[ Akito is just tired enough and fed up enough ~~and stupid enough~~ to think that maybe actually asking Malicant for answers to some questions might be a good idea. I mean, the worst that could happen is... probably pretty bad, so he won't think about it (though he did plan for the possibility of being incapacitated), but there's always a chance that they might actually get a few answers. Which would be pretty awesome. And Akito believes himself to be disposable enough for it to be worth the risk.

... And Tony doesn't, which is why he's stuck doing this in an unoccupied residential building with Tony insisting on being his back-up, and Tony's boyfriend insisting on being his backup. ]

Gene's been trying to keep this to himself, but he just can't take it anymore. The curiosity is killing him.

Akito levels him with an incredulous look. Whether it's from Gene not knowing what they are in the first place or the question itself is yet to be known.

Tony stifles a snicker. Between Gene's bewilderment, Akito's indignant response, and the emoticons themselves, Tony is already having a hard time taking this Serious Endeavor very seriously.

"Yeah, Gene. What's the matter with you?" he says, with a teasing grin.

"...why are we using cute emoticons to talk to our foe?"

Y'all need Turtle Jesus.

"It's more polite than antagonizing him."

"Plus, think of how funny it'll be if he sends emoticons back."

Gene just sighs and rolls his eyes. Careful, Gene, they'll get stuck that way!

"Do you think an ancient evil has time for emoticons?" he asks after a moment.

Akito pauses to consider that. "We could always ask him."

And it's clear that while Malicant makes Akito nervous and puts him on edge, he doesn't terrify him.

"If it's that ancient, it probably has plenty of time on its hands," Tony points out. "Maybe it's totally up on all the latest trends. Gotta have something to do while twiddling your thumbs in the void waiting to enact your master plan, right? You should ask it if it has a twitter."

It's clear that Malicant does not make Tony nervous enough.
