[The feed opens up on a bewildered Jehan. He has in his hands a set of panpipes]

While I was out in the city today, I came across these panpipes at the base of one of the arches in the city. No sooner did I pick it up then this--

[He's cut off by the pipes playing the first part of Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique. After a moment, it automatically quiets down so it's just a little background music as Jehan speaks]

--happened. As I returned home, it began to play Ave Maria when I began to hum it. I do not know how it knows these songs nor how it is possible for a set of pipes to play them, yet it does and it is. If these belong to you, I am in the Wood Sector if you wish to retrieve them.

[He hopes no one claims them. They're marvelous.

They are! They seem to play anything I ask of them, and will play quietly if I ask, as I'm certain you noticed. I cannot imagine ever being so careless as to lose them.

Perhaps their owner, whoever it may have been, was not nearly as appreciative of it. Which is unfortunate for them, but fortunate for yourself.

How anyone could be unappreciative of these marvelous pipes is simply unfathomable. Music, whenever you wish it! Why would you ever discard such a thing?

It is, once you accustom yourself to the sudden outburst of music at seemingly random intervals. It seems to know precisely what song I am humming or even thinking of.

It seems to respond to what I want. I do not know any songs published after earlt 1832--if you suggest one, I will see if it can play it.

Hmm, try asking it to play The Easy Winners? It's ragtime, right about 1900-ish. Pretty catchy! They used to play it at the horse tracks.

[Sei is actually genuinely interested, partly because music and partly because that is nifty.]

I wouldn't look too hard for whoever was so careless as to lose that.

They're very interesting. Could I see them in person?

[Dorian's tone is light but his mood isn't. He may have recklessly taken home a magic carpet himself, but his experience with self-playing musical instruments isn't really positive and he wants to ensure that these ones don't twist Jehan's soul or send him to Hell.
