I don't know if it would make things easier. Honestly, I don't know if it even matters anymore. [She's quiet for a moment.] I'm a goddess. Sort of. Like my spirit is one of Selene's daughters, but I was born to mortal parents, so I'm mortal. [Yeah, it's as confusing as it sounds.] Anyway, the Daughters of the Moon - other girls like me - we were fighting this thing called the Atrox. It... It was the most evil thing in existence. He kind of changed my fate. I mean I think I was probably always like this weird Daughter of Pandora thing, but he made my fate so that I would be the one that would destroy hope, in the end.

[Frank frowns a bit at the 'born to mortals' part because it's a bit confusing, but he doesn't stop her. He's a son of Mars and a legacy of Poseidon which aren't even on the same pantheon of gods so what does he know about weird?

When she ends though... his lips tighten, trying to come up with the right answer. He doesn't have one.] Like a prophecy of some sorts?

It's a good question, but she shakes her head.] There was no prophecy about me. [It might seem weird, but she tugs her shirt down a little bit by the collar until Frank can see the tattoo near her heart.] It's the fate that was woven for me. It was originally done by me and Selene, but the Fates... They didn't like that I had changed what was written by them. So they rewove it. I was born to be destructive.

[He nods as if he understood even though he only gets like half of it. He knows who the fates are even if he'd have called them Parcae, but in their lore they were never good news. They weren't outright evil, they were just simply a bad omen.

To defy them like she claims to have done is unthinkable.] If you rewrote what the Fates wrote once, can't you do it again?

[She shakes her head.] The first time I did it was like in a ritual, and I'd been tricked into it by my mentor. I thought it was just a protection spell.

[He makes a face- he hadn't expected a different answer or an easy solution, but still.]

I'm sure you'll find a way to change that fate. Maybe we'll even be able to help you? I haven't been in camp for long but Annabeth and Percy have been there for years, maybe they know of a way...

[There's a beat before she smiles softly.] You don't defeat fate, Frank. That's what I learned. They said I would use my gifts was destruction, and I did do that. I just focused my anger on something that deserved it.

[He wrinkles his nose, a habit he didn't know he had until he'd found himself in this body. He's trying to understand, he really is- but Vanessa's story is both so similar and so different from the things his team has faced that it's honestly kind of confusing.]

Well, that's a way to deal with fate I get. I said that if I had to burn, I might as well be bright... [he shrugs] guess it's the same idea? I'd still like to help, Vanessa.

You might as well be an explosion, in that case. [Not that Vanessa really gets what he's talking about. This is a metaphor, right? Are we speaking about burning metaphorically?] Thanks, Frank. I don't know if it's anything other people can help me with.

[He opens his mouth, then closes it. He hasn't really talked about his fate with anyone, not since Hazel disappeared and took the piece of wood with her. It's terrifying to have your life depend on something so easily gone, but it's even more terrifying when you don't even have it around.]

I'm... there's this log. This piece of wood, a prophecy says I will die when it burns completely. When I found out about my own fate I was scared, so scared I couldn't even look at fire- so scared I still can't even visit the fire sector.

But then I shared it with Hazel... and I was scared, but it suddenly wasn't so bad?
