03 [Video]

[There are two things immediately noticeable about Yue when the video comes on. The first is that she's wearing her hair down, instead of the usual Water Tribe braids and hair loopies. The second is that she looks nervous. ... More than usual, anyway.]

I was wondering. [Um.]

We all have duties that need tending to back in our own worlds, yes? But... if we can't really return to those lives, even if we went home. Um. [Almost absently, she starts touching the betrothal necklace around her neck.]

It wouldn't be abandoning those duties if you tried to pursue your own life here... would it?

[This was only slightly prompted by her earlier conversation with Steph. Really, it's been something Yue has been worrying about for a while now. She knows if she goes home, it'll be to become the new Moon Spirit. So, really, trying to make a life for herself and just acting as Yue instead of Princess Yue shouldn't be so bad.

Of course, that hasn't stopped her from feeling guilty about it, either.]

[What, no, she's not blushing. You saw nothing.]

I can't say I've ever put much focus on how my hands look before. [Well. It's not an 'I don't want it'.]

[He roots around in one of his pockets and pulls out a money bag. Looking at the stall owner and asking how much it was for the ring.

He bites his tongue to save himself from saying anything too sappy. Can't be a total dork or come across desperate or something.]

You can still see something as well! I mean that was more me putting it on your finger and then sort of just buying it. So uhm, yeah.

That's all right. Maybe we can look around some more... and don't forget to tell me if you see something you'd like!

[Sokka had paid for the ring and smiled as he nodded. He took her hand again and moved down the street, still looking at stalls on both sides.]

They had places like this in the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation. Just stalls and stalls of different things.

[She thinks on that for a moment.]

I wish I could have seen what those places were like. [Well, the Earth Kingdom, mainly. And maybe the Fire Nation after the war ended. Maybe.]

But this is just as good, I think.

If we get home, you will.

[Sokka squeezes her hand and smiles.]

But let's just pretend this is a mix of both! That way, you can see it, even though we're here.

[She smiles a little bit. She would be able to see everything when she returned - just from a different perspective. The moon shines over every nation, after all.

Though, that thought does make her pause again. Yue is gradually learning to let go of her former life, but there's one part she's still clining too.]

Sokka?

[He's still smiling and 'hm's at her when she says his name. Turning to look at him, his smile falters and his brow pinches a little.]

Something wrong?

No, it's... I was just thinking. [She tugs at her betrothal necklace.

Yue never loved Hahn, and her marriage to him wouldn't even happen... not with everything that had occurred before she was brought here. It's only now occurring to her that keeping it is just another way of clinging to a life she has to leave behind.]

I don't think I need this, anymore.

[Sokka can only watch her for a few moments as he processes what she said and what she means by it. Her necklace...

Sokka stops completely, moving his body so he was facing her properly. His hand went to her shoulder and he swallowed because his throat was suddenly dry. Okay, maybe his heart was beating a little faster as well because this? This was a big deal, especially for Yue.]

Are you sure?

[Because he really didn't want her to make any decisions where she might feel pressured in to for any reason.]

I think so.

I mean... with everything that's happened, I wouldn't be able to get married even if I did return home. My life has changed in a lot of ways, but keeping this around is... [Pointless.]

It just doesn't make sense, now that it doesn't serve any purpose. [And thinking back on what could have been would be pointless, too.]

[She had a good point. Sokka had no idea what to do right now, he'd never come across a situation like this before and it was so different from everything that he's experienced.

He moved his hands and took both of hers, bringing them so they were together between them both and nodded.]

Alright then. I'll be here for you no matter what.

Thank you. [She gives Sokka's hands a gentle squeeze before she lets go, reaching back to remove her necklace.]

I think this is better, though. [Just... continuing to move on. It's difficult, but she's accepted that it's for the best.]

[It feels like there's a sudden pressure in his chest as he watches Yue reach up at take off her necklace. It held so much meaning and taking it off meant more. He was proud of her for doing what she wanted.

He smiled and stepped in to give her hug, it wasn't a suffocating one, he wanted it to be more supportive and then he was stepping back.]

That couldn't have been easy and I'm really proud of you. Come on, let's go do something to celebrate!

[It was better to move on like this, right?]

[Yue hugs him back, and offers him a small smile once he pulls away. While she's no longer wearing it, she's still holding onto her betrothal necklace. She may have come to terms with leaving her previous life, it would feel disrespectful to just drop the thing and pretend it was never there. More likely, she'll just put it somewhere whenever she returns to her suite.]

I'd like that. What would you like to do?

[Sokka shakes his head at the question.]

I think you should choose, anything you want.

[It was Yue's moment, Sokka felt like she should have the choice and be able to pick what to do in celebration. It wouldn't matter what it was, he'd be happy with it.]

I... don't really know. Maybe we can just keep going for now. [She'll figure something out later.]

That sounds good. [He nods to the idea and takes her hand as they walk on, getting further and further along the stalls.]

[In a way, this works better for Yue. What she did was important, yes, but she'd rather not think on it any more than she has to. For now, she's content to just keep on shopping with Sokka... and also looking for something he may like, while they're at it.]

[Sokka's more than pleased to walk with Yue, her company is great and he finds that they don't even have to talk for it to be comfortable. A stall caught his eye, he looked over the items and picked one up, it was like a telescope, but when he looked in to it he pulled back.]

Wow, look at this!

[It's a kaleidoscopic and the effect was pretty damn cool.]

It's very nice. [It's not something Yue is interested in, but clearly Sokka likes it well enough.]

Do you want it?

Hmm, I don't know. We can come back? [He likes it but there might be something else that catches his eye and makes him forget about this.]

Of course. [And that gives her time to double check how much money she has, anyway.]

Is there anything specific you're looking for? [She grins.] Or just looking?

Just looking really. Don't have any ideas, I tend to just shop for food or the few bits of clothing I got.

Hmm... well if you see anything, tell me, all right? [AND SO the browsing continues for a while. It's simple enough, but... well, it's enjoyable for her. After all, how often would she have been able to do something like this back home? It certainly wouldn't be very common.]

The marketplaces here really are big, aren't they? Are they this large in the Earth Kingdom or Fire Nation?
