So we just had Christmas celebrations so this would make today just about New Years Eve, right? Well, at least according to how things worked back home. Not exactly sure how that works on a giant turtle.

But anyway, it got me thinking about resolutions. Mostly I think resolutions are a lot of B.S. Everyone makes then, and then inevitably breaks them a week to a month later. I mean, the idea of resolutions is great, but I think people need to be less vague about them. Less "I'm going to lose weight this year" and more "I'll go to the gym twice a week" or something like that.

So. New Years. Resolutions. Any thoughts?

Also, any parties going on I could swing an invite to?

I don't know about any parties and even less sure about resolutions. I mean, they seem so binding, like a contract you write and sign yourself.

[There is a touch of amusement about it though, like he doesn't take his own words too seriously.]

And then all you're left with is personal guilt and shame when you fail to live up to it.

Exactly. And who wants to deal with that? Better to just keep expectations as low as possible and not be disappointed.

I guess if I had to make a resolution, it'd be to get back home, but I feel like that's just the group consensus so it shouldn't count. So, maybe work out more often? I'm not good at this really.

Well, that's a bit of a bleak way of looking at it. Just don't shoot for the moon and expect to land perfectly on the first go.

[There's a pause and a laughing snort.]

Nothin' wrong with a resolution, so's long as you see it through. That means you gotta work at it, not set some crazy high bar that you'll never reach.

[Jax is pretty clear with his words, but by his appearance, he's not about to resolve to hit the gym -- already does so. Daily. About his only resolution is to get the club back in action.

So set 'em realistically. Pick something ya do and work at it harder, or start at a level that ain't gonna blow your willpower out the window at the first Krispy Kreme that you drive past.

Yeah. That's what I was trying to get at. People need to make less lofty goals and settle on things that are feasibly achievable.

You mean asking about it? Mostly I'm just bored as hell and wanted to get some conversations going.

Unless you're asking if I've made any resolutions. In which case, no. I have not.

What's the point? Why wait until the new year to change your life?

I think people will be doing it until the end of time. Makes them feel better about themselves.

Maybe it's one of those "if everyone jumped off the bridge would you too?" situations.

Making yourself feel better about yourself isn't addressing the problem. Jumping off the bridge with the rest of the crowd might, but that would probably help the rest of us more than them.

Man, I haven't made a resolution in years. I think the last one I made, I was seven. I resolved to keep my room clean and that lasted a day.
