First post [Video]
So, I am trapped between Life and Death, and barred from reentering either. [The face on the screen is young- no more than eighteen- and deathly pale, save for a strange sunburn around her left eye. She pauses, draws herself up, and speaks with as much authority as she can muster, though Sabriel is hiding considerable exhaustion.]
If anyone here has some knowledge of necromancy, I wish to speak with them, as well as anyone who can tell me more about this place without insisting "That's the Emperor's business" [And Sabriel can't quite contain her exasperation as she utters that phrase.] , I would be grateful. I don't have much of the local currency, but I have some knowledge of Charter Magic-[And there's a long, hesitant pause before she begins to speak again, in a tone that's halfway between reluctant and reassuring.] And of necromancy- but I do not raise the Dead, I put them to rest. I am willing to trade my services in such for more information, particularly about whatever mechanism is preventing me from walking into Life and Death, and if this land has ever been troubled by the Dead. [And somehow, you can just hear the capital letters in her speech.]

[after all-- there are things about life that'd scare them far more than death, if only they lived long enough to know what they were.]

Wise, if grim, words for someone so young.

[and with that, maybe introductions are in order.] My name is Qilby -- it's a pleasure. If I understand correctly, you have the ability to travel between dimensions?
[at least that's what 'walking into life and death' sounds like, anyway.]

I suppose you could say that. All necromancers learn how to send their spirits into Death.

[a pensive silence.] I ask only because I possess a somewhat-similar ability. I haven't tested to see if I'm barred from using it the way you are, but-- the implications are alarming, if I am.

Well... Whatever's presumably dampening our powers doesn't seem to affect them all -- only the ones that allow us to leave. [although 'escape' may be the proper word, depending on how she feels about all this.] We're brought here, we're treated with exceptional hospitality -- even in the midst of what appears to be a shortage of supplies -- and then we're prevented from straying too far away.
For whatever reason, we're important. Perhaps this barrier is merely to keep us preserved from whatever dangers lay outside. [or from leaving before they can wear out their usefulness-- not that he's going to suggest that out loud.]

[he certainly doesn't seem too impatient to find out what it is, anyway.] In the meantime, I suppose it's up to us to find ways to occupy our time -- as I understand, we now have quite a lot of it.
