I hope those displaced from the Earth Sector fire have found a place to stay until the suites can be rebuilt or new homes. Fortunately, it looks as if the damage was contained before it spread too far. I think this situation is exactly the sort of thing a council for us ‘foreigners’ would be good for, and I mean in the sense of checking the damages, injuries, and helping people find temporary lodgings.

[Not necessarily hunting down perpetrators. And she has her suspicions on what might have started it, but that is not going out publicly. So on a different note!]

Though we can all understand the spoken word and each other here, I’ve found that’s not the case with the written. I’ve started making efforts to crack the kedan language, as it were, but there’s very little to help along these lines. Picking up words on signs is one thing, but a grasp of the grammar and structure is another.

Has anyone else been trying to do the same? I’m not sure much more will be possible unless we find the kedan version of a Rosetta Stone, to be honest.

Quite the observation. You must know some military men or women already.

Luckily, we usually have a translator.

I've met a few. You just have that posture and confidence.

[She grins a little bit] Everyone must carry themselves a certain way. Civilians do so quite differently from soldiers.

[Smiles back] That's true. What do you do in the military, if I may ask? I know you probably can't give me details.

So long as gestures don't have different meanings. The outcome could prove dangerous above innocent.

Intelligence work and special forces.

Luckily, I've avoided that so far. Then again, I'm usually just asking where the bathroom is.

Cool. Is that what you've always wanted to do in the military?

[She tilts her head in amusement] It's a little hard to make a mistake there, it's true.

I knew from quite a young age that I wanted to military work. The exact nature of what came later.

[...she doesn't necessarily mind talking about this. The kid's young, and she's used to people questioning why the military in a more negative tone.]

Was it because you wanted to travel?

[Pshh he actually doesn't have any issues with the military. Actually they're allies to superheroes back home. Well. Most are.]

Not exactly. My father was a soldier.

[It's less military issues and more woman in the military why issues. Which she's half surprised about the lack of - but she doesn't get the same reaction via people from the future.]

And you wanted to follow in his footsteps? I get it.

[Yeah, the future's nice that way. Plus, women serving in the military-slash-being superheroes is a non-issue where he's from. They're heroes and they deserve respect, same as anyone else.]

A little, but doing my own thing was important as well.

[Peggy loves worlds like that she really does. The future is good that way.]

It's important, I think, to find your own place in the world, as best you can, with your own aspirations.

No problem. I know people associated with the newspaper too. If nothing else, they'll probably be covering the election.

[He's very grateful for that. Being treated like a child gets very frustrating after awhile.]
