[ Look who's not cranky today? Someone's enjoying the heat (though less the humidity) like any desert-born. ]
So who do I have to bribe to keep the turtle on this trajectory?
[ The remark is followed by a loud mental burst of DO NOT WANT from Emily-Helen, to which the thief laughs and amends: ]
Just for a few more months.
[ Other turtle parents or anyone the hatchlings feel like talking to may get the sense of an unhappy wail. ]

The heat's bad for the turtles. Something you SHOULD care about.

[It's an idle sort of comment, half amused and half resigned and almost wholly absent as he's writing by the console with Marcy's head on his knees. Yes, she's whining. Yes, he's ignoring her.
[He's also actually dressed down to his waist-coat, and the humidity is making his curls spring up like woah.]

[She shrugs. Winces a little, glances at something over her shoulder and out of view that's probably a turtle. A few moments later she looks back.] And I rather think you'd have a small chelonian riot on your hands.
The temperature aside, however, there's something I meant to ask you. Do you know of any accessible places below the surface of the shell?

The babies don't like it, but it's just like home for me.
[NO! thinks Rio'era, and Jackie winces a little at the vehemence.]
