( diana is seated at one of the consoles in a café when the video feed begins. it seems she’s already gone a bit native—there’s a kedan-style cloak draped around her shoulders, apparently all she needs to keep warm. still, the glint of gold from her armor is perfectly visible, as is the tiara set amongst her dark curls. she’s making no pretense of who she is, should anyone be able to recognize her.

she lifts a hand in simple greeting, smiling. she’s perfectly calm, though anyone who knows her well can probably sense just a bit of tension in the set of her shoulders, the way her eyes are focused. )

There’s many of you here that I know. And many more that I do not.

My name is Diana, and while I’m newly arrived I believe I’ve gotten most of the basics of the situation. It seems you’ve all been busy, recently.

( there’s nothing mocking about her words, and her smile is genuine and honest. she pauses, for a moment, as though to give her audience a breather. then, she continues— )

I’m sure there’s a lot to be done, and I’m willing to offer my assistance to anyone who should need it. But first, I would like to be better acquainted with all of you. If we’ve met before, I’m sure you’ll come and say hello. And if we haven’t, it’s never too soon for introductions.

( both before and after this broadcast and subsequent conversations, diana will be flying over the same café. in effect, she’s using herself as a beacon. feel free to run into her in person if you’d prefer. )

I tend to prefer transparency, in general. I guess that's just the soldier in me talking. I have to file mission reports all the time. Secrecy is usually the mark of a shady operation in my world.

And here, well. We're all stuck in this one spot, there are only maybe two hundred of us altogether. A lot of us have unusual abilities and powers. Seems like a lot of effort for no particular reason, in a place like this.

There are enough complications, back in our world, that people would feel uncomfortable letting down that guard even somewhere else. Not to mention that enemies from our world could show up here.

It's not a perfect system, but we each navigate it as best we can.

If this place is different, then so much the better.

This place is pretty different from everything I know, that's for sure.

[She studies the woman across the feed for a moment.]

I take it you're not human, then, since you talked about the "Man's World". Or is that an impertinent question to ask?

[mythically]

Not at all.

I'm an Amazon. My sisters and I live away from the greater part of Earth--our home is called Themyscira, and it cannot be found by traditional means.

So you're an all-female race?

[Gosh you're just like the asari! Except you're not blue.]

Many of us either came from Man's World or have lived there, but yes. On Themyscira there are only women.

Interesting. There's a mono-gendered species in my world, though they... don't look so human.

[mythically]

Really? Would you tell me about them?

[cmdreffingshepard]

Well, they're called asari. They look mostly human, except for the blue skin and instead of hair they have, erm... [Shepard sort of reaches up and touches the top of her head as she grasps for some way to describe it.] I think it's something like cartilage? Some people think it looks like tentacles, but that's not what it is.

Anyway, they're extremely long-lived, and they don't reproduce sexually, from what I understand. I'm no xenobiologist, though.

[mythically]

It's a shame, that. _{( what's she referring to? she just trusts shepard to guess. )}

My world is still working out the kinks in our encounters with other species. But I'd like to think we're getting better.

[cmdreffingshepard]

Well, they still can have sex. [Snort.]

I don't think all the kinks are ever worked out. The best you can hope for is... amicable relations, I guess.

But I probably shouldn't talk - in my world, humanity introduced itself to the rest of the galaxy by almost starting a war.

[mythically]

Humanity tends toward explosive impressions. Even when they aren't trying to.

But almost is better than actually.

[cmdreffingshepard]

We call it a war. But most of the rest of the galaxy doesn't see it that way.

[She shrugs.] Every species, every culture, is unique. It's our diversity that makes us so strong - in my world, anyway.

[mythically]

In any world, I'd think.

I would hope, anyway. But there will always be some with a superiority complex.

[Like the Reapers. If they even count.]

They always end up looking foolish, in the end. It's just making sure they don't cause too much damage before then that's the concern.

Or worse. The fools are the easy ones to deal with.
