[Percy is firmly established in Annabeth's suite again. He's frowning absently at the screen, almost like he's totally forgotten what he was going to say. Instead of words, you get the steady pop pop pop of him messing around with a sheet of bubblewrap in front of him. From the right angle, he appears to be popping it in the shape of a sword. Or a stick. Or maybe just a line.

All of a sudden, his hands stop. He glances at the camera like he's just remembered that it's on, and opens his mouth. Shuts it. Open it again] Hey, I think...I'm seventeen now.

[There's a brief moment of silence before a wide grin breaks out across his face. He laughs, and there's a certain relief in the sound.] Not bad for someone who wasn't supposed to make it past sixteen, huh? Oh man, how did I miss this?

[He leans in towards the screen intently, a certain determination stealing his features. Percy's ADHD brain has caught onto an idea, and it is Extremely Important that it be addressed Right Now] Okay, I know that things are really tight and tense right now for everyone, but this is...well, it's important. Or at least, it'd mean a lot to me. Does anyone know where I could get my hands on some blue food dye? Or like, something that dyes...food...blue.

[That's the same thing, Percy.] I can pay. Or, I don't know, blast you with salt water. I guess no one really wants to swim in the canals right now. [Briefly his expression falls, reminded of what he sees as his failure in trying to save the Water Sector] But yeah, if anyone knows where I could get some, that'd be great.

[There's no resistance when he pulls her away, but she's grinning into the kiss, because ha, unfair or otherwise, she definitely won. She slides both her hands into both of his, just to hold them.] And you being taller than me now isn't fair either.

[His thumbs slide absently over the backs of her hands as he holds them, grinning ruefully. He can't help it, not when she smiles like that.] I can't help growing.

[She pulls one of her hands free to make a height gesture from the top of her head upward to his.] You were not nearly this tall before Hera nabbed you, okay? Maybe I can blame that on her, too.

[He laughs a little, even though there's a twinge of sadness with the reminder of how long they were separated] Yeah, maybe she attached me to two cows and had them run in different directions to stretch me out.

[She snorts, loud and completely unapologetically as that mental image crops up in her head, and it turns into an amused chuckle. Though she doesn't miss the flash of sadness and what it means; it hits her, too, and she squeezes his hand.] I wouldn't put it past her. She hates me that much. [Yes Percy being taller than her is a near personal offense.]

[Then she just sort of wraps her arms around him to give him a hug, leaning up to kiss him on the cheek.] Happy sort-of Birthday, Percy. I think. [Throwing his words back? Throwing his words back.]

[He squeezes her hands back reflexively] Right, there's definitely no other explanation.

[He hugs he back pressing his face into her shoulder after she kisses him on the cheek.] Sort of thank you, I think.

[Flippantly:] None whatsoever!

[Hugs are good. She likes hugs. She tightens it a little bit, just out of the idea of birthdays as accomplishments, because it really is one, especially for him. And she's happy.] You got me thinking... [A pause hangs in the air before she speaks up again.] If you turned seventeen here, I probably have by this point, too.

[because all the months?? why is time weird??]

[He pulls his head back when she says that, opening his mouth and then shutting it again] No way. [A pause] That is so unfair!

[She raises an eyebrow in amusement.] It's not my fault I've been here longer. I can't help aging.

[He raises his eyebrow in retaliation. One hand lifts up to touch the corner of her eye] You're right. I'm starting to see wrinkles.

[She makes a face and moves to pinch the back of his hand.] If anything's there, it's stress lines from a certain son of Poseidon. [She means it with love and teasing.] Unless maybe your eyesight's going?

Hey, ow. [Twitching his hand away. Rude, Annabeth!!] Maybe it is. I'll have to use Mrs O'Leary as a seeing-eye dog.

[She only grins and looks mildly pleased with herself. then it turns into the kind of smile that usually goes along with a laugh.] Is she even trained for that? Maybe just glasses. Giant bifocals, with a chain so you don't lose them.

She's a smart girl, I'm pretty sure she'd get it if I asked nicely. [He shakes his head] Uh uh. If I'm getting old, you're going to have to look after me. If I lose my glasses, you can find them.

I guess she could double as a wheelchair or walker, too. [Still just grinning.] And if I apparently have wrinkles, that doesn't imply I'm any younger than you. We can get you glasses with a function like Riptide's; they'll always appear back on your face.

[She sort of pulls away from the hug, if only so she can take his hands again, looking him in the eyes, before she starts on something.] New goal. For both of us.

[He opens his mouth and then shuts it again at the look in her eye] If you say making Riptide-glasses, I’m going to judge you a little bit.

No. But that's still a good idea. [She rolls her eyes.]

We made it to seventeen. So now we make it to eighteen. [A pause, before she sort of keeps going unintentionally, giving his hands a squeeze.] Then nineteen, then twenty, twenty-five. Thirty.

[Suddenly she is just having feelings over wanting to reach these ages with Percy, okay!! But in a completely good way, because she even sounds a little hopeful. The birthday talk got her thinking, but it's only now that it kind of bubbles out after the teasing. She hates that adulthood is such a challenge, but even with Tartarus looming, she has to believe they can reach eighteen. For a start.]

[But it's also the implication of accomplishing this together. In a future they can share. And she wants that.]

[Percy stays quiet for a long moment after she speaks. Without saying anything himself, he carefully reaches up and tucks a loose curl behind her ear, cupping her face only briefly before going back to holding her hands.]

Ninety. [His tone is decisive, and he nods with it] At least. You and me.

[There's a little nervousness in the quiet before he replies. Then she laughs, but it's something genuine. Maybe even kind of a relief.] Ninety it is. If Churchill can do it, so can we. [A pause.] Though ninety-one would beat him.

[He grins at her then] Beating Winston Churchill? I'm okay with that kind of challenge.

[Grinning back!! Maybe a little playfully, as she lifts herself on her toes to give him a quick kiss.] You're already the superior son of Poseidon anyway.

Don't let Triton hear that. [He goes to kiss her again and then stops himself. His ADHD brain is kicking into high gear]

Oh man, I totally forgot, I got something for you.

[Airily:] I'm not afraid of him. [She looks a little put off when he stops just before kissing her, and the face she gives him is both annoyed and curious. The latter distracts her just enough to focus on that.]

What? When?

Me either, he's kind of a jerk. [He flashes her a brief grin when he sees the face she makes] Hold on, stay here.

[How he managed to hide it in their own room, nobody knows. Clearly he managed to do it well enough that he actually forgot to give the thing to her. He leaves the room they're in and comes back at pace with a book and a rolled up scroll of - something. It's actually a book about the Chihuelan military, and a map of the continent. Percy may be out of easy spending money for the foreseeable future, oops. He holds them out to her] Sorry it, uh, isn't wrapped.

[She's not as obvious about it as he might be, but her ADHD does make her extra impatient sometimes, and she sort of shifts from foot to foot while she listens to him digging around. How had she not found - whatever it was??]

[Her mouth sort of opens in a little 'o' when she sees it's a book, and she takes it from him with a gently sort of reverence, reading over the title. Next the scroll, which she partially unravels to reveal the map, and immediately all her brain is telling her to do is dive for her room and bury herself in studying them both.]

[Except she looks up at Percy, pulling both things against her chest.] You didn't - you didn't have to do this.
