[The video opens on Victoria’s water sector suite. Miles and Victoria are in front of the camera, the latter of whom seems to have been put there somewhat against her will.]

Hey guys, Miles and Victoria here. We decided to do this broadcast ‘cause we’re both looking for jobs! Isn’t that right, Vic?

[Victoria’s eyes shift to look at Miles before her head turns and she’s silent for long enough to make it awkward before she speaks a single, slightly monotone word.]

Yes.

[She looks at the camera again and still looks like she wants to inch away from it but she decides to speak again.] I need to buy food.

[Victoria, you really shouldn’t put it that way. People will think you’re starving. She looks at Miles again, a clear ‘now what?’ look on her face.]

...Right. We both need to be able to buy stuff like food. Now, neither of us have much work experience, but I’m pretty good at math, and can be, like a delivery boy or something. Victoria, what are some of your skills?

[He looks at her somewhat expectantly, knowing she doesn’t like it, but also knowing it’s necessary.]

I can sweep. And do dishes.

[And draw but she’s not entirely sure that’s relevant.] Does...does that count?

That totally counts. I bet somebody will want to hire you to help keep their shop clean or something. [He looks at the camera now,] Right, everybody? Victoria would totally make a great maid.

So that’s it. We both need a job, and anybody who can help us out, please let us know! Thanks! [In a stage whisper, he adds,] Say thanks, Victoria.

[Victoria gives Miles another look, sighing slightly before ducking offscreen. It almost seems like she’s not going to say anything at all, but then she pops back into view again and says a hasty and slightly mumbled thanks before disappearing again.

That’s close enough. And good enough for Miles, as he waves and ends the feed.]

[Oh no, children, his not-so-secret weakness. Arthur is usually a cranky and sometimes unpleasant man, but talking to kids, and ones as young as this... He's a lot softer, his smile almost gentle.]

If either of you are struggling, I'm sure there are several people who would help. [Like him and his wife. They don't spend much anyway.] That said, if you're willing to learn to tie a proper knot, I could pay a bit for helping repair my fishing nets, or maybe making deliveries to the couple of restaurants I sell to. Money, a home-cooked meal [Cooking is still odd when you eat most things raw, but he used to watch his father do it as a child.], all the fish you want to cart home.

[Not that she can remember.]

[Which she knows doesn't answer the question at all. She just doesn't like the idea of outing her own unintelligence.]

[Damian blinks, but then the next question is - unusually gentle.]

That can be useful, too, if you really really like it.

[Have a very tiny smile, Damian. She appreciates the concern.]

Why?

Because I should rather like more runners for my crew, and while it is no particular import to me if one has never flown dragonback before, I should rather like one to be amenable to the idea.

[And you're kids, and he likes kids. Kids weigh less. :'|]

[They do make it a lot easier, though it's been a long time since his hands were the small ones helping his father repair nets.] Then I'd be glad to have the help. Just let me know when you're free, I have a flexible schedule.

[She has people that have taken to checking on her and since she can't necessarily write notes, a verbal message is her only way to communicate to others what's going in.]

I don't know if I ever have. But...maybe?

What does your crew do?

Of course. How about in two days? [He honestly seems relieved that someone is looking out for her. A child this young shouldn't be on her own. And two days will give her some time to let her caregivers know, and him some time to artfully rip some fishing nets so they won't be too difficult to mend.]

I dunno, were you offering something? [Oh, he remembers you.]

[he knew Toph had talked about how the options for kids were kind of limited, something he'd had more than enough experience with (most of the kids he knew worked in bribes or pick pocketing)]

Wish I could help you guys out. But it sounds like you're mostly covered-- and all of those are pretty good skills to have, to be honest.

I would definitely appreciate the help. Most of it is to restaurants in Water Sector. [It's really nothing he needs employees for, but... Well. It already seems barbaric that even children have to earn money just to feed themselves. If he can help, he wants to, and it's been some time since Garth was this young, but Arthur knows he wouldn't have wanted to just take handouts, so he's guessing it might be the same here.]

Crafts, construction, herb knowledge and healing, cooking - it really depends on what you want to learn, indeed. And there are certain positions that you can seek out where you can work with the kedan children. Those were rather difficult during the rationing, but are becoming open again.
