[ The video feed will begin with a burst of static and a scrolling of strange numbers and symbols up both sides of the screen, like an old film that's being wound right from the start. The feed will blink dark for a moment, and then come up to display the chest-up image of an unknown male. He faces the camera confidently, lights from overhead playing on the intricate bony crest sweeping back over the crown of his head, and his tribal-like markings clearly visible. He does not appear to be of a race that any of the Foreigners would have seen in their duration upon Konryu. ]

Greetings, Foreigners.

[ There's confidence in the title as if he seems accustomed to the term, whereas even the natives of Tavimbi still pronounce it with a slight hesitation, like they're not sure if it's actually offensive. ]

My name is Turchight. Like all of you, I was once a victim of Eshai's abduction. Over three hundred years ago, myself, along with with my egg-mate Kethgha and my brood-sister Jehskel, found ourselves cast into the seas at the edges of Tu Vishan's shell.

We were carelessly used by that woman -- [ and it sounds like he'd rather be using another term, but is holding his temper ] -- just as, I assume, all of you have been.

But we escaped.

Whether any of you can be trusted either, however... that remains to be seen. You might be no better than her, or than Ma...

[ Old habits die hard? Turchight seems unwilling to speak Malicant's name, even now. ]

I will answer ten questions of yours -- no more, no less. Be warned that I will judge you by these questions, and while I will answer them if they are sent, they will also determine whether I contact you again or not.

Turchight, out.

---

OOC: There will not be any NPC replies by Turchight, as this is a pre-recorded message, but characters can talk amongst themselves in the comments, including discussing what questions they wish to send back. A final list of questions should be added OOCly to the comment on the itinerary prior to the end of April, when the next Xojan courier is headed back to Zirot.

[users might recognize the background of the welcome center, as Iroh had walked there after realizing that the strange sensation he felt might have been important.]

Well, I thought I was blacking out for a moment there... quite a strange feeling. And it looks like I've been gone for some months. I should have left a note, but I didn't expect that I'd be... well, whatever happens to those of us who leave and return.

For those of you I haven't met, my name is Iroh. I used to serve tea around here. And a few other things.

[Following up on a conversation with Tu Yunxu at the truth party, Pepper appears on the video looking a little pensive. She's totally not just doing this for Yunxu, but with all the things they've had going on recently it's no wonder there haven't been any big, new developments.]

So, uh, now that we've gotten ourselves anchored and aren't sinking anymore, does anyone have ideas on next steps to waking Tu Vishan up? I know I'm not really much help in that area, but I'm betting everyone would be happier if he was awake. Just after some brainstorming here.

[The feed opens with a somewhat concerned and contemplative Obi-Wan Kenobi.]

My fellow Foreigners and the citizens of Keeliai, I have some news that I believe everyone here needs to be made aware of.

[His tone is most serious, and he hopes that it will get the attention of anyone who sees this video.]

I've recently felt a disturbance in the Force. For those of you who are unaware, the Force is an energy field that penetrates and binds all living things. In my galaxy, those who are sensitive to it's power are granted extraordinary abilities.

I do not know what this disturbance is, or where it is coming from, but I feel that it is significant. Thus I ask that everyone be mindful of themselves and their surroundings. If anyone notices anything unusual, I urge you to not keep it to yourself. Please either inform myself or make an announcement via the consoles.

I'll admit, you've got one interesting place here.

[The voice belongs to a young woman, and sounds to be in her early to mid-twenties. A bit tired perhaps, but whatever stress she feels is being carefully restrained as she begins her plea for information - with an introduction naturally.] As practiced as that orientation is at the Welcome Center, I take it everyone is rather used to newcomers. So, hi. Name's Abigail, and I'm from a city called San Fransokyo.

[There's a pause that follows, but the hesitation is shaken off as she proceeds to her point.]

Just walking into the city in the first place showed me a lot. And keeping an open mind, the whole Great Turtle is begging a lot of questions, but I have one thing I would like to confirm.

For lack of a better way to say it, did time really stop back where we came from? Has anyone been able to verify it somehow? I ask because I transitioned here at a really...inopportune moment.

Let me take a guess at how many people you get freaking out on a regular basis. Don't get me wrong, this whole thing is, uh... bullshit, but given we apparently can't do anything about it — do you still get a lot of whiners? Maybe I'm not being fair. Maybe everyone is reasonable about all this.

[ He grimaces, then shrugs. ] Then again, maybe not. Still, forgive me if I mess up some kind of cultural thing because I'm from somewhere that doesn't have magic or people other than humans. I'm still learning.

[ That's when he takes a deep breath and looks almost pained that he has to keep talking. ]

All of that said, my name is Junior. Well, no it isn't, but I go by that. My name is Will Vega. I guess I'm looking for a job now. Anyone know of anywhere looking for a baker?

[There's a strong sound of static on this broadcast. Perhaps it's from all the salt. Still, a voice gets through. It's the voice of a young girl and it sounds skeptical and just a tad put-out.]

Hello?

...I was told there are people on the other side of this, but I have looked and there was no one there.

If there are people where I cannot see, then I am looking for my friend. His name is Ico.

[There's a pause, filled only by static before she speaks again.]

I am Yorda.

[Zatanna almost didn't go through with the announcement.  She was tired of them.  Of having to go on the public network and tell everyone about the disappearance of yet one more person close to her.  After three years...and more discussion on the subject than she ever wanted to have again...]

[But then she found his scrapbook.  The one he had started all those years ago, trying to record as many memories and notes of people that had come and gone.  A way to honor their memory.  After a time, it had become a shared project of theirs.  He'd shown her the entries for Dick and Kyle and Pepper and Finnick and so many others.  Now she had another name to add to it.  As it was, the book could just barely be visible behind her, sitting on a chair with the beginnings of a new entry already jotted down at the top of what she knew would wind up being several pages long:]

Jack Frost is gone.

[To her credit, her voice was steady.  Her face was freshly washed, hair combed.  There were no signs of the tears that had fallen upon realization earlier.  No evidence of her heartache.  Only the slightest hint of reddened eyes from when she'd had to speak to some of the local children earlier.]

[Jack's children.  The ones he used to play with in the park.]

[Her eyes lowered to a twin set of figurines sitting on the edge of her table.  Two little turtles.  Hand carved.  After a long, contemplative pause, she turned the two of them so that their noses touched.  In between the empty space formed a small heart.  A Secret that had taken her far too long to figure out.]

The Welcome Center will continue on as normal.  In case anyone was wondering.

And before anyone asks--[because she knows they will]--I'm fine.  I'm...almost used to it by now.

[One of the biggest lies she'd ever told.  She could deal.  She could carry on.  But she would never get used to it.]

[Right off, what will be remarkable is that China has enabled video; those familiar with her network habits will probably recall she doesn't usually.]

[The second remarkable thing is the small fluffball she's holding cradled to her chest. It's a rabbit. It's small, it's white, it's adorable, and it's got a collar around its neck with a soul gem. Which means yes, the small animal China is cuddling is none other than Erskine Ravel.]

[She's stroking the bunny very nicely.]

I wonder. Wasn't some fine gentleman giving us updates on the weather, occasionally?

I find I miss his gardening tips.

[She sounds and looks entirely earnest, blue eyes wide, face innocent, and she pauses only a moment to scratch behind the bunny's ears very delicately.]

And some sort of a forecast would be useful, I think, as things turn cooler.

[This is completely and totally the only reason she's made this post. Really.]

Hello, my name is Jacob Kane. [ It looks like Cain is in a kedanese shop somewhere. He waves for the camera, makes sure not to jostle the cup he has by his elbow. ] What I'm going to say is specifically meant for the foreigner population of Keeliai, but in the interest of transparency I'm bringing this up on the public network. There's no point in the suggestion at all if we do anything in secret. That said...

We need some sort of system. No, I'm not talking about government or laws or enforcement thereof, but any type of accountability we can agree to. With the current state of things, it's just not feasible for us to keep acting as individuals — whether or not we have anything aside from our status as non-natives in common, we are a group all on our own and I honestly believe we'd all benefit from having something put into place that would keep us from imploding and possibly taking innocents with us in the crossfire.

Now, at this point, all I really ask is that we discuss it. Ideas, suggestions, thoughts and feelings on the matter. Just to collate how we feel as a whole before maybe organizing a meeting in person to go over finer details. Even if you haven't been here long, or don't believe in the idea of a system, I would like to hear why so we can try to address any issues.

If nothing else, we'll all learn something from the exercise, right?

[It is night, the very earliest of hours in the new day, and Louis is sitting in a dully lit room. The color of the light is a dull blue, and his face is mostly in shadow. The darkness outside and the blue-teal light give his white skin -- what can be seen of it -- a very unhealthy hue. However, his voice is soft and curious in tone, and welcoming in its calmness]

One of my most favorite of memories of my home were the crawfish. Platters full of bright red crawfish, freshly caught, steaming and soon to be bathed in seasoned butter.

[Being in the Water district has brought these distant memories back and they make him smile slightly as he thinks on it. He couldn't now remember what crawfish tasted like but he remembered that he had enjoyed it.]

Do they have here what any of you recall fondly from your own homes? More surprising to me is not what all is different here, but how much is so similar, to what I once knew.

The Justicar believes believes that we are beneath her, that we are inferior. She believes that we will submit to her will and will make no move against her or her people. She is, in part, correct. As a whole we should not do anything that openly opposes her.

[Her voice is cold, even and completely devoid of emotion.]

However, I will not stand by while these invaders dishonor their dead. These executions on our soil are bad enough without this blatant disregard for the sanctity of the soul. Something must be done. I am certain that some of you will agree with me, just as I am certain that some of you will try to dissuade me.

[A deep breath]

I plan to give these people a proper burial, because no matter what they did while they were alive, they still deserve that.

[Enjolras has looked better, certainly, though he's about as polished and as formal as he usually is, clad in his new light grey linen coat and waistcoat, even a loose cravat despite the heat. He's certainly sweating for the effort, all the same, his hair showing definite curled frizz that escapes its braid. There's also something about him that looks tireder than usual, but still, his expression is friendly enough as the vid feed starts.]

A great number of things have lately come to my attention, but among the most important is the fact that I must, that it is imperative for me to find activities of a less solitary nature than I've had since our return from...our return from war.

For a long time, it occurred to me that putting aside all reminders of it were the better way but I think, instead, that something active, some way of keeping my most relevant skills fresh, perhaps bettering, them, will be of more benefit here in the long run, and could help me socially as well. If I might train with...

That is to say, I wish to improve my ability with a blade. I fence in the foil discipline, and trained a little in it here, before the war, and can pick up an epee as needed, provided you are not freakishly tall [There's a wink to show it's a joke]. Is there anyone here who might be willing to go a few rounds with me, either for simple exercise, or, perhaps, if we suit and you find that you have things to teach me, for lessons of a sort?

Do please let me know, it may be nice to find action that I might do something with and about again, action I can control I... [That's enough for now, he realizes, breaking off with a little abrupt wave of his hand.]

Anyway, please do let me know.

[Frazzled isn't quite the right word. She went from being in the middle of an attack on the hospital to suddenly being in the middle of a street in a downright peaceful looking part of Metal that doesn't look like it's been recently struck by Malicant, and has changed quite a bit. Not to mention the piece of jewlery she found on her, which she's keeping stuffed in a pocket for now.

Trying to ask the kedan doesn't really get her many answers; they're mixed, with a few kedan who recognized her from her work with the hospital focusing on the fact she's back- since when was she gone, but she isn't sure she wants an immediate answer to that, with all the differences- to some being downright rude or avoiding the question completely, which isn't that much of a surprise, if a frustrating one.

She ends up slipping into a cafe, finding a console- checking the network doesn't do much more than confuse her further, finally leading her to turning on the video herself:]

[ Set the day after Valdis' vision hits all the Foreigners, but Bakura doesn't address it, instead appearing slightly bored. ]

Anyone else feel like getting paid to keep records? I was paying that Accelerator kid to do them for the dojo, but he's disappeared. I can do them, but they're boring as hell, so I'd rather not.

However if you'd feel compelled to ask where every deposit comes from, don't bother volunteering. Sometimes you're just going to have to write in, "sudden windfall" and leave it at that.

I'm sorry...I didn't mean for this to happen. I didn't even know it could.

[She sounds exhausted.]

And I know that several of you are hurting as a result of what happened when I tried to possess Tu Vishan...

[The fact that the other foreigners had seen the vision was distressing, she didn't like being used for anything, even if it was by a benevolent being. It was still just too reminiscent of Malicant.]

But the turtle is alive.

[Her voice is quieter now.]

And that vision...I believe it came from him.

For those of whom you haven't met, my name is Robert Callaghan. I used to be a professor, back home, before I found myself here. And I know things have been a bit...hectic...lately, but I've got some news.

To make a long story short, I can call myself 'Professor' again. I've been talking with some of the Kedan who work over at the university, and they've accepted my help. The educational system here is a bit different than what I'm used to, and not necessarily in a bad way, but...it still could use a bit of help. I'll be working with them to open up classes to both the locals and foreigners, and ideally would like a hand in making sure everything goes smoothly these first few weeks. Nothing too advanced, just some information sharing for those of us who are missing the basics, whomever we are. Everyone has something to learn, or even teach.

[beat]

Now, then, while that's all getting fixed up, I'm still doing some mechanic work on the side- you already heard from my 'coworker', Hiro. Ideally we'll get things to the point where everyone can take care of their own simple fixes, but until then...he's not shabby with a wrench, and I'm not, either.
