All right, Keeliai, I have a business opportunity to propose. As of right now, I'm relaunching Wayne Enterprises. For those of you who've never heard the name before, it's a multi-national business conglomerate with a focus on humanitarian aid and the like, based out of Gotham City back home.

Anyway. For the duration of my stay here, I'm looking to start in pharmaceuticals - I'm sure you've all noticed the kedan have never even heard of ibuprofen - and work our way up from there. Essentially, I'm looking to better the quality of life for everyone on Tu Vishan, foreigner and local alike.

I'm not going to argue economics with you, Captain. Doubtless you wouldn't understand the subject. But suffice to say, I've been in this business my entire life. Working without turning a profit is a quaint... [lipquirk] fairytale. It's simply not feasible from a business standpoint.

I'm familiar enough with economics to know that wealth and the knowledge of how to abuse it can beggar a country. [Holding his breath and counting to five.] I didn't say you should open a business without turning a profit. I said that I don't consider work done for profit to be philanthropy. What about the kedan in the poorer sectors? What about those who don't have the education to know what you're offering is a boon?

Or maybe you don't know them in my time. I'm sure that 'band of brothers' ideology worked in your day, but things have changed since then. Significantly. Let me explain.

When you can turn on any news channel and hear a story about how soldiers were torturing 'terrorists' on camera - not for the first or second or third time, but the hundredth, or when we hear about them assaulting women - both their sisters-in-arms and women local to whichever area they're stationed in, then I think I do know them. If you want to claim those men as your 'brothers', you be my guest. Your naivety on the subject, frankly, is not only appalling but insulting.

The country I pledged my life to slaughter Japanese civilians wholesale and imprisoned its own citizens on its own soil. You think I haven't seen the hauntings rape leaves, that I don't know what cruelty looks like? You insult me.

[His hands fist in front of the console.] Humanity is humanity in any age. My brothers are the ones who speak and fight against the things you're talking about. My sisters are the ones who know that there are monsters in our ranks and fill them anyway. By all means, watch the news, see the stories that make it home about the villains who hide their sins behind the flag. By all means, tell me what you think you know about what it means to be a soldier.

Soldiers are not those people. They never were. The best men and women I've known, the bravest, those who love the world deeply enough to die, even for the monsters - they are soldiers.

I'd say go to hell, but I've been. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
