[Ororo's decked out in the cloths she arrived in back during the festival, only she's fresh off her 'shift' of the day.]

Okay, so the whole anti-Foreigner thing aside, some of these kedan guys seem nice. I guess.

[They haven't freaked out at her for her hair or eyes, for one thing, but she's not totally convinced.]

But, can I get a second opinion on the job thing? There's a bunch of us that've been here long enough to know if it's a sham or not. [She leans back in her chair, bracing her boots against the edge of her desk, running her fingers through her hair.]

Look, last time I had to do a few hours "work" -- [She brackets the word with finger quotes.] -- for secure room and board really didn't work for me or my friends. [Weapon X project, she's looking at you.] I just want to make sure that kind of mess is never going to happen again.

[The deputising was bad enough, thx.]

I mean, am I busting my ass for nothing? [She scratches the side of her neck.] Worse, am I doing it to help some cause that I don't have half a clue about?

[She shrugs up a shoulder.] If it's about making money, I know better ways to do it than a nine to five.

I guess we'd have to wait to see if someone who doesn't work gets kicked out of their suite.

It may not be the best way, but at least we are getting paid in something tangible? [it's not just 'work for board that may or may not be taken away at any moment']

Yeah, I guess. But what if it turns out all our work's secretly funding some sort of communist conspiracy or fascist dictator?

Is there really enough of us to be funding anything? And I mean, if you look at the costs to build and maintain our suites, it doesn't seem like it'd be worth it just for extra labour?

I don't know. Maybe we're some sort of pet project or something?

I dunno. I mean, there's this big thing that people are talking about, some job the Emperor brought us here for.

If it's true, I guess it makes sense to keep us happy by housing us, but to make sure we don't get complacent. [It sounds like idle speculation, as if this is the first real thought Steph has given to it.]

[That catches her attention.]

You hear anything about what kind of job that is?

Not really? I've just heard a couple mention it in passing, I think it was the answer she gave when people asked her why she brought us here.

Nice. [Sarcasm, she has it. Ororo blows out a sigh.] So we're here for a purpose, but we have to figure out what it is. This reads like a bad kung fu movie.

Pretty much sums it up, yeah.

And I'm okay with that if we're the good guys. [Because the good guys always win in the movies.]

Yeah, but we won't find out that part until it's too late. [She lets out a huff of air, but then the corner of her mouth curls up a half degree.] So, that makes this a detective movie about karate?

Sounds like it. [That is pretty much her life, lbr]

Maybe there's a way we can get a peek at the script.

That'd beat reaching the end and finding out that we were Colonel Mustard it the Library with the candlestick. I'm stumped on how to spoil myself on real life. What kind of options do we have?

I'd take being Miss Scarlet, but I get your point.

[Steph gives that question some thought, although she's mostly just considering what's sensible to say over the network.]

There's gotta be people other than the Emperor that know, but I've got no idea who.
