o1 ♐ video

[There’s a girl staring at the screen with a look that’d seem almost dead if not for the intensity in her eyes. Katniss is really fucking unhappy, and it shows] It was supposed to be over. [She’s addressing the screen, but it sounds almost like she’s talking to herself.] It was supposed to be over, and they were supposed to leave me be.

[Her fingers twine around each other, drawing attention to the way her hands are scarred with burns and stretched, pale skin where it was grafted on. Observant people might note similar marks crawling up the side of her neck] They told me this emperor knows everything, but that just sounds like another word for president to me. I won’t play this game again, not ever. [Her fingers form a fist and she tears her eyes away from the screen to stare at it. She’s silent for so long, it seems almost as though she’s forgotten she was recording]

Where’s Peeta? [It doesn’t seem to have occurred to her that he might not be here.] No more games.

The emperor doesn't know everything. She knows plenty she's not telling us, and she is trying to use us, but she's not all-powerful. She doesn't control us.

[ She tilts her head a little, studying the girl on the screen with an expression almost as blank as Katniss'. ] What's your name? I'm Natasha.

[ Natasha smiles, humorless, but there's nothing but calm assurance in her tone. ] I know. Words may not prove anything, but at the moment, that and experience are all I have.

[ A pause. ]

Girl on fire. Your friend mentioned that too. Do you mind telling me what it means?

No, I didn't, but it came up when he introduced himself earlier. [ And Natasha stalks everything on the network. That too. ]

Apparently you did. You're both still using the name.

This may is going to seem like an insane question, but did you survive?

They can. You can encrypt it if you know what you're doing, or know someone who can encrypt it for you, but even then...

It's probably best if you keep the conversations you need private off the network.

[ She nods a little. ] Our conversation specifically, yes. It has been since the beginning.

You're not alone in that. The level of technology in our home universes seems to vary considerably.

I can give you a code - it's not a hundred percent secure, but it will protect your conversations from anyone who's not... extremely proficient at hacking encryptions. If you want to write your own, you'll need to find someone a little more knowledgeable than I am to teach you.

[ She inclines her head, accepting that answer without question. She wouldn't either, honestly. ]

There's a standard encryption function on the consoles - it won't keep out anyone who has any idea what they're doing, and I wouldn't trust anything too important to it, but it's a little more secure than posting everything publicly.
