[Today, Zatanna greets the Network with an unusually contemplative expression. Curious.]

Those of you who know me know that I tend to be way bigger on the magic than science stuff. Which is why...for those of you on the other side, I have a question. Mmm--no, not really a question, I guess. More like a...request? Kind of?

Basically, I was wondering how much anybody could tell me on electromagnetic energy or radiation or whatever you call it. Anything at all, but preferably if you've ever had any experience with it on a more...supernatural scale.

[So, really, she's not going completely to the ~~Dark~~ Science side just yet.]

I can't say much about the science thing. [Will smiles with private amusement. And curiosity. He'd never really met anyone with magic outside of his own kind and the enemies they had fought.]

I'm more on the magic side of things, myself. But I remember that when I first came into my magic the radio and television went all strange when I was near. Sunspots, I thought back then.

[She leaned in a little closer to the screen, even placing a chin in her hand as she sent the kid(?)--at least, he looked like a kid to her--an amused smile. Genuinely interested, even if it might not answer her original question.]

Yeah?

Was that whenever you tried casting a spell, or was it just your charming presence that set them off?

[He simply looks at her solemnly.]

That was before I knew any spells. Once I learned, it stopped happening.

[A sympathetic wince made it out. She couldn't speak for his experiences, of course, but she could wager a guess based on her own:]

Tough time controlling it?

[He shakes his head. ]

I didn't know what it was at the time.

I'm not sure I would have, either. If I'd grown up without being taught about magic, and had that happen to me out of the blue one day...

It must've been pretty scary.

It was fine. I didn't even know that I was the one causing it.

[He hadn't known, not until he'd woken the next morning to a moment frozen in time, and stepped out of his house into a time five hundred years before he had been born. ]

Honestly I haven't even thought about it in years. Your question just made me think of it today.

[...yeah, that still sounds pretty scary to her. But if he insisted he was fine, she wouldn't push.]

Well, I'm glad you did.

I didn't even think of the possibility of someone's ability being electromagnetic or radiation-related. Though, in hindsight, I really should've.

I wonder as well. I hadn't ever really given much thought to what it was.

[He laughs at himself.]

Let alone others with magic who are not of my kind.

What do you call your kind? If you don't mind my asking.

[She was purely curious; and, as a gesture of her honest intentions, even offered:]

Back home, my kind are known as homo magi. We're human, but we have a strong power in our blood that allows us to perform real magic. In my case, I got it from both my parents...and our family's style is also unique to our bloodline.

Over the years we have been called wizards and druids and many other things besides. But we call ourselves the Old Ones.

[Will looks very curious at this information. ]

Goodness, how very interesting. In my home, except for a few exceptions humans cannot use magic at all. In fact, almost all of them believe that there is no magic in the world and that stories of magical creatures are nothing more than half-forgotten stories to tell children.

You don't look Old.

[Then again, she knew better than to assume someone's age by their appearance alone.]

That's kind of what it's like for us. I mean, the part about not many humans being able to do magic. Not so far as I know, at least. But people definitely know about us.

My dad was world-famous.

I am the Youngest of the Old. [The words were said pompously, but with more than a little amusement at the title.] Even the old were young once.

This might be rude to ask, but did people ever have trouble accepting that there was someone who could use real magic?

[She shook her head at his question, and held back a small chuckle.]

Nah, it's not rude and all.

And...I guess there are always your non-believers, sure. A friend of mine used to be really weird about the whole not believing magic was real, for some reason. [*coughWallycough*] But for the most part, I think it was a pretty widely accepted thing. I mean, where I came from, superheroes and supervillains were all media favorites. We have aliens and magic users and people who could fly and run at the speed of sound and lift tons and tons of weight with a single hand. As far as I know, all this had been made public knowledge from before I was born.

[He sighs.]

Thank you. I think it is good to know that there is some hope of that, even if not within my world.

Hey, you never know.
