[Hi there, Keeliai. Remember this guy? It's been a while.

He's sitting in what looks like a cafe out in the city. For those who don't remember him from his previous stay, he's beautiful, with striking eyes that unfortunately have some pretty dark circles under them. He looks like he hasn't slept well in ages. He's wearing a three-piece suit and cradling a cup of something in his hands--lid on, because his hands shake.

He's... seen better days.

When he speaks, he's got a pronounced Irish accent.]

Right, I... I'm back. Surprise. [He smiles and his face lights up for a moment before the smile slips.]

I don't know how many of the people I knew are left. I know... I know we're missing some. [Studiously going to avoid mentioning Anton, thank you very much.] If you're still around and we were friends, or... talked, maybe drop me a line? And hello to all the newcomers. I know I've spoken with a few of you.

I'm back at the shelter, so. I mean, Brigid and Sonja are doing the real work, the paperwork and all that. I couldn't keep paperwork straight these days if I tried.

[The thought trails off. He looks a bit lost.]

If anyone happens to spot a talking skeleton, let me know, will you? He's got another punch coming if he shows his face again. And... if anyone happens to spot a tall, skinny redhead with an accent like mine, please tell him I'm looking for him.

[ Okay, so it's obvious Sheena's a little excited when the feed comes on--if that huge grin is any indication. So different than the last month or so. ]

Hey! Have you guys been in the Earth Sector lately? They're making clay pots. vases, bowls, stands... Okay, you might want to check everything out. Anyway, you can take one and paint it for free, then have them finish it for you--for a small price.

[ She holds up the vase that she did. ]

I'd say it's worth it! Not only can you be creative, but it helps the kedan out as well.

[ A pause. She's literally buzzing with energy right now. ]

Sooo... I think I'll go make some more. Who wants to join me? Or... I can make one for you if you like! See you later!

[ And the feed ends. ]

OOC:
  • Grey - Yorda
  • Blue - China

[The feed comes on and there is Yorda and China Sorrows. The former looks a bit apprehensive and the latter about as pleasantly inscrutable as ever.]

Hello. There is something important that we have to tell you.

We have seen what the cultists have done to the other kedan. They are able to make stones that contain their lives, and pushed them beyond Death and Dreaming. All doors open both ways and they have crossed into the places we came from.

This is something they have hoped to do, something ordered of them. We have seen this.

[She looks to China, hoping that this is correct. China inclines her head briefly, indulgent, and takes over.]

Suffice to say that while something seems to have gone awry with their experiments, the goal appears to have been moving kedan across planes. While it hasn't been done again, our information implies that those who have gone have not come back, and I doubt they plan to abandon their goal.

I shouldn't have to tell any of you that this is a problem. As much as it goes against my nature to suggest the free trade of information, it may be beneficial to pool knowledge and resources to see if there isn't something to be done about cultists toying with lives and planes as they please.

[Yorda gives a small nod of agreement.]

...For the Kedan whose friends have gone missing... I am sorry this has happened to you.

[ When the feed starts, Sheena doesn't say anything right away, but even though she's looking to the side, it's obvious by what can be seen of her expression that she's very confused.

Finally, she turns to the monitor, then quickly back before slowly dragging her focus again to the monitor. ]

Okay, tremors I can understand. We are on a turtle after all.

But is it me, or is the shell starting to glow?

[ And she turns to the side again before cutting the feed. ]

[ Upon their return from Zirot, the Trojan immediately bring a message file to Charako, who scans it before uploading it to the network as she'd done the original communication. The screen once again shows Turchight, although the scenery behind him is different from the last time; now it shows an odd amount of greenery, especially considering Tavimbian cities are fairly metal and stone, being built inside mountains and all. ]

Foreigners: I have received your questions and as promised, you shall now have my answers.

For why I did not return to my world, it was not -- and remains not, in my knowledge -- possible to do willingly. Does your question imply that such is now under your control?

For where I have been, I was initially smuggled by a sympathetic party away from Tu Vishan, first aboard a ship, then to Siaxhi, then to Tavimbi. I was taken deeper inland, and eventually settled in Zirot.

[ He reaches off-screen, and pulls into view one of the soul lanterns that some of the more tenured Foreigners might recognize as the ones their souls were tethered to. They'd originally hung in the Palace, before being moved to the various Foreigner housings, and ultimately replaced by the soul gems. The latter change, it seems, never made it to Turchight. ]

This contains what other races call my 'soul'. My people have no analogous concept to this, but I do know without it... [ here, he seems pained and sorrowful ] ... that death is imminent.

[ He snorts, bull-like, at the next question. ]

I do not care if you believe I am a Foreigner or not.

It was long suspected by the other Foreigners that came at the same time as I had, that the only way to discover Ma-- the Enemy's weaknesses was to be taken in by him. Indeed, there was more than one Foreigner who fell prey to those dark urges, who turned against the rest of us. When news reached the other lands of his apparent defeat, and how all the Foreigners vanished, you must understand how it must have appeared.

I have not decided yet, whether I think it is wise to meet. Returning to Tu Vishan in the state that he is in, I fear for my... 'soul', or at least, its continued security.

I would like to know how you all resisted the Enemy's influence with no apparent ill effects. Eshai drew my group from as many worlds as she had to find all of you, and we had a wide variety of strengths and resistances. How is it that you all managed to be immune, against such odds? Or does the Enemy yet live, just buried deep within one or many of you?

The other lands have not turned a blind eye to Tu Vishan. News of the Chihuelan incursions onto the turtle have reached all corners of Konryu. You have both allies, and more enemies, that you have yet to meet.

[ The sorrow from earlier returns more fully. ]

My brood-sister Jehskel was lost some decades ago, when her lantern was accidentally destroyed. My mate Kethgha is heavy with egg, and that is another reason why I am not ready to meet you at this time.

My experiences... your question is too broad. Regardless, from what I have been told, the city and its people are vastly different than they were when I was on Tu Vishan. What do you expect my experiences to tell you?

[ Having answered all the questions, although some better than others, Turchight seems pensive. ]

Kethgha should lay our egg within a few months... but I fear for the child's life. Without a lantern, will it perish as my brood-sister did? If you can find a way to ensure my child's safety, I will meet with you.

Turchight, out.

Sooooo...

[Fletch is using a console at the Healer's Guild, reclined back in his chair, looking generally thoughtful.]

I've heard from people that there used to be some sort of social gathering with all the Foreigners before the Malicant thing spread and... well, kinda destroyed most of everything. Well...

...Would anyone be interested in helping start that up again? Like, every two weeks have a sort of social night, get local businesses in who are looking to hire, invite the kedan, get everyone sort of mingling... Who knows? It might help. And god knows we all need to socialise a bit more.

[He shifts a bit.]

Now, I don't have much time to organise all this by myself, so I'd like to float the idea to other people, see if I can get some help. Kedan and Foreigner, both would be great, honestly, because then we can arrange stuff for both sides, and, to be honest, if I was just organising it, it would just be pub quizzes.

Oh, we'll also need a place to hold it, so if anyone's got a spare large conference room knocking around, that'd be great.

[He grins.]

So, come on, people. Stop being boring. Let's get out and socialise, eh? What's the harm?

[ When the feed starts, Sheena's relaxed posture and demeanor reveal that doing something like this isn't entirely new for her. Even though she's on a turtle--which is actually "normal" compared to where she's been the past several years. ]

Hello, everyone! My name's Sheena Fujibayashi. I just arrived here in the city a couple of weeks ago and am looking for a job.

[ Time for the info. ]

My experience is kind of varied, but first and foremost, I'm a ninja. But, I also have experience in owning and operating a Tea House, a Noodle Restaurant, and a Dojo.

[ Translation: She has a lot of skills, and can beat up people if needed. ]

If anyone has any questions [ or job offers ], don't hesitate to get in touch with me.

Thanks.

[ Okay. So she may be used to using a network, but she's not too good at selling herself with words. ]

[Yes, it's really arse-o'clock in the morning when this post hits the network. The background of the video is a console cafe out in the city, one of the ones that doesn't close until the wee hours of the morning. Erskine looks gorgeous as usual, although his suit is a bit rumpled and his hair is not quite sitting right, and there are dark circles under his eyes.

Still, he's smiling, with his chin in his hand as he peers at the camera.]

All right, Keeliai. What's the usual way to celebrate a Turtle anniversary? It seems to me I showed up in the Hotel around this time last year, although... the date's a bit fuzzy. I think it's been a year, though.

So how should I celebrate? Do I get gifts? I'm willing to accept silly ties and/or coffee mugs. I don't golf, though. No golfing... things.

[He frowns]

Is golf even a thing, on the Turtle? Football? Cricket?

[When the video feed begins, there is a redhead frowning at the screen.]

As far as planets go, this isn't the worst place I've been to. Though I suppose this hardly counts as a planet.

[The frown deepens, and it's obvious that he is struggling to wrap his head around the fact that he has found himself here on a turtle and it's difficult to grasp.]

However, there are some deep-seated issues in this city that should be addressed. How do you expect to have any sort of progress when this place is so divided? There is strength in unity, which all of you seem to fail to see. Instead of competing with one another for power, wealth, and resources, it would be much more logical for all of you to fall in line. Some who have power and autonomy do not always deserve it, and are too feeble-minded for it. Should they cast their support in favour of those who are fit to lead, there will no longer be chaos.

If you're honest with yourself, you can admit that it's what's best for any society.

[Sanzo did not look... pleased to say the least. Hair in disarray, dark bruise blooming on one cheekbone, and dirt on his robes suggesting he might of fallen on the way to whatever console he sat at. The heavy breathing and sweat gave anyone viewing a decent guess as to how. More striking was how...on edge he was. Scared even? He was doing his best to hide it if he was, but there was a clear nervousness about him. He glanced back before he said anything, shoulders jumping like someone just out of view had said something.]

That earthquake- whatever you call it- a few minutes ago. Half an hour ago, I don't know. Not long ago.

[It was late evening at the earliest, what light there was outside fading fast. Despite his appearance and heavy breathing, Sanzo's voice was fairly even. Not that he sounded happy.]

I found that child, that something with the wide eyes and the thing with fucking up the power wherever it's at. Several times. It didn't do shit for some eight or nine times.

[He's either avoiding looking at the console or keeping an eye out for something. He looks to either side often.]

I managed to bind the thing. Screamed like hell and- pulled me somewhere, I think it had a hold on me more than the other way around. It was dark, I couldn't move or breathe. It was so fucking dark.

[Another look over his shoulder, gaze sharp, what could be seen of him, tense. His breathing was only barely easing, maybe it wasn't the run alone making it so ragged...]

There were lights still, small and distant. They were all people, I don't know how many. I could see the shapes of people in the lights and I was lit up too. You think you find the weirdest shit here and then- It made some sort of sound, or looked like it was, I haven't heard anything like it and- fuck- I don't know how to explain how that felt. Like it was trying to tear at me, but not physical or mental.

[Alarm flashed across his expression all of the sudden and he glanced down at a string of red beads around his left wrist, the soul gem it held hidden from view of the camera. He wiped a streak of sweat and dirt above the red dot on his forehead, seemingly relieved. Momentarily.]

With these soul gems in mind... Is there anything here that could attack someone's soul directly? Anyone have any idea what that creature was? It held me for seconds at most, it felt like a lot longer. A lot longer.

[Sanzo looked for a moment like he might cut the feed and leave but he suddenly stopped and glanced to the side with a barely audible "He's going to kill me."]

[The audio comes on first, accompanied by a quiet curse. Then the video appears on Solomon leaning over his console. He's in his apartment, but he's wrapped in his coat and his breath is misting, and he's very pale, as if he's been in the cold for hours on end without having been properly attired. His eyes don't fix on anything, and the observant will notice old scars around them.]

I know there's a number of mechanically-inclined in the city. Our heating's just broken down.

[He hesitates.]

Earlier this morning, actually.

[It's mid-afternoon.]

I don't care if you're Foreigner or kedan, but I'll give you extra if you come now to fix it, and do so before Raine gets home.

Most of you likely know me, but I know we've seen some new faces recently. I'm Raine Sage; I run the Healers' Guild, in the Water sector.

Some of the recent disappearances have left us somewhat shorthanded, and we're stretched thinner than is optimal. If you have any healing techniques that can be passed down, whether magical or mundane, and you're willing to apply those or teach or, optimally, both, we could use your help.

[A sigh. Her shoulders drop a little.]

Even if you don't, we can teach those willing to learn. Right now, the desire to help is the quality that's most important.

If you have questions, I can answer them here, or simply stop by and ask for myself or Fletch.

[Attached to the broadcast is a location ping indicating where in Water the building is.]

[In the background, Fletch can briefly be seen, yelling.]

Nurses!

[Raine twists to glance at him, then back, bemusement there and gone again so fast as to be almost missed.]

Yes-- for those of you from an Earth, nursing is a highly applicable skillset. Fletch, my second, is a nurse himself.

[Hence the yelling.]

As with the rest of us, he's willing to teach.

[Raine takes a moment to collect her thoughts again.]

--As a side note, I'm still personally interested in the common threads between worlds, and how different magical traditions interact and intersect here. It doesn't matter if you're an expert or not; I want to build a more comprehensive picture, so if you have some time and we haven't spoken much on the topic before, I'm curious.

I've been paying Enjolras to keep the paperwork for the Jade Dojo in order, because frankly I can't be bothered to do it myself. He's left Keeliai now, and I haven't gained any new incentive to take it up.

She's just woken up not too long ago on the back of a giant turtle. There's an adjustment period. ]

I'm not sure if this is the right way to go about it, but I've been informed by our hosts here that we're required to work for our keep and pay for our own needs [ food, must have food, her life has been doled out in quarter-portions for so long ], so I wanted to offer my services to anyone looking for hire.

I'm a mechanic first and foremost; my experience is with engineering and navigation of starships, but I can apply what I know to virtually almost any kind of mode of transportation — speeders, bikes, any kind of propulsion craft. I'm fairly good with my hands and am capable of building entirely with scrap. I have no preference what type of setting or location the work itself might be in; I'm very flexible. Look, no one wants to listen to someone saying "bring me back home or I'll kill someone"---though, I really might kill someone if I don't get to go back home and finish what I was killing---[ that would be Katsuragi-san/Landkarte ] so I'll skip that bit and move on to the important parts. And I've heard time is frozen in our worlds or something while we're here but that's besides the point. You don't need to tell me about it, anyway. I won't listen, anyway, because hearing the same things over and over again is soooo boooring.

[Because if there's one thing he's learned, it's that there's always a little more to the story. Steve looks down at something, that little crease forming in his forehead.]

Someone once gave me some advice about starting over. I'm not sure this is what she meant by that, but I'll do my best while I'm here. So I'll be happy to talk to anyone who needs help. If anyone else has suggestions on how to stay busy here, I'll listen to those too.
