[ Marinette is no stranger to electronics-- a few clicks here, a few clicks there and... she pretty much has the hang of it. At least the jist of what she needs in order to use the console.

Oh... eheheh. Hi, I'm Marinette.

[ She waves awkwardly at the screen. ]

I'm still trying to put everything together but... I think I understand the basics. Since this is my first time out on my own, I thought maybe I should get some help. Where do people live here? [ ... ] And how can I make some money? I'm pretty good with my hands. [ Specifics, Marinette... specifics. ] ...My baking isn't as good as my dad's, but I did learn from a pro. Oh! And I love sewing, so... there's... that...

[ This whole thing has gone pretty smoothly so far. Huh. Great. ]

[Thanks to...whatever it was currently going on in Keelai, Marienette would be greeted with a much younger face than usual.]

What kinds of things do you bake?

[...aww, what a sweet looking girl.]

A lot of different things-- croissants, breads, muffins, cakes, cookies...

[Marinette ticks them off on her fingers as she goes.]

My dad runs a bakery, so I've gotten my hands on a little of everything.

[She gets that a lot. Moreso the last few days, for some reason.]

Oh. Wow.

You mean...you get to have those things whenever you want? Just like that?

Well... yeah. Although even I don't get to touch the really fancy custom-made stuff. We almost always have some left over at the end of the day. They're always making extra. My parents just love feeding people. I can barely fight them off when I have friends over.

[It's a struggle, when you just want to play video games with the boy you like.]

[Her jaw dropped. Even more impressed by that then the thought of being able to bake in the first place.]

You must be rich.

Oh no-- well, I mean, we're pretty well to do I guess, but rich...? Nooo.

[Well that settles it.]

You know... I could probably use a little warm up. How about it? Why don't you let me make something for you? On the house, of course.

[She seemed rich. Based on her six years of experience, anybody who had access to food so easily, without having to work extra or beg for it, was definitely rich.]

[But then the surprise offering of food caught her off-guard. Free food.]

Really? [Her stomach chose that moment to let out a low growl. She hadn't eaten since...actually, she couldn't remember. Which was strange, even for her. Like her brain was acting all fuzzy.] You mean it?

Of course! Every baker needs a good taste-tester, right?

[And there was no way she could say no to that face.]

So... if you could pick anything in the whole world, what would you like to eat right now?

[Saying 'in the whole world' was probably stretching her ability a little bit but-- this was a little girl she was talking to. It couldn't be anything too crazy, right?]

[In the whole wide world. Maybe...maybe even in all the Space Colonies, not that she'd ever had the chance to travel up there...]

There was this cookie Papa got for us once. It was the twins' birthday, and the lady down the street was extra nice and gave him a whole bag. I think they were called...Maca-roonies?

Do you know how to make Maca-roonies?

[Maca... oh!]

Macaroons? Well, the French have a slightly different way of making them-- were they colorful? Or more of a traditional cookie color?

We are French; I've lived in Southern France since I was born.

And I only had them the one time, so I don't remember what color they were. We ate them all too fast, and it was dark when Papa got home.

Oh, well then!

[Chances are, she has the right type of cookie in mind.]

Those are actually the type of cookies I took to share with my classmates on my first day of school this year. I'd be happy to make you some.

That would be...so cool.

You're the nicest girl I ever met.

[It took so little. But, to be fair, there also wasn't that much competition in her life. She was perpetually surrounded by boys. Little boys. Three younger brothers, only one of whom was too young too talk back to her whenever she was In Charge.]

[That certainly gets Marinette going.]

No. Well... nooooo. I'm just your normal, everyday girl. I just... sometimes like doing nice things.

[She just likes to think she was raised right for the most part.]

I'll see if my friend can't help me find the ingredients today so I can get them to you soon.

Okay.

[She bit back the urge to ask how soon 'soon' would be. She, too, was raised right for the most part.]

Who's your friend?

[Marinette is bad at being subtle-- particularly about this one thing-- so his name comes out in a tone that romanticizes it a little.]

Adrien.

[But she pulls herself together enough to explain.]

He's in my class at school. He said he'd show me around, so I'm sure he can tell me where to get everything.

[Even at six, Midii was acutely observant. Though it didn't take much to pick up on Marinette's tone.]

You like him. [She giggled. Finding the whole thing more funny than anything.] The older girls down the street from my house talk just like you do when they talk about boys they like.

Noooo-- [Who is she even kidding? Manon had seen through her just as easily... kids were really more observant than people gave them credit for.] ...yes.

[More giggling. She seems way too proud of herself over this.]

I knew it!

Just... please don't tell him.

[Yeah she's legitimately begging a child for her silence.]

I mean-- I haven't told him yet.

Don't worry. I'm really good at keeping secrets.

[...oh, you have no idea how good.]

[Nonetheless Marinette seems very relieved.]

So where are you staying? I can deliver the cookies later when they're finished.

...staying?

[She asked, as if genuinely confused by the question.]

I don't know. I just woke up here a little bit ago. I'm waiting for whoever brought me here to give up and bring me back to Papa.

[She just-- Oh nooooo that is not alright. At all.]

...you're here all by yourself?

[A nod. But then--she recognized that look. And that tone of voice. She'd heard it way too many other times from other .]

It's okay. I know how to take care of myself.

I even babysit my brothers whenever Papa has to work. He says I'm in charge then.
