You all managed to not destroy the city while I was away. Aside from that magical mishap at the end, that is, but it seems there was little lasting harm.

[Her voice is strong, but pleasant. Valdis is back and ready to take charge again.]

I'll admit that I've been a bit distracted as of late, but I am back and there is a problem I would like to address. The Cultists have had free reign to do as they please and we are lucky that they haven't struck as hard as I believe they are capable of.

[What with having Milyn's knowledge and skills as well as Daseng's, if he was as clever and intelligent as Milyn claimed.]

To counter this problem, I am creating a special task force within the Police Department that will focus solely on the Cultists and their plans.

[This is in no way just a personal vendetta, the cultists are a threat, but she has the power to do it, so she might as well.]

If anyone had any information that may prove useful to the task force, or wishes to join it, please let me know.

Oh yeah, I keep meaning to ask about the whole "police force" thing. Do you guys need any undercover agents or spies or whatever? My skillset's similar to Shay Cormac's. Figure that might be useful in figuring out what's going on around here.

Having people operating in an...'unofficial' capacity could prove helpful. Especially if they are as skilled as Shay.

I'd be more than happy to let you know if I find anything worth notice. There's a little bit of activity with the Snakes, but I haven't been able to get close enough to confirm anything. They're looking for something, but what I don't know yet.

[He pauses, thinking harder about the voice he's hearing.]

Wait...Valdis? You're in on this thing? That's good to know.

I didn't know you were part of the police force or whatever. Shows how much I pay attention, heh.

[Truthfully, he'd been so focused on just getting acclimated to the city and finding his rhythm at the Golden Koi, that he hadn't been paying as close attention to what was going on as he should have been. Particularly since he'd been doing his own investigations when he could.]

Well see, now that makes sense. I mean...I don't know your history or whatever, but you definitely seem like the leader-y type to me. Just based on my first impression of you kicking down the door and all.

[He laughs.]

Seriously though, I will let you know if I find anything. It's pretty tough getting close to the Snakes, when I've got that "Foreigner" stink all over me, but I'm working on it.

See, if you'd have done that when we met, you would've broken my old man hips. Had me at kind of a disadvantage then, seeing as how I was all geriatric and stuff. [he laughs.] That whole mess kind of put us all off our game, I think.

You'll be the first to know, unless I'm pulling stakeout duty with Zatanna again. She's kinda the one who got me roped me into this.

Hmmm....I'll think about it. Lord knows I could use a brush-up on my hand-to-hand. 'Sbeen years since I've done any real hardcore training.

[Half-joking, half-serious. He really does need to work on his hand-to-hand skills. Ezio's fencing knowledge only got him so far.]

I was just making sure that no one was doing things they shouldn't have been, but Zatanna was looking for info on some magical doohickey she's got locked up somewhere. I don't know much about magic, but magical doohickies are usually trouble, so I tagged along.

We'll plan on that. Like...I usually prefer a stealthy approach, but it definitely can't hurt to sharpen my skills.

[If he accidentally got Zatanna in trouble, he'll have to apologize later.]

Oh I know, but in the wrong hands it definitely can be. You should know I've got something of my own, that I keep specifically to keep out of the wrong hands. We get a chance to meet up, I can show it to you.

True. That's why I was trained to fight, and kill when necessary. Not that I like it, but survival and everything. They don't call us "Assassins" for nothing.

Well, it kind of is. It's...a piece of ancient technology from my world. Basically the thing that Adam and Eve used to figure out that "God" was as mortal as they were. The creation myth lost a lot of it's mysticism when I started learning about this stuff, heh.

The God of my world is said to be truly immortal, but I've never met him. He saw fit to leave the Angels in charge of the war against the Demons and, well, that's going well...

[Blame 40 years of aging and some serious attempts at making the world a better place.]

Oh man, I could seriously blow your mind with some of the stuff I've learned. In my world, "God" was just a name given to the advanced humanoid race that preceded humans, with us being bred to be a slave race to make their lives easier. I'm not atheist, but thinking about the Old Testament that way really saps all of the fun out of the creation myth.

[Like the fact that Adam and Eve were the first Assassins.]

Can't say I blame you. It's been used to manipulate and wage war for so long that there doesn't seem much point to it any more.

Hey, now that I'm all official on the Police Force and stuff, is there any chance I could get my equipment upgraded? The blade I have works, but it's ancient, and pretty limited in what it can do. Something non-lethal'd be nice, since we're trying to make nice with the kedan and all.

Thanks. More than anything, the Hidden Blade I have is a bit too conspicuous, if that makes any sense. Pretty sure it's an Italian Rennaissance model, since it's stuck in a big leather bracer. I just need something that I can pull my sleeves over, really.

[Desmond understood why his Hidden Blade was designed the way it was, because leather bracers were in fashion in Ezio's time, so it didn't look out of place with the rest of his ensemble, but it stuck out like a sore thumb on Desmond's forearm, which is why he'd taken to leaving it in his room most of the time, or putting it on before he put on his hoodie, despite how it stretched out the sleeve.]

I'm afraid we don't have anything similar to that at the moment...I can speak with Tony about designing something.

That's fine. Tony's the tech guy, right? I think I remember Pepper mentioning him once or twice. I might have some ideas for him, too.

[He pauses.]

And thanks, by the way. It's nice to have a chance to do some good with all my training. Didn't get to use it much back home before...

I know, and I'm trying. It still just feels surreal to me. One minute I've got my hand stuck to a machine that's gonna save the Earth, but kill me, and the next I'm on the back of a giant turtle, alive. I don't suppose there are any shrinks around here, are there? [He laughs, half-joking, half-serious. He's been keeping himself busy, specifically so he didn't have the time to think about it all.]

But I mean...that's why I've been doing what I've been doing. Trying to keep bad people from doing bad things as much as I can, without being seen. Seems like the right thing to do.

[He was still an Assassin, after all. Even if people knew it, he still worked from the shadows.]
