not from fear, but from a continued struggle to accept them as a part of her current reality.] I usually know what's happening around me all the time. I'm used to pickpockets and thieves, and I'm careful.
video;
[Which is just fantastic news. All things considered, the foreigners have been pretty good at staying obvious with their intended chaos. The idea that one or more of them might be preying on their fellow foreigners is as worrying as it is annoying.]
It doesn't rule out the kedan--they're shapeshifters, after all--but it's something to keep in mind.

video;
[This much, she could be certain of.]
...and it's the only explanation I have. I'm careful.
video;
Even people who are careful can be distracted.
video;
[She sounded almost offended by the thought.]
video;
An invisible thief, then. As you said.
video;
[It was a genuine question, and possibly applied to more than just her robber. She kept thinking of Jack. The boy who occasionally stopped by to visit her, wherever she was, with gifts of window frost and ice flowers. Who always had kind words for her over the Network, even thought it was her lack of belief in him that kept him from her sight.]
[She wanted to be able to see him.]
video;
[Which, granted, arresting a spirit is nothing she's ever considered before, and it doesn't sound like something a spirit would actually do. They're not overly concerned with the material, as far as she knows. Still, it's not totally outside the realm of possibility in a place like this.]
If they get around by walking, I'll be able to sense them.
video;
[Well now that you mention it....]
video;
I don't have much experience with them. Not a lot of people do, anymore. And I don't know what a spirit would want with a keepsake like the one you mentioned. But if you're so sure the thief couldn't have been visible--?
video;
I'm just...surprised to hear you talk about them like you've seen one. Or know somebody who has.

video;
You've never heard of it?
