You all managed to not destroy the city while I was away. Aside from that magical mishap at the end, that is, but it seems there was little lasting harm.

[Her voice is strong, but pleasant. Valdis is back and ready to take charge again.]

I'll admit that I've been a bit distracted as of late, but I am back and there is a problem I would like to address. The Cultists have had free reign to do as they please and we are lucky that they haven't struck as hard as I believe they are capable of.

[What with having Milyn's knowledge and skills as well as Daseng's, if he was as clever and intelligent as Milyn claimed.]

To counter this problem, I am creating a special task force within the Police Department that will focus solely on the Cultists and their plans.

[This is in no way just a personal vendetta, the cultists are a threat, but she has the power to do it, so she might as well.]

If anyone had any information that may prove useful to the task force, or wishes to join it, please let me know.

[ Rey listens interestedly to the message, as Valdis speaks; after her brief experience dabbling in some less-than-reputable Cultists' products, she's returned to her normal self (somewhat) and determined not to fall back into that pattern. ]

I may have some information that might prove useful, [ she speaks up into the audio feed, ] but it also involves Kylo Ren. Has he spoken to you of his findings, in the underground bunker beneath the Palace Gardens?

[For as much time as she spent in the gardens, Valdis had no idea. Though now that she thought on it, it made sense.]

What did you find?

[ She isn't completely certain she trusts Valdis, or anyone on the police force for that matter - so she backtracks a bit. ]

Ren didn't tell you anything?

[Valdis is dumbfounded. The girl was 'not sure if she should say'? The ridiculousness of that statement might have made her laugh if it weren't for the fact that there was a lead she potentially might lose. In addition, it seemed she needed to check herself. This wasn't about power, it was about the city; her conversation with Kylo was apparently getting to her more than she thought.]

He and I seem to be disagreeing on who is running this task force and the Police Department...May I ask why you aren't certain you should say?

[ ...oh. well, now she's caught in her obvious backtracking, and Rey stalls for a few moments more while she decides how she's going to answer this. ]

I would have thought that he'd say something about it, first, before I did.

[ the fact that he hasn't makes her wonder if she shouldn't have said anything, at all. ]

[That still didn't make sense, weren't those two the ones who had messed up the lobby of the Hotel?]

If you don't wish to tell, you don't have to.

[Valdis is quite sincere in this, secrets, even potentially harmful ones, couldn't be forced out of someone.]

It was his discovery, before mine. We unearthed what was inside it together, but he'd known about the pathway leading down to it before I had.

I just don't know how much of it he'd planned to share, with others, even the police force.

[ and Ren is no ally of hers, but he's shown himself to be at least rational lately where she's concerned in Keeliai, and that counts for something.

plus, she's still curious enough herself about what they'd found, that she finds herself wondering now if it's possible to go back. ]

Do you think keeping it secret would be better?

[Mistrusting authority wasn't an uncommon thing and Valdis sensed that pushing it would only make the girl less likely to tell. She sighs]

If you decide to investigate on your own, please be careful. I don't need anyone else being hurt.

[The cultists were not their friends and even Valdis wasn't so prideful as to think that she wouldn't be affected by anything they did.]

They do not wish us, or the new government, well.

[ she has no intention of informing anyone - even Ren - of her thoughts of going back to check on the bunker. Valdis makes a good point about the benefits or risks of keeping such a find secret, but for now Rey hones in on the mention of the Cultists. ]

What is it that they want? Total and complete control of Keeliai? Of the turtle?

Malicant, the demon we defeated almost three years ago, sought to ruin this world, but...he also sought to unlock pathways to our home worlds so he could devour them as well.

[Malicant had been powerful, but she didn't know how close he had been to actually succeeding in his goal.]

If what I have heard is true, the Cultists have found a way to travel to our worlds using soul gems, but so far they have not found a way back.

As to their immediate goal? I am uncertain, but it won't be good for us or for Keeliai.

[ Rey listens to her description of the Cultists' aims, wondering absently if they've managed to find her own universe, the few worlds she'd visited. Chances are if they've encountered the First Order, they'd have as difficult a time as the Resistance. ]

Not likely, [ she agrees, and pauses before what she says next. ] Ren and I found an underground bunker buried deep beneath the gardens, containing various handwritten notes in Kedanese, and several vials of what look to be human or humanoid blood.

[Valdis pauses, genuinely concerned by the information.]

Vials of blood?

[Milyn had taken blood from them, had she given it to the cultists?]

They looked as though they were specimens that had been taken from people who lived here. I don't know what was written on them, or the paperwork surrounding it, because it was in Kedanese, but...

[ the concern that Valdis shows is enough to encourage her to continue. ] Could they have been experimenting on the residents of Keeliai?

[Valdis shook her head, hiding the growing unease she felt.]

It is possible that they are experimenting on blood acquired from us...

What would they do, with such samples? Testing them?

For what?

We know that they experimented with our soul gems, but...

[Milyn had been part of that. The woman had also been the one to draw blood from them. But surely the blood would have gone bad by now.]

Whatever it is, it can't be good.

[ The thought that any testing is being done on any of them doesn't sit well with her. ]

In the meantime, perhaps any routine blood being taken from people should be catalogued more carefully. There might be someone passing these samples along to Cultist members.

Yeah....I'll look into it.

[Except she's pretty sure she knows who it is...]
