I apologize for this announcement, as it could not possibly come at a worse time, but I feel it is my duty as his friend to let others know. If you knew Grantaire, he is no longer here. It is possible that his disappearance is connected to the rapid decay of Asti in these last few days though I do not think that is likely to be the cause.

[Still, you never know.]

It would not hurt to keep in contact with friends here, should this illness lead to more disappearances.

I've worked his fingers to the bone at the clinic; his mind kept far too busy to dwell on loss. We all saw how he did left to his own devices, and I don't imagine anyone wishes to dig him out of another grave he dug for himself.

I believe it is possible. The turtle cannot continue to support us as he has been--what better way to relieve his stress than to send people away?

No, but fortunately for us both Marius is buried under too much paper work to bury himself in grief or drink.

No offence meant to your friend, but this may be a case of weeding out any of those who might hinder the inevitable fight for our lives we were promised. Most of us are still mortal men walking alongside gods, after all.

...no offense taken. I, too, had thought of that. Grantaire is a friend, but I am one of the first to admit that he is not particularly...given to fighting for what he takes to be lost causes.

I'm glad that I didn't rub salt in an already fresher wound. As for our own role in all this I hope to remedy that. Several people have already shown interest in learning self-defence.

People are inclined to forget even the most mundane of us are capable of learning and adapting.

It is one of humanity's greatest gifts, our ability to adapt, even if at times we should not adapt but stand and fight for what is rightfully ours. I'm afraid I did not see you offering lessons, however. What sort of fighting do you teach?

Closed quarters combat with a particular specification in nullify energy-based powers and temporarily denying human muscle voluntary movement. It isn't exactly an arsenal, but I've seen it do wonders in combat.

Are there prerequisites for learning this ability?

Physical fitness would be recommended, but beyond that? No. The majority of the people I have trained before were laymen and others of the commonality with no prior experience. We also have volunteers to teach newcomers the very basics to begin with.

If I should find myself needing that skill, may I begin lessons? I've found a suitable saber and am able to protect myself with it but with God knows what after Asti and us I may need to know more.

[ Just as plan. Although we should work on that casual use of the 'orient' he isn't too fond of it. ]

I'm always happy to take on willing students, and while we're experiencing a lull in all the chaos I think the sooner the better. It appears Asti has plans for us that exceed our ability.

It's just a theory but I believe he is more omnipotent than he lets on.

I have spoken with him. I do not think he would lead us into danger we could not handle willingly.
