Oh for Thor's sake, they said this would be easy...

[There's a curious green eye studying the communicator before it zooms out to reveal a young boy of about fourteen or fifteen, his face covered in scratches and scars that look both fresh and old, the oldest one a nick on the right side of his chin. He grins a bit tiredly, sitting back and snapping his fingers.]

I knew I could get it to work! Man, if we had things like this back home it'd make communicating with other tribes easier...

[He fiddles a bit, the screen flicking off as he discovers the other functions, a bit of text gibber jabber appearing before it switches back to full video, then he remembers the people he spoke to said that others could be watching.]

Uh, hi. I'm Hiccup. Great name, I know, but I guess it's kept me from being snatched up by gnomes and trolls all these years so it's worth something at least. If you couldn't guess, I'm kinda new...just arrived really. I don't think I was awake for a lot of the talk though, getting knocked out by a giant dragon tail would do that to you. I think I'm awake. At least I hope so anyway. This place doesn't look like any Valhalla I ever dreamed of.

[He reaches down to scratch at his leg.]

There's...a lot of things here that we don't have at home. I hope I don't blow anything up. And, uh, this is gonna sound kinda strange but I don't suppose anyone has anything I can, er, walk with? [Pause.] One of my legs kind of...doesn't work. They helped me here but I don't know how I'm going to get around...

I guess that's...it? Yeah.

[He goes to get up but lets out a yelp as he puts pressure on his injured leg and he falls backwards, crashing to the floor.]

[He's a bit used to the talking dragons by now so it's only minimal staring that she gets before he scratches the back of his neck.]

Well, I was trying to...I guess I was just trying to stop her. [He doesn't even know its gender, but he's going to go with her because of Astrid's queen bee theory.]

See, my tribe's been at war with dragons for three hundred years but it was because they were being controlled by her to gather food or be eaten themselves. I was...hoping I could end it.

[He rubs the side of his head.] I didn't take Toothless's prosthetic tail fin into account and it got burned up on the way down. Her tail coming at me is the last thing I remember before I woke up in that place.

[Thanks to Temeraire and Iskierka she's aware, at least, that dragons in other worlds don't work like she's used to. But the boy's story makes their version of things sound positively reasonable.]

Well, I hardly approve of that sort of behavior, even if you did put yourself in the way of it.

[He gives a small laugh.]

I kind of had to. If I hadn't she was going to destroy my tribe and the other dragons eventually.

Un-dragonlike behavior like that gets you turned into a toad where I'm from.

It's traditional. I've only had to oversee it once, but then, I've been king for less than twenty years, so that's only so lucky.

Y-you're a king?

King of the dragons of the Mountains of Morning. But it's nice to be away and I'm trying to think of this little turtle sojourn as a vacation, so you're welcome to call me Kazul.

[He's never met a king before, he doesn't know if there's any common courtesy he should be applying here.]

Well, uh, I mean if that's what you're okay with.

It's sufficient, and besides, my human friends are really the least likely people to bother with titles. It would throw off the whole dynamic.
