[when it clicks on, have a face full of dirty red headed kid. She looks absolutely delighted by the fact that the console works, and her words seal the deal]

Holy shit, this thing really works?! This is so fucking cool! So, I turned this on and everyone else can hear me, right? This thing’s like a mass phone call or… Oh, wait. Is this what it was like being on TV?

[she pulls out a book from her backpack]

Well, I’m reading a book about anti- gravity… It’s impossible to put down. Pfff. Okay, okay, I won’t read my good ol’ pun book to everyone, but if you ever need a joke, let me know.

Also, I’m looking for someone. His name’s Joel, he’s kind of older, brown hair, talks with a pretty thick Texas accent.

And if anyone knows where I can find a bunch of books in English, that’d be awesome. Last place I went to, they were all in this fucking weird script! No good if you wanna actually read something, you know?

[she seems pleased at the laugh. She's glad that others were more relaxed here and they could appreciate her jokes. It made things a little bit easier]

I like to read, and everything I have to read I've read at least 20 times. So, what's a girl to do when she's on a turtle's back in a world that hasn't gone to shit?

But I can't read anything.

[pbbbt, she scrunches her face up in disapproval]

Define 'gone to shit'. Because every other Tuesday I'd say this place definitely qualifies.

Well, everything's in ruins... a lot of people are infected with a fungus that pretty much makes them monsters... and then everyone else actually are monsters.

[... Give him a second, he sort of rears back from the video feed and gives her a Look at that... casual discussion of creepy zombie alien fungi creatures. Because that's normal, or something. But it's obvious she doesn't want to dwell on it, so he doesn't push. He'll ask later, though, don't you fret.]

-- Dumas? Seriously, never heard of him? He wrote The Three Musketeers?

Books are kind of scarce, and there's only so much room in my backpack.

[she appears to be thinking, but nope, the recognition doesn't come to her about who Dumas exactly is. Damn, and she'd thought she was pretty well read before.

Hell, maybe she was. But there sure as hell were a lot of authors she'd never heard of.]

He's a great author, I seriously can't believe you've never heard of him. I've got a digital copy on my PADD, you want it?

What's a PADD? Sounds fancy as hell. But yeah, I asked for books. I'm gonna take it! Just because I don't know him doesn't mean I won't read him.

[He squints a little as he considers how to explain it.]

It's basically a tablet. I'll show you how it works and you can just borrow it, as long as I get it back eventually.
