[There’s a girl staring at the screen with a look that’d seem almost dead if not for the intensity in her eyes. Katniss is really fucking unhappy, and it shows] It was supposed to be over. [Her fingers twine around each other, drawing attention to the way her hands are scarred with burns and stretched, pale skin where it was grafted on. She’s silent for so long, it seems almost as though she’s forgotten she was recording]

[She seems bewildered that she's being asked] Girl on fire. She doesn't usually introduce herself like that, but the phrase is at the forefront of her mind after Finnick used it. Her scarred fingers tap against her knee] My name is Katniss Everdeen.

[ Natasha smiles, humorless, but there's nothing but calm assurance in her tone. ] I know. Words may not prove anything, but at the moment, that and experience are all I have.

[ A pause. ]

Girl on fire. Your friend mentioned that too. Do you mind telling me what it means?

[Katniss knows that smile, even if she has no idea who this Natasha is] At least you're up front.

[She pauses] You talked to Finnick? [She frowns. Katniss isn't used to people not knowing who she is] To survive in the Hunger Games, you have to make an impression. You have to make people like you, and remember you. They have to think you can win.

We came from the coal district. You have to dress up symbolically. So I became the girl on fire. It wasn't real, not at first. But I...made an impression. [it seems so long ago, now]

They can. You can encrypt it if you know what you're doing, or know someone who can encrypt it for you, but even then...

Is this encrypted? [Her face twists into another smile with no humour] Technology only really exists in the Capitol.

[ She nods a little. ] Our conversation specifically, yes. It has been since the beginning.

There's a lot of technology. It was just used for killing people or entertainment. Sometimes both. They didn't need it outside the Capitol a lot until recently.

[There's a long pause] I want to learn. The encryption.

I can give you a code - it's not a hundred percent secure, but it will protect your conversations from anyone who's not... extremely proficient at hacking encryptions. If you want to write your own, you'll need to find someone a little more knowledgeable than I am to teach you.

[She's visible hesitant] No. I don't want your code. I don't know what it'll do.

[ She inclines her head, accepting that answer without question. She wouldn't either, honestly. ]

There's a standard encryption function on the consoles - it won't keep out anyone who has any idea what they're doing, and I wouldn't trust anything too important to it, but it's a little more secure than posting everything publicly.

Okay. [She nods, once. Something in her countenance has relaxed, just a little bit. She appreciates that Natasha isn't demanding, or forcing her to try and trust her] Thanks for the information.
