You all managed to not destroy the city while I was away. Aside from that magical mishap at the end, that is, but it seems there was little lasting harm.

[Her voice is strong, but pleasant. Valdis is back and ready to take charge again.]

I'll admit that I've been a bit distracted as of late, but I am back and there is a problem I would like to address. The Cultists have had free reign to do as they please and we are lucky that they haven't struck as hard as I believe they are capable of.

[What with having Milyn's knowledge and skills as well as Daseng's, if he was as clever and intelligent as Milyn claimed.]

To counter this problem, I am creating a special task force within the Police Department that will focus solely on the Cultists and their plans.

[This is in no way just a personal vendetta, the cultists are a threat, but she has the power to do it, so she might as well.]

If anyone had any information that may prove useful to the task force, or wishes to join it, please let me know.

What has led you to believe these cultists are such a threat?

It doesn't seem like they've had 'free reign' if no one has even seen them lately.

Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean it isn't there; and just because nothing has happened, doesn't mean nothing will.

We don't know where they are. We don't know their plans.

All we have is a small idea of what they are capable of, but our information is outdated.

I understand the wisdom of preparation, but we mustn't confuse it with paranoia.

I admit my knowledge of the cultists is limited - I haven't been around during any time they posed any problems.

Do you have any leads? I'd like to help, even if it seems I'm being critical.

Even if I could show you the blood and the bodies, or share with you the feelings of fear and death that permeated the ruins Malicant left behind, I would not. Those are things that no one should ever have to see or feel again.

Malicant is not the one who committed those atrocities. He might have ordered them, but it was his followers who carried them out.

[And those followers were now under the control of a man experimenting with soul gems, among other things...]

What ruins? The guarded chambers that Balthier was talking about?

What happened there?

Hundreds of Kedan were sacrificed to some end...I hope to discover exactly what end, but for now, all we have is speculation and guesswork.

Hundreds? How could they do something like that without being detected immediately?

There was a barrier around the Palace, we couldn't get past it. We couldn't stop it. Nor did we know the extent of the atrocities being committed because the Head of Police at the time wouldn't tell us anything.

They were a cultist, or they were being controlled by Malicant?

No. He was simply...misled, not through anyone's fault.

These stories are too complicated to be able to puzzle together in any coherent matter from fragmented conversations.

That is to say... I'll defer to you. I have not been here long enough to have a good grasp of this place, or its dangers.

I'd like to help any way I can, however.
