001 - [CONSOLE | VIDEO]
[Sanzo did not look... pleased to say the least. Hair in disarray, dark bruise blooming on one cheekbone, and dirt on his robes suggesting he might of fallen on the way to whatever console he sat at. The heavy breathing and sweat gave anyone viewing a decent guess as to how. More striking was how...on edge he was. Scared even? He was doing his best to hide it if he was, but there was a clear nervousness about him. He glanced back before he said anything, shoulders jumping like someone just out of view had said something.]
That earthquake- whatever you call it- a few minutes ago. Half an hour ago, I don't know. Not long ago.
[It was late evening at the earliest, what light there was outside fading fast. Despite his appearance and heavy breathing, Sanzo's voice was fairly even. Not that he sounded happy.]
I found that child, that something with the wide eyes and the thing with fucking up the power wherever it's at. Several times. It didn't do shit for some eight or nine times.
[He's either avoiding looking at the console or keeping an eye out for something. He looks to either side often.]
I managed to bind the thing. Screamed like hell and- pulled me somewhere, I think it had a hold on me more than the other way around. It was dark, I couldn't move or breathe. It was so fucking dark.
[Another look over his shoulder, gaze sharp, what could be seen of him, tense. His breathing was only barely easing, maybe it wasn't the run alone making it so ragged...]
There were lights still, small and distant. They were all people, I don't know how many. I could see the shapes of people in the lights and I was lit up too. You think you find the weirdest shit here and then- It made some sort of sound, or looked like it was, I haven't heard anything like it and- fuck- I don't know how to explain how that felt. Like it was trying to tear at me, but not physical or mental.
[Alarm flashed across his expression all of the sudden and he glanced down at a string of red beads around his left wrist, the soul gem it held hidden from view of the camera. He wiped a streak of sweat and dirt above the red dot on his forehead, seemingly relieved. Momentarily.]
With these soul gems in mind... Is there anything here that could attack someone's soul directly? Anyone have any idea what that creature was? It held me for seconds at most, it felt like a lot longer. A lot longer.
[Sanzo looked for a moment like he might cut the feed and leave but he suddenly stopped and glanced to the side with a barely audible "He's going to kill me."]

Drake?
[He couldn't understand a word Drake was saying but doubted it was good news.]
no subject
...Genjyo, te avel angle tute-- are you okay?
no subject
Are you okay? You look like shit.
no subject
[Drake so rarely curses, but he wasn't angry, at least. Even without the benefits of Empathy, that was obvious enough. That deep line between his brows was pure worry!]
no subject
[Angry or not, sanzo was still surprised by the cursing. Drake had to be stressed to curse. Incoming guilt. More guilt, anyway.]
no subject
[Drake was very earnest; very concerned!]
no subject
[Damn this man.]
no subject
[Though he'd obviously checked it anyway.]
--I-I'm fine. I felt it too, because... you know.
[Speaking of things best not spoken of in any greater detail on the open air.]
no subject
They haven't gotten here yet. I'm sure they'll be here soon. As for you... Does it still hurt you? The "pain" of it has passed for me.
no subject
[But Drake knew Sanzo, so he squinted at the video feed anyway as though his Empathy worked over the console.]
What-- you already said what happened, but...
[And there were the birds, all trying to land on Sanzo, all at once, though about half of the flock seemed to just verify it was him and then launch off to flap away again. Undoubtedly to report his location to the kestra'chern.]
no subject
But what?
no subject
People aren't rational when they're... distressed. I was going to ask what happened anyway.
no subject
So I'll go with you being not fine.
[As haughty as he tried to sound, there was still concern in Sanzo's voice.]
no subject
[Amberdrake's not taking that laying down, thank you!]
If we meant 'calm and relaxed' as fine, neither of us qualifies.
no subject
Fine. But I'm not about to fall apart, what is wrong with you?
no subject
[God damn it, Sanzo. But then something else occurred to Drake to be worried about.]
You... got away from it, right? It's not wandering around just off camera...
no subject
No, I checked. There's other people here, just, far enough away to not hear me. They'd notice.
[Or they had been cut to pieces- Sanzo shook his head, lost in his own thoughts for a moment, eyes glazed over for that painful few second.]
Look, don't work yourself up over it. I'm just trying to get some information and then I'll head back.
no subject
[Tact, it left around when he got ran over by a spiritual freight-train.]
It's a little late to not work myself up over it. Have you found out anything helpful?
no subject
Other than some potential leads to follow, not really. No one knows what the damn thing is.
no subject
[Amberdrake rubbed his forehead.]
Hells, maybe it's the turtle.
no subject
[Not that Sanzo didn't already have many rude thoughts about being stuck here.]
I'm not poking at the damn kid again but I can see what I can find out from the locals. Maybe they know some shit about what I "saw".
no subject
...Indeed.
[There's a certain charm to the way Sanzo puts things, sometimes.]
How does a turtle have an earthquake, anyway?
no subject
Fuck if I know. I didn't think about it until- [A short pause.] I wasn't thinking much for a while, let's just put it that way.
no subject
[Drake ran a hand over and through part of his hair, stirring bells and strings of beads alike in the motion.]
You're going to make me go grey.
[It was easily the driest joke he'd told in a while. Even if it was only half-joking.]
