Hello..?

[Have yourself a twelve year old girl testing the water on the shiny new thing and mumbling to herself a little as she does.]

...I hope I'm doing this right.

[Oh right. The people can hear her. Sarah takes a deep breath and gets to talking.]

I uh, gotta say, this is some real crazy stuff going on. I don't even know where to start makin' sense of any of it. The Kedan people, the ones that work here? I think they work here. Live here? I dunno. They explained a lot of stuff but I'm still trying to wrap my head around even being here.

[Sarah pauses. When she speaks again it's with a little less certainty.]

Do they ever make mistakes with who they bring here? I'm not sure I'm the monster fighting type.

[Not real ones anyway.]

He still wears it.

[Tess can't help but tell her that - even though it probably is just one more indication of what the kid already knows. That he wears it to remember her.]

Somehow, I'm not surprised.

Seriously kid, quit while you're ahead.

[ But she seems to take the second part as a compliment. ]

Why? I look that polished, huh? I'm not going anywhere but it's always nice to look like I could!

Yeah, not every day you can say "I'm in a city on a living turtle". The freakiness of it will go down in a few days. [A small 'heh' comes out as he smiles a little.] If it helps, sometimes it's easy to forget you're even on a turtle.

O-okay.

[Being out after dark is a bizarre thought to Sarah, but she's eager to make this work. At worst, she'll be a little uneasy until she relaxes a bit.]

I mean. Okay! Do you want me to meet you anywhere or..?

[And Sarah can immediately guess why. Her face falls.]

...Oh.

[Nodding faintly, Sarah forces a smile. Focus on the good things, Sarah.]

Y-yeah. He was always complaining about the other one being broken so. I dunno.

[She'll let the height thing drop, but being called 'kid' just isn't working for her right now. Her next words are a little firmer than the last.]

My name is Sarah. Stop callin' me kid, will ya?

[And she relaxes. Sarah's not really one to get mad easily.]

Uh... okay. So you dress up all... like that just because? Isn't that a pain? How long does it take?

[That gets a giggle.]

Oh man, I can just imagine the look on my teachers face if I walked into class all "Hi Miss! On the weekend I woke up in a damn bowl of water in my pajamas. By the way, the bowl was on a turtle and the Emperor was all unhappy and stuff!"

[ She's still asking questions! This is about as awesome as winning an ice cream eating contest. Because it's, like, ice cream (which is already winning) and then actually winning on top of that! Yes! ]

Mmhmm! It's called Hundred Power. When I activate it my strength, speed, reflexes, senses, everything becomes a hundred times more powerful! Neat, huh?

[ Of course it only lasts a minute for him, but she doesn't need to know that... The point is to remain chronically cool in her eyes. ]

I can come to your quarters, if you want. Where are you going to be staying?

Hey, look. You hungry? How about if I drop by your suite here? I can bring you some clothes and food. That sound all right?

Nice to meet you, Sarah.

[Well the girl looks a lot better now than she did when she made her entry. Bryn exhales with relief and manages a more certain smile.]

I don't have anyone here from my home either but like you said, everyone's really friendly around here so if you need anything just holler, okay?

[She pauses a beat, not wanting to leave the conversation so short...]

You're from Earth, right?

Neat? Man, you really know how to understate things. That's AWESOME!

[Sarah beams at him and rests her chin on her hand.]

I so wish I had powers.

They gave me a place. It's a tree house, which is pretty cool.

[Just give her a second to find the right address to give.]

Uuhh... WO... 3A. Is that far from you?

[She takes a second or two to process what's asked and nods her head.]

That'd be great, Tess.

[Her smile turns a little more genuine. And then another question comes to mind.]

You uh... think you'll have anything that'll fit me?

Will do! Thanks Bryn!

[It's a little overwhelming how wonderful people have been. Sarah knows she got damn lucky, even with the whole being here. If she's going to be stuck in a bad situation, at least she's got allies.]

Yeah, I'm from Austin. In Texas. ...Earth. Dooo you know it?

[Bryn looks human enough, after all.]

Not very well - but it'll do until we can buy you something else. You should at least be able to walk into a shop without getting nasty looks.

Heh, yeah. Pajamas I could probably get away with. Maybe. But the blood's a bit much so... So. Okay! Thanks, Tess. I really appreciate it.

[And she should probably give directions to where she lives.]

I'm at WO-3A. That's not too far from you, is it?

[Honestly, Sarah hopes Tess is close by. There's something safe about the woman.]

Stuff's always happening, even if it's just small stuff.

And mine's Stocking. Don't be pissy about me not calling you by your name when you hadn't even given it to me yet.

Of course! There's no excuse for appearing like a slob in public and that includes these consoles. It's not much trouble for me, since I'm starting with such a good beginning!

[ Annie is quiet just a moment, assessing. When she speaks this time, there's a certain obvious consideration in how she picks her words. ]

When it stops being scary, something's gone wrong. Fear isn't a reason to rule anything out.

Thanks Mr. Barnes. That's damn good to know.

[Until corrected otherwise, she'll keep her manners.]

Um... have you been here long?

Yup. Cool. I'll seeya then!

You didn't give me a chance. You were too busy callin' me short.

[But she'll let it drop. Sarah huffs and focuses on the rest of what's being said. As Stocking continues, Sarah glances down at her own clothes; pajamas with a nice big blood stain on the front and leans a little forward to hide the fact.]

What if you don't have a choice and that not fancy looking thing is all you've got?

[That was not the response Sarah expected. The girl stares a moment, knowing full well that Annie isn't your typical person.]

...Where'd you come from?

[There's just something in her manner that makes her want to ask, and even then her words are a little hushed.]
