[ Guess who's been out of jail for a couple weeks now? He also can't believe he has to make this post again, because he's starting to think that damned ledger is haunted, and that's coming from someone who is literally haunted. ]

Penny's gone, which means I'm down an employee. Whoever wants the fastest trick out of this place and can count, congratulations you have a job.

[ Despite the Dojo's mostly-fixed state following the hurricane, it hasn't been opened since, and today Bakura's elected to at least make that official. ]

The Jade Dojo will be staying closed for the rest of this month. If that's inconvenient... I really don't care.

[ Contrary to the indifferent words, he doesn't seem angry or even annoyed at anything, certainly not to the level of closing the doors for a while. ]

There are a few other places you can use in the meantime.

[ The console displays the addresses for two other gym-like establishments -- one in the Fire Sector and one in Earth -- that are kedan-run and while both smaller than the Dojo, are certainly serviceable. ]

[ Following the aftermath of this, and after an aggravated tirade at one unconscious form of I told you so the whole way back into the city, a thoroughly harassed-sounding Bakura keys up the radio handsets. ]

Valdis is unavailable for the immediate and foreseeable future. Yes, I know what happened and yes, I warned her of the risks beforehand.

There is a reason the phrase is 'know thyself'.

[ private to Raine and Fletch; ]

Seba-rekhet, senwinaw, I don't know which of your skills will be better suited, but if one or both of you could reassemble her, that would be fine.

[ Grouchy thief seems extra grouchy today. ]

Does anyone want a short ticket home, because apparently hiring anyone to do the Dojo's paperwork is a guaranteed way to disappear from this place.

[ He managed to lose not one, but both of his bookkeepers inside a week. ]

And why does it feel like the damned turtle has stalled?

[ While this isn't the first time Bakura's been on the console looking like he's been in a fight, this might be the most indignant he's ever looked about it. Some absently wiped cuts have made a few streaks of blood against pale skin, and those are going to be some spectacular bruises later. ]

Is this the Dreaming's doing, or is someone here once again messing around with what they shouldn't be?

It seems-- [ aggravated sarcasm ] --that it isn't enough where alternate versions of ourselves can show up in this city. Now it's ourselves, from past or future, and mine decided he did not approve of what he is to become.

private to Pepper, Raine, Valdis

Be warned: he took the Ring. Well meaning as it might be, don't try to take it back from him unless you intend to keep it. My--

[ pause; voice is carefully, exactingly neutral ]

The ghosts are also responding more strongly to him at the moment, than to me.

[ around; ]

[ Both Bakuras can be run into throughout the city, one searching for the other, and the newer arrival still trying to figure out exactly what the hell is going on. They both look alike and yet don't... it's kind of jarring, and yet there's no mistaking. TKB replies will come from [personal profile] diaboundthief ]

I've been paying Enjolras to keep the paperwork for the Jade Dojo in order, because frankly I can't be bothered to do it myself. He's left Keeliai now, and I haven't gained any new incentive to take it up.

[ He considered adding more to that; Enjolras had been here a long time, far longer than Bakura has been. Ultimately, he decides to keep it succinct. ]

If that's something you can do competently once or twice a week, say so here.
denyamenti: (in which I may be walking now)
[personal profile] denyamenti
[ Bakura doesn't often initiate network posts, but he doesn't know if anyone else will think to make this particular announcement. He's indoors at an Earth Sector cafe, by the background behind him and the mug in front of him. Outside the windows over his shoulder, the fog is thick and dense. ]

One: Seto Kaiba has left Tu Vishan. I don't know what projects he was working on, but you'll need to reassign them.

Two: I take it everyone by now has noticed that this fog plays down more than just visibility. I don't suppose anyone cares to speculate why?
denyamenti: (as if all the streams of the world)
[personal profile] denyamenti
[ Set the day after Valdis' vision hits all the Foreigners, but Bakura doesn't address it, instead appearing slightly bored. ]

Anyone else feel like getting paid to keep records? I was paying that Accelerator kid to do them for the dojo, but he's disappeared. I can do them, but they're boring as hell, so I'd rather not.

However if you'd feel compelled to ask where every deposit comes from, don't bother volunteering. Sometimes you're just going to have to write in, "sudden windfall" and leave it at that.
denyamenti: (flashes afar on the wayward stream)
[personal profile] denyamenti
[ For all he likes to snark comment on other people's posts, Bakura hardly makes any of his own, and as such, this is the first one in several months.

He's sporting an impressive bruise on one side of his face, and looking suitably rumpled. There are also small traces of wispy black shadow clinging to him, and to the edge of the video frame, all of which he ignores. ]

Dojo's closed for today and tomorrow. Hebnay, sefatjiw, you can pick up your pay on the weekend instead.
denyamenti: (shadow does not carry sword or spear)
[personal profile] denyamenti
[ Bakura doesn't seem like a person who just lost a hatchling turtle. There's no evidence of lack of sleep or absence of focus... if anything, the thief looks equal parts busy and, as usual, antagonistic. ]

It's about time this place got interesting once again.

Has anyone bothered to ask the kedan whether they're happy to be out from under the yoke of tyrants? Other than that of the Foreigners, of course. Eshai at least had some sat-khert ib... but Evandau was just a waste of breath.

Though I suppose if we're trying for the trifecta of terrible rulers, we could always crown Malic--

[ Before he completes the name, jagged static begins to creep along the corners of the console screen that is visible to he and the viewers alike. Bakura stops, studying it for a moment. Then a sly grin appears and he speaks again, though this time it doesn't seem to be addressed to the Foreigners listening to the broadcast. ]

Hm, I knew you hadn't gone very far. What do we get if we guess where you really are?
denyamenti: (even when we’re down to the wire)
[personal profile] denyamenti
[ The video feed opens with not one Bakura but two, the first standing central to the screen and the other offset to the side and whose nervous posture indicates he's still trying to slide even farther away. Separately it would be easy to call them identical but side by side, there are differences; slight but present. The voice is the biggest giveaway though, as Bakura's bears almost nothing of Ryou's accent. ]

Pay attention:

There are, as you can see, actually two of us. I'm the one who thinks you're all expendable idiots and treats you accordingly, not him. So taking your anger at me out on the new arrival here without listening to him merely proves my point.

For those of you whom I so easily fooled by calling myself "Ryou"? This is the real one, so go... make friends or something.

[ At that, Ryou offers an awkward wave at the console screen. ]

[ OOC: Takes place following this post. Replies will come from both/either of them, unless specifically marked private to one or the other. If anyone wishes to query Emily-Helen about this via their hatchling, she will confirm there are indeed two! If a little confused about why they're very similar. ]
denyamenti: (ah when the ghost begins to quicken)
[personal profile] denyamenti
[ Look who's not cranky today? Someone's enjoying the heat (though less the humidity) like any desert-born. ]

So who do I have to bribe to keep the turtle on this trajectory?

[ The remark is followed by a loud mental burst of DO NOT WANT from Emily-Helen, to which the thief laughs and amends: ]

Just for a few more months.

[ Other turtle parents or anyone the hatchlings feel like talking to may get the sense of an unhappy wail. ]

[personal profile] denyamenti
[ He uses text because it's the only way to format this how he wants, and switches it to anonymous out of habit from months posting as Shen before realizing that anonymous doesn't work right now -- then decides, screw it, and doesn't care.

The text is drawn out in neat boxes of letters, with English on the top and the two most common (of the 17) kedan dialects laid out to correspond with them focusing on core words with common letterings, using a phonetic legend he attaches a simple file to assign kedan characters to English equivalents. The whole thing is approached as a cryptogram might be but for those who can read kedanese, it is accurate and it might provide a new way of tackling the native's complicated language, especially if someone were to extrapolate this through a computer program. ]

[ He keeps it short and to the point, audio only for the chance that someone might respond with decent advice before they realize by his voice who they're talking to. ]

How does one go about undoing a sudden interest in guardianship that a certain shelled someone seems to have found in me?

[ Someone's been trying to ignore Emily-Helen's insistent mental summons of her new papa, and it's getting to a point where it's becoming near-impossible to hear himself think over her in his head --and he's used to some pretty chatty ghosts already stuck up in there. ]
denyamenti: (eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly)
[personal profile] denyamenti
[ While he's purposely activated the console, "Ryou"'s attention seems to be directed offscreen towards the windows, specifically at the black fog that's slowly rolling into the city. ]

Is anyone... ah, I mean... I know there are people here with magic. Is this something that's-- supposed to happen? Thank goodness it isn't coming inside but... what's going on?
denyamenti: (on the morrow lay withered and strown)
[personal profile] denyamenti
I know this might be a bit of a strange request, with this being such an unfamiliar place to all of us but I find that I've really been missing attending school. Is there somewhere in the city where... that would accept a Foreigner as a student?

[ Because this is just the sort of mundane thing his host would be focused on; Bakura could almost count on his host's predictability. And while he had not quite completely written off the possibility of Ryou's actual presence here, pretending to be the teen still served him well and the persona needed to be seamlessly maintained for as long as the thief deemed it beneficial for him. ]

It's just... so very odd feeling, not to have homework or anything.

[ He laughs a little, as though sheepish of the admission. ]

Not that I've been bored, the work at the dojo has been very enjoyable! I just haven't much to fill my time when I'm not there.

[ Yes, Bakura thinks. That sounds suitably boring and unassuming. ]
denyamenti: (on the morrow lay withered and strown)
[personal profile] denyamenti
[ Bakura's drawing on every relevant mannerism of his host and thus "Ryou" on screen looks distressed and hesitant, his voice wavering slightly before he clears his throat and speaks. ]

I'm very sorry if this is, ah, inappropriate from someone who is a very new arrival to this city. But, in light of the Emperor's tragic death--

[ a moment of flawlessly feigned unsurety and he looks flustered ]

-- or, um... murder. I don't mean to make light of it! That is, I was wondering if... someone should organize a memorial, or-- or the like. I've noticed some of the kedan doing small things? I didn't have the opportunity to speak to her but... I just thought perhaps it would be respectful.
denyamenti: (rolled not the breath of his pride)
[personal profile] denyamenti
[ The face that greets console users this morning is offering a polite smile, laced with a touch of sheepishness as though he feels that he is troubling them by asking questions. ]

Everyone I've spoken to so far has been very helpful but I wonder if anyone had time for a few more questions? Has anyone here heard of a game called "Duel Monsters"? Or know of such companies as KaibaCorp, or Industrial Illusions?

Another thing, I've noticed quite a bit of... well, fire around the residence they've assigned me. It's like nothing I've ever seen before, not being hot at all. It's almost as though it's-- ah, it seems silly to say, forgive me. But it's rather like magic in stories, isn't it?

[ He seems embarrassed to bring it up, looking pensively away from the screen but continues after a moment. ]

Though, I suppose given everything that's happened here... perhaps it's not so strange?
