[ For a moment, the video appears to be stuck, as if in pause. The girl looking slightly askew of the camera is very still, and only the faint flutter of wind disturbing the bits of dark baby-hair sticking out from the top of her head indicates that the feed is, in fact, perfectly fine--
--and then, she snaps out of it, face gaining back it's animation and she blows her cheeks out, follows it up with a deep breath and nods. ]
So, uh.
Right.
[ Her hands come up in a sort of surrender, sort of awkward 'Hi, this is me' because wow this is weird, video calls when she is in her pajamas. Her salt-water-soaked-but-nevertheless-now-dry pajamas.
It is not comfortable. She doesn't mind Skyping with friends while dressed in her bedtime clothes, but wow, not like this.
She shakes her head, runs her fingers through her hair and huffs: ]
Okay let me start over.
[ The change is subtle, but the difference is huge. Shoulders straightened but not tense, she looks directly into the camera with purpose and suddenly it doesn't matter what she looks like. ]
Hello, my name is Katherine Bishop and I've just arrived in the city.
I've been appraised by the people who fished me out of the water on what little they seem to feel they can divulge, so you can consider this a shout-out to anyone who can supply me information that will give me a better idea of Turtle Land.
I haven't seen the city much, but I'm a keen observer and no stranger to tension in the atmosphere when I see it.
[ There's a brief and considering pause before she continues in a less blunt tone that leans more to negotiation. ] I have currently nothing to trade with or pay you by for the information and I know I don't really look like much at the moment, but I guarantee that I can offer you my resume and list of skillsets if you require all of that in writing.
[ A beat.] Also, if there is anyone from home out there who sees this, please drop me a message. I'm not even going to lie, guys. It would be awesome to see familiar faces right about now. [ There's a faint twitch of a smile at the corner of her mouth before she reaches over and the feed goes dark. ]

[ awkward laugh ] Sorry, sorry. It's just... I get the whole alternate universe thing, one of my f-- [ she stops, the word friend painfully awkward on her tongue when her thoughts turn to Iron Lad -- the boy who had once been her teammate ] erm, someone I knew was a... time traveler.
But yeah. [ she shakes her head ] I've clearly put my foot in my mouth with Mr. Barnes up there, and I'll just [ lifts a hand as she ducks her head and manages an... awkward... no Kate that is not a salute and buries her face in her hands before peeking back up ]
Can I start over with the introductions... erm, Mr. Ro-- [ and because she gets flashback of an old kids' show she settles for ] Captain.

And it's a pleasure to meet you... again? Ish? [ shakes head with a smile ] I think I should have just stopped at 'it's nice to meet you' so let's forget anything additional that came after that.
[ and because she is just the Queen of Running Her Mouth ] You smile more than he does. I think most the time he was looking at me and my friends in exasperation.

He was sort of a... mentor figure, you might say. [ and because she doesn't see any harm in owning up to it ] Are you familiar with uh, The Avengers? [ she's a little uncertain about asking it, because she's not sure how far along he is in his timeline ] If you are, we were uh, sort of the Junior Edition.
[ small, shy smile]

Who else is on your team? [No, he's not making a big deal out of it. He knows Rikki does the world-saving thing, knows Steph is Batgirl - he might not like the idea of people that young putting themselves in harm's way, but he'd rather they be well-trained if they feel the need to do it themselves.]

Oh wow. That hasn't been very long overall. [ there's a considering pause ] I'd probably get smacked on the back of the head for using this word but... the Avengers are sort of an... institution? A tradition? Well, they're pretty well-established back home. Roster's pretty much like a grocery list gone wild, to be honest.
There are [ she shakes her head ] were, seven of us. Two girls, five boys. [ because Vision -- Jonas, identified as male and she respected that. There's a little twinge when she thinks on how there's not much of a team left, but she glosses over whatever sad may have crossed her features and offers Steve a smile instead. She doesn't think he'd feel too great about knowing that two of her team are dead. Cap tended to be touchy about stuff like that. ] I hope you don't mind me using our codenames, sir. We had a thing about keeping our identities as secret as possible back home.
[ She counts off: ] Patriot, Wiccan, Hulkling, Vision and Speed for the guys. And then Stature and me.
