[The way she clings to him tightly; it feels like more than just the long absence between them, and he remembers the haunted look she'd had in her eyes earlier. He runs one hand soothingly up and down her back, as if to ease the tension he can feel there, and lays a feather kiss to the top of her head. He's in no hurry to pull away, and for once, there's nothing remotely sexual about any of it.]

Hey, it's alright. I've gotcha, and I'm not going to rest till the Doctor and I get us all out of here, okay?

[He gives her another, lighter, squeeze. And then- he finds himself tensing a bit at her question. Immediately, he forces the tension to slide away, not wanting to alarm Rose. What to tell her... what would be believable, in this moment, without giving too much away. Clearly, she's past their battle on Satellite Five, but he doesn't know what- if anything- the Doctor ever told her about it, and about him. The one time he's seen her since, she hadn't known.]

I was in Cardiff. [That much is easy enough to say, and he gives an amused laugh.] Yeah, I know, Cardiff. I've been there for awhile. You remember the Rift we parked the TARDIS on? It's still there, spews a lot of wackiness into the area. Explains a lot, actually. But, I work with a team to take care of it all, protect people from it. It sounds kinda pompous, but it's a good job. Last thing I remember, I was tracking down a rogue Weevil- ugly little suckers, tend to go on rampages every so often, and people who end up in their path usually end up dead- I remember tripping during the chase, and then- I musta banged my head, because next thing I knew, I was waking up here.
