It has been brought to my attention that my choice of vocabulary and diction is considered...unnecessarily formal by some.

I have made several attempts to alter my speech patterns, but have realized that I still lack a more concise understanding of what precisely entails formal versus familiar speech. Therefore, I am seeking any an all information regarding more colloquial expressions or terms that may be used in everyday conversation, which I will do my best to learn and subsequently employ accordingly.

So how do you determine who's the enemy to fight?

Those who are seeking to cause harm, or worse, to innocents.

Those who threaten any individual under our protection.

But, most obviously...those who attack first.

Alright then, so how do you know who is or isn't innocent?

I agree the term can be highly subjective, yes.

However...for example, all those who are currently under the threat of this great being we must name are considered the innocents, and must be protected. That is why we are here.

Makes sense. If you look at it that way, it seems pretty clear-cut. At least in this situation.

If one pays close attention and attempts to gather as much intel as possible, he or she may be surprised how often similar situations present themselves.

[Of course, this applies moreso to battles of a significantly larger scale. Declarations of war. Attacks on entire planets. Personal grudges where motives and lives were on the line.]

Is that part of what you do personally then?

Not intentionally, no.

We do what we do because it is right. It is only when the enemy choses to make the battle personal that it becomes so.

Is it unusual to desire justice in the universe?

Generally speaking? Yes. A lot of people can't even muster up the ability to desire justice for their own people.

Thad has not been my experience in my travels.

You must not deal with a lot of politicians then.

On various planets, I believe they refer to themselves as royalty.

Them too. I'm not saying you never meet a good one. It's not that farfetched to find one that doesn't have any justice in their hearts for their own people though.

There was an individual named Ragnar who sought nothing more than power for himself, even at the cost of his own sister.

However, not only was he unqualified to rule his people as he so claimed, he was not even the rightful heir. It was his sister, Iolande, who inherited a Green Lantern ring and chose to remain on her planet because it was where she was needed most. No matter what her own personal desires may have been.

[Mai seems to take that in, her apathetic expression softening some.]

I wonder if she regrets that.

I cannot say for certain.

However, I believe she would make the same decision were circumstances to repeat themselves. It is her nature.
