Radio | Special Task Force

You all managed to not destroy the city while I was away. Aside from that magical mishap at the end, that is, but it seems there was little lasting harm.

[Her voice is strong, but pleasant. Valdis is back and ready to take charge again.]

I'll admit that I've been a bit distracted as of late, but I am back and there is a problem I would like to address. The Cultists have had free reign to do as they please and we are lucky that they haven't struck as hard as I believe they are capable of.

[What with having Milyn's knowledge and skills as well as Daseng's, if he was as clever and intelligent as Milyn claimed.]

To counter this problem, I am creating a special task force within the Police Department that will focus solely on the Cultists and their plans.

[This is in no way just a personal vendetta, the cultists are a threat, but she has the power to do it, so she might as well.]

If anyone had any information that may prove useful to the task force, or wishes to join it, please let me know.

Chief, it is good to hear of you again. I didn't realize you were away, which is a compliment for your forces. Maybe bringing order to the chaos isn't quite the fool's errand I thought it would be.

I have taken an interest in the activities of the cultists ever since I first heard of them. [ No denying that, since he's known for asking around a lot. ]

My forces are coming together well, there is no denying that. I am proud of them.

[Valdis lifts a brow, she'd heard that the boy had taken an interest, but she had been too distracted to pursue it so far. Him coming to her was a welcome change in luck.]

[There was always that possibility that the boy had something she didn't. His motivation wasn't entirely clear, but playing along could get her something valuable.]

I have found a few things here and there, I'm not sure yet how much of that would be considered useful. I have not been able to track down any Cultists, unfortunately. I wished to question them. In my world I'm very familiar with dark powers, and those who wield them.

Are you?

[She's laughing on the inside, but there is no trace of her amusement in her tone.]

Would you be interested in helping me track them down?

[ Yes, of course. But it wouldn't do to sound too eager, after he had shown such reluctance to work for her police force before. ]

Possibly. You police might have shown itself worth my time. But I'm not planning to become an uniformed policeman who takes your orders and stands guard.

[She is truly amused by you, boy.]

Your skills would probably be wasted on guard duty anyway.

[ If only he knew she thinks of him as a "boy." ]

As for your question, yes, I'd be willing to help, within reason. You'll find I'm not that hard to work with, but I have other duties which come first. I'm sure you understand the need to make a living.

[To be fair, most people are very young compared to her.]

I do indeed. Hence the reason I train others at the Dojo in addition to seeing to my Police force.

[Tread carefully, Kylo.]

A bout? I think I could match your strength.

I've found nothing reveals an opponent's nature quite as well as battle... or a friend's, even.

[ Yeah, he's so not impressed with that implication. ]

I would hope we're going to be friends, as we will be working together. I want nothing but to be fully involved. If I share everything I know, so do you.

[She doesn't need to fight someone to find their nature. One's nature is often clear as day if their soul is visible. But not everyone could see souls.]

That would be true for most people, I suppose.

[Oh, you amuse her so much! Were you a comedian in a former life?]

So, you want to know everything, but don't wish to join my task force or follow my orders?

[ He used to consider his father a joke, does that count? ]

If I can trust you to share information freely I will join your task force.

[ His face darkens as he considers the other part of her demand. ]

Experience has taught me to choose my Masters carefully. There is only one on this world whose orders I have chosen to follow. [ And even that not blindly. ]

You speak like a man who is used to being top dog.

[She knows what that is like, except she kind of still is and this time she actually earned it.]

But if you expect me to treat you as an equal, well, you're going to have to prove that you really are.

[Which was highly unlikely.]

I'm not used to being the equal of other men, I'm used to being their better.

[ True enough, except for that one above him... ]

I have to prove my worth to no one but my Master. You don't command the Force such as the Supreme Leader does. [ He narrows his eyes at her. ] Maybe you should be proving your worth to me.

[She hums, thinking that the Dojo might be a bad place to teach this particular lesson]

If I must prove myself, then how about a little spar? Outside the city would be best, I think.

[ Okay, and now he is suspicious. That change of mind came a bit too quickly.

But he's also terribly curious what thousands of years bring about. If curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back the killing doesn't even count, right? ]

It would take more than a spar to prove yourself equal to my Master, and as deserving of my respect as he is, but I wouldn't mind a spar. I'd like to see what your long life has taught you.

[As fun as this was, she had earned the respect of the rest of the Police Force and she couldn't go around ruining that, even if the boy needed a lesson.]

Remember that there are more powers in the Universe than just your Force.

I never denied that. In fact, I've just started studying a power other than the Force. You should be proud of me and my open mind. [ Healing power, but still. It counts. Even if it'll be a long time till he can use it to his advantage in battle. ]

But none of that says that your power is stronger than the Force.

And then he hangs up on her, just to be that jerk. ]

[The moment he hangs up, she bursts into laughter, terribly amused by the entire exchange. Then she's off to the Dojo to borrow some practice blades.]
