Just when you think that you've seen everything technology has to offer, there lands yet another surprise in your lap.

[He doesn't look particularly impressed or surprised, really.]

I've really just got one question at the moment... Was that a cow? Not that I've ever seen a real, breathing cow anywhere around home... I don't think anyone has in the last ten years, actually, but there are pictures in holo-books. Maybe GeneCo should expand from human biology and take up endangered and extinct animal species.

[His smile slips then, his expression growing serious.]

[Grave rolls his eyes, tucking the vials back into his coat.]

I collect from the dead because they provide a much purer product, Kid.

[Do you want to know badly enough to ask what he means, Rin?]

[Grave just shrugs, unbothered.]

Them's the breaks, Kid... ain't a pretty business, but it's pretty profitable. The fewer that can stomach the job, the fewer cutting into my profits.

[Rin, Grave isn’t entirely sure what to do with you. In part, he’s exasperated, because he’s having to explain this and you’re just not getting it. Another part of him wonders if you’ve led so sheltered a life that maybe you really don’t get it. That whole ‘real’ innocence thing is pretty rare in his day and age, but it’s a possibility.]
 
One because it works and two because it’s the best there is. This isn’t your average smoke in your mom’s garage kind of bullshit, kid, this is the real deal. Anything worth having is worth working for… that’s one of the first things I learned on the street; and Zydrate? Zydrate is the best.
 
[Which was why he didn’t balk at all at the idea of what he did to harvest it. The people were already dead, after all, so what did they care?]

But that's like...practically cannibalism or something! [SHUDDER. It's not even the drugs part that's bothering him anymore, it's the idea of someone sticking needle in dead people and sucking stuff out that people get high from. Sounds like something a demon would do, not a human.]

Kid, I can assure you that what I do is very different from cannibalism. I don’t eat them, I merely take advantage of a process that happens to anyone that goes through surgery.
