[Booker's looking a little awkward today - probably because instead of questions or demands, he's just got...well, maybe an announcement to make? Either way, he's just more aware of the fact that this network thing is a pretty public platform and Booker DeWitt? Is no public speaker.

So he clears his throat.]

So, uh. Some of you've been saying you're in need of food? And we've got an abundance of it here. Elizabeth's doing her best to feed me up, I guess, and I can't eat all of it myself. I'm out and about making deliveries most every day as it is, I can always bring some leftovers around with me too.

[He scratches the back of his neck, then glances off to the side and holds up a bright red knitted scarf.]

We may have a number of these, soon, too. [His look is rather confused, like 'is this normal?' Or possibly, 'help me!' And then he turns the feed off.]

Not really. I was hired to find a girl, rowed up the coast of Maine, dropped off at a lighthouse, and I kinda stumbled into it. Didn't have a lot to go on, but it wasn't an accident.

[It's pretty tough even where Booker's from, oops. Holes in his memory.]

[He's 100% sure you left a lot of stuff out there, Booker.]

That girl would be Elizabeth, yes? She spoke quite highly of you.

[Whatever, Booker didn't leave out anything important! That he knows about.]

Yeah, that's her. Guess it's good she's not bad-mouthin' me. [Not that he would blame her.]

She doesn't seem to be the sort of person to badmouth anyone.

[He won't go into the details of what she told him, just in case Booker didn't already know what he means to her.]

She's not afraid to speak her mind, though. [He knows this from experience.]

She's smarter'n I'll ever be, but she's got a soft heart, and she's got a lot to learn about the world.

[He smiles sincerely.]

I don't think a 'soft heart' is a bad thing. She was very kind to me.

[His smile fades, though.] But she did tell me she was very sheltered growing up.

[He's understating it, just in case she didn't whole 'I lived in a tower and look I can open tears in reality' thing out in the open.]

It might not be bad, but the softer somethin' is, the easier it is to damage.

[His face darkens a little, remembering Fitzroy, and the look on Elizabeth's face. Covered in blood, looking as horrified as Booker's ever seen a person. It still eats away at him, that memory.

Maybe it's funny, that after killing so many people himself, it's one he didn't even commit that bothers him so. But he is a killer, and has been for a long time. It's not something he wants for the girl.]

I don't know what things are like in your world, but mine? Mine is hardest on the soft ones.

[Chekov looks away from the camera.

Guess who's used to being coddled, treated like he's soft. And maybe he is, a little.]

Sometimes the 'soft ones' are stronger than anyone realizes. Sometimes-- [he pauses]-- all they need is someone to believe in them.

I know exactly how strong she is.

[He's seen it - he's seen the things she's been put through, the things she's been forced to do. Things no one should ever have to deal with.]

Doesn't mean I'm gonna throw her to the wolves if I can help it. [As long as there's breath in his body, he'll try to protect her from the bad things, the dark things. Even if he is one of the dark things.]

It does not mean you should throw yourselves to the wolves either.

[He knows a self-sacrificing person when he sees one. And he knows what it's like to be on the other end of someone dying to save his life.]

I ain't plannin' on it if I can help it.

[Death isn't something he's looking for - he's not the type, even at his lowest, to actively seek it out. Besides, he can protect Elizabeth better if he's alive.]

[When exactly did he become the boss of this conversation?]
