1st Flight [video]
Oh for Thor's sake, they said this would be easy...
[There's a curious green eye studying the communicator before it zooms out to reveal a young boy of about fourteen or fifteen, his face covered in scratches and scars that look both fresh and old, the oldest one a nick on the right side of his chin. He grins a bit tiredly, sitting back and snapping his fingers.]
I knew I could get it to work! Man, if we had things like this back home it'd make communicating with other tribes easier...
[He fiddles a bit, the screen flicking off as he discovers the other functions, a bit of text gibber jabber appearing before it switches back to full video, then he remembers the people he spoke to said that others could be watching.]
Uh, hi. I'm Hiccup. Great name, I know, but I guess it's kept me from being snatched up by gnomes and trolls all these years so it's worth something at least. If you couldn't guess, I'm kinda new...just arrived really. I don't think I was awake for a lot of the talk though, getting knocked out by a giant dragon tail would do that to you. I think I'm awake. At least I hope so anyway. This place doesn't look like any Valhalla I ever dreamed of.
[He reaches down to scratch at his leg.]
There's...a lot of things here that we don't have at home. I hope I don't blow anything up. And, uh, this is gonna sound kinda strange but I don't suppose anyone has anything I can, er, walk with? [Pause.] One of my legs kind of...doesn't work. They helped me here but I don't know how I'm going to get around...
I guess that's...it? Yeah.
[He goes to get up but lets out a yelp as he puts pressure on his injured leg and he falls backwards, crashing to the floor.]

[He gives a small hum around the rim of the thermos, nodding.]
For three hundred years. They raided us because they needed to feed this monster of a dragon, or they'd be eaten themselves. We didn't find that out until recently...well, mostly me anyway; so for a long time we thought they were just mindless beasts.
[He makes a face at the idea that dragons had been wiped out in her world, frowning deeply and pulling the thermos down to rest in his lap, glancing down at it.]
That's what my dad wanted to do. I tried showing them what I'd found out but...I screwed up. He used Toothless to lead them to the nest and nearly got our whole tribe wiped out. That's how this happened.

[Her eyes move up every now and then to see Hiccup as he explains. One kid trying to stop a genocidal war.] You remind me of someone I've never met. Sounds weird, but it's true.
[Aang stopped a war after the rest of his nation was wiped out. Giving a genuine smile that forced her to close her eyes, she finishes the healing that she could do and the glowing fades away.]
Not being able to sit by and do nothing? I know the feeling. You did the right thing. [A wave of her hand and the water flows back into her waterskin.]
That's all I can do for now, Hiccup. You should be able to walk on it okay, won't hurt as much. With a few more healing sessions you should be right as rain.

Well, when you've been banished for trying to show everyone a different way, there's really nothing else left to lose.
[He doesn't elaborate anymore on that as he shifts his leg from the top like he's been doing, then tries to curl the lower part inward. It doesn't, but it doesn't hurt much anymore, not like it had. He gives her a grin.]
Thanks, Korra.

Just your leg, right? [She couldn't help but return the grin as she stood up.]
Any time, and don't run. I don't think you'll be able to, but just in case you get the crazy idea. Keep the thermos- er, the cup. I'll pick it up next time. [She can't resist, and tousles his hair. A brave boy doing the right thing, she's taking a shine to him.]
If you're ever in the Earth Sector, I'll be volunteering at the Green Lantern clinic. Stop in and I can check up on you there too.

[He has no idea how long he was in a coma for after all. The hair ruffle catches him a bit off guard, not entirely used to people being overly friendly of any sort. The most he gets is a clap on the back from Gobber, or at least that was how it was before he began succeeding in dragon training.]
Earth Sector. Right, okay. I guess one of these days I'll get out and start finding my way around.

[A smirk.]
You’ll know this place like the back of your hand before long. Trust me. [She patted his shoulder before turning to leave.]
Use the network if you need anything else. Me or someone else will help out. [They're good about that stuff.]
