Right. So. That--and you all know exactly what I'm talking about, don't pretend you don't--but that? That whole incident? That is why you don't say the name of things you don't want showing up at your doorstep. Words have power. Names have a lot of power, and true names? True names can be used to kill. Whoever called that Thing--thanks a lot! If anyone needs me, I've got some potions to prepare before going to see if that Thing is actually in the city or if it was just projecting itself psychically.

[As she cuts it, you can hear her grumbling about "stupid mortals" and "honestly, don't you people watch television or read?"]

[She nods]

I'm hoping it was just projecting itself and isn't actually here. It's probably a lot closer than we'd like, though.

Isis, huh. [She looks slightly impressed, but unsurprised. She's actually never met a god, but her teacher has, anyway. Gods and demons and angels and faeries are just part of the whole mess of crazy that is Molly's life.] Can't say I've got anyone that impressive looking out for me.

[Which is not the entire truth, but hey. She's not gonna run around blabbing about the Winter Knight being her teacher, is she.]

I'm sure it is. Big nasties like that like to, um, lurk, I've found. God, I wish Harry were here.

Who's Harry?

My teacher. He's kind of way better at dealing with the big nasties than I am.

He'd be helpful right about now, yeah. I'd kill for my brother or someone else to help me.

Brothers would be good too. [A little nod.] I'm Molly, by the way. Hi.

Sadie. Are you a magician or something else?

I'm a wizard. Or an -- apprentice wizard, I guess? Sort of. [Man, when your teacher's been apparently dead for a year, things get confusing.]

Anyway, as far as I know, I'm definitely not Harry Houdini.

It's long, complicated, and you're honestly wishing your mentor would just let you get on with your life already?

...Something like that, with a side of maybe-dead thrown in.

[She grimaces]

Oh, I bet that's fun.

Oh, so fun. [She sighs a little.] It gets better. Or I hope it does, anyway.

Well, if he's only maybe-dead, he could always be maybe-alive.

Yeah. I think he is, he's just -- not in the best place right now. As far as I can guess.

Are the Egyptian gods a thing in your world? If they are, I'm sure Osiris would be happy to get a not actually dead bloke out of his hall if you asked and made an offering.

They are, I think, but I've never run across any. I think he ...might be with the fae. Which is ...mostly horrifying, but not like, world-ending. If you know what I mean.

He being your mentor? Or he being Osiris, because as the daughter of Osiris's current permanent host--at least back home--that's worrisome, if faeries are real.

He being Harry, yeah. Osiris, I have no idea about, but Harry's run into valkyries and stuff, so it's reasonable that he exists somewhere and I haven't met him yet.

[There's a bit of a (slightly mad) giggle, there.] Faeries are very definitely real. Be glad there aren't any here.

Real in my home, I meant. I've no doubt they're real for you, but with all the gods running around back home we may not have room for faeries.

Maybe. Do your gods do the change of seasons and all that?

No, I'm pretty certain that's just natural.

...Right then, no faeries in your world, probably.

At least as far as I know. I mean, I thought there weren't magicians and gods in my world and look what happened there.

Oh, I've always known there were wizards around. I've known Harry for forever.

Yeah, for some reason my family thought it best to hide it, even though they knew we'd have to be told sooner or later. Stupidest thing I've ever heard.
