[The video feed pops on to the sight of a dashing- if he might say so himself- man in his seeming mid-thirties, grinning widely at the camera; he has a somewhat period look about him, dressed in a button up, suspenders, and a greatcoat that speaks of war, but there's a spark in his gaze that speaks of mischief. After all, he's taken some time to read through recent activity on the network, and he's come across one very familiar name. It's a name he had not expected to hear again for some time, but if the tone of his voice when he calls it out is any indication, he's not disappointed in the least.]

Rose Tyler: what's a beautiful girl like you doing stuck in a place like this? [Jack gives a cheerful laugh, his grin stretching wide across his face.] It's been awhile. What do you say, you, me, a little celebration for our reunion?

[His eyes all but twinkle, and then he speaks again, addressing not Rose this time, but everyone else.] As for the rest of you; Captain Jack Harkness. [One hand raises in a half salute.] At your service. I'm sure it'll be a pleasure to meet each and every one of you. Until then, I'd love to hear more about this place, this- "In Between" business.

[That's entirely the reaction he was aiming for; her laughter pulls a bright grin to his face, his hand slipping away from her cheek tenderly as he halfheartedly tries to block the hit to his arm. He fails, of course, but preens, chin jutting up, as she fixes his collar.]

I resemble that remark, Rose. [He's laughing still, trying to look serious, and failing at that too.] I am not a heart breaker! I'm- a horizon expander!

[And if only she knew how wrong she was... There's a piece of Jack that's loved her since all those years ago, when they traveled together with their first Doctor. And yet... he still has the memory of the Doctor's face when he'd decided to drop of future-Rose with his other self...]

Yeah, and there's all kinds of horizons for you to expand.

[Which actually makes her a bit jealous, because there are a ton of people here and surely Jack's the kind of person who'll get to know them all. He'll find all kinds of favorites and have his attention divided all over the place. She frowns at the thought of it, giving a slightly rougher final tug to his collar.]

Which means you better be careful, yeah? You expand someone's horizons a bit too far, there's all kinds of people here with superpowers! You're likely to get yourself killed a few times over.

[Which worries her, actually. Please don't get yourself killed, Jack.]

[His eyebrow raises a little at the second tug, but he doesn't comment on it, instead mentally filing the reaction away to think about later. Something's bothering her, most likely the thought that something might go wrong, and he could be hurt. And while a part of him is tempted to tell her it's impossible, he doesn't want to have to explain. Not until he's had a long talk with the Doctor about it. Maybe not ever, if he can help it.]

Don't worry; I've gotten pretty good at watching out for numero uno. [He's teasing still, although he gentles the tone by reaching down to cup her cheek in his hand again.] And I'm not the one who usually has to get rescued, now am I?

[She tips her face so her cheek's almost nuzzling into the palm of his hand, eyes sliding shut. She's grateful Jack's like her, tactile and warm. Unlike the Doctor, there's no awkwardness there when she stands with him like this, no questioning whether or not it's the right choice. It's just perfect, and she realizes that no matter what bit of jealousy she might feel toward girls that earn his attention here, none of them will ever come close to getting this out of him.

Her eyes open, and she gives him a mock exasperated look.]

Oh, don't you dare start all that. We all get into trouble sometimes. [Her more than others.]

Anyway, I haven't needed to be rescued here once! I've been the one helping, saving the day, same as always. One time, me and Jim even had to jump across rooftops to escape something. Almost fell right off, but managed to figure things out. [She is so the hero here, captain.]

[She gets a bright laugh at her protest, and he tweaks her cheek lightly in response.] Whatever you say, Miss I-Fly-By-Barrage-Balloon. [A wink, to show he's not serious, and an interested look to follow it up. She'd mentioned a 'Jim' earlier, and while he'd been focusing on the more serious topic then, he hadn't let it go unnoticed.]

Jim, huh? Is this the 'mate' you mentioned earlier, the guy you're living with? [Because anyone close to Rose is going to get the fifth degree from Jack. Not that he lets Rose see that now, of course. He covers it up with a flirtatious grin instead.] Is he cute?

[Her cheeks flush red, because yes, she does think Jim is attractive. But she hasn't really looked beyond every now and then, and so she gets flustered, and bristles at Jack's question.]

So not gonna answer that! You'll just have to find out for yourself. He's the one I'm living with, though. And really, it's not what it sounds like. I don't think he'd ever look at me that way, not in a million years. [Kind of like every other man in her life, it's okay. She's got it under control.]

And you better not look at him that way, either.

[Because she does not want to be jealous of Jack and Jim liking the other more than they like her, and she knows she will and it would be just awful.]

[Jack has to fight back a grin at her reaction, the way she bristles. He'd forgotten how she looked that way, in all this time, and it's a strain not to laugh, because he realizes suddenly how much he misses all her reactions, so very her. His eyebrows hike high at the last bit, though.]

If he hasn't looked at you that way, then he must be blind- or just not of that persuasion, which is alright too. After all, can't have too many eyes on you, Rose. I might have to teach you a thing or two about fighting, so you can beat off your admirers when I'm not around to do it for you.

Oh, he's of that persuasion alright. Trust me on that one.

[She rolls her eyes, trying to act exasperated. But really, she's got no idea what he thinks when he talks about admirers.]

Oi, come on now! Haven't been with anyone since Mickey. There's not exactly a line of admirers waiting to get at me, but guess I won't argue if you wanna teach me a thing or two.

[She pauses, looking awkward now.]

'Bout fighting, I mean.

That's only because you haven't stayed in one place long enough for the line to form. [He does grin now, mussing her hair teasingly.] And I say again- if he hasn't looked at you that way, he must be blind. You've got everything a guy could want, Rose. [He smile becomes a bit less teasing, more sincere here. The look in his eye warm.] The looks, the smarts, the courage. The Doctor doesn't take just anyone with him, you know, only the best.

[And then he nods in answer, shifting into a bit more of a solemn mood.] I'd be happy to. I probably should have a long time ago, but you know how the Doctor can be about fighting.

[She feels her cheeks turning red at that little bit about her, and she ducks her head to laugh it off. She doesn't really feel all that beautiful or smart, but she feels courageous now. Thanks to him and the Doctor.]

Don't worry 'bout him any. If I wanna learn how to fight here, I'm gonna. He'll just have to be happy you're the one teaching me.

[She gets a bit of a laugh, and he just resists the urge to tease her hair again.]

A real rebel, huh? We'll get you signed right up, then, Jack's school of rough housing.
