[ there are quite a few things akito would like to address, but just the thought of trying to find the right words for it all is exhausting. so he keeps it simple, and focuses on what he wants to ask the most: ]

...The Foreigners have a resistance to the zhyris but not an immunity, right?

[ his voice is scratchy and he sounds tired, but otherwise doesn't sound all that bad. and it's totally not related in any way to his question. nope. no way. ]

[ akito is generally one of them, but since this is something that could hurt others he isn't going to take risks. ]

All right. I don't think I know your address; what sector?

[And because there's no time like the present and this is... not quite an emergency, but very important, Raine sets out immediately. There's a gap for travel time, but she's at Akito's before too long, knocking on the door.]

[ akito doesn't feel up to answering the door, so bird does it for him: flies over, undoes the lock, then pushes the weight tied to the knob and perched on a small ledge just for these purposes. once the weight falls, the door opens. ]

'rashai!

[ bird's greeting is much more enthusiastic than akito's murmured one from under his blanket nest on his couch. ]

[She's a bit bemused, at first, by the bird, and, unclear on its level of sapience, errs on the side of caution and offers Bird a nod of greeting before focusing on Akito.]

[If he feels so miserable as to not even get up, she's definitely concerned. He's always seemed indefatigable in their previous interactions. Raine comes over, kneels beside the couch, shifting her staff out of the way with an absent motion.]

Akito? How are you feeling?

[ he could probably get up if he wanted to, but no - he had only just gotten comfortable, and why bother wasting energy and making his joints ache worse when he doesn't need to? Akito peek out from his blankets at Raine, huffing out a sigh. ]

More achy than usual, and tired.

[ can you tell how pleased he is by this development? how dare his body be so tired when he has things to do!! ]

[Tallies in the not good column. Still, it might yet just be a flu. She really, really hopes it's just a flu.]

Nothing else of note?

You said you couldn't tell if you have the rash. Can you stand or sit up long enough for me to examine you?

[ he sits up slowly, letting out a mildly disgruntled noise that makes Bird fly over to perch on his head, clearly attempting to cheer him on. ]

If I have a rash, it's somewhere I can't see or reach, so it would likely be on my back.

[The bird is adorable. She's still assessing whether or not it's more intelligent than the average bird.]

That seems logical. Your shirt, then, please.

[ guess who is wearing an oversized shirt and nothing else? This kid! Guess who also doesn't care about nudity? That's right! Also this kid!

He waves Bird away so that he can pull his shirt off, placing it on the sofa next to him. Bird immediately hops down into it to make a cozy, temporary nest - clearly planning to keep an eye on everything.

Before Raine can ask, Akito makes sure to turn around where he sits, exposing his back. He's actually pretty sure there is a rash there, but he really can't find it on his own. ]

[She wasn't quite expecting that but she takes it in stride, blinking only a little at the suddenness of it.]

[Is the bird... is the bird supervising? Raine nudges her estimate of its intelligence up a little higher.]

[She's more immediately distracted by what she sees, anyway, and there's a sharp intake of breath.]

...About how long have you felt this bad?"

It's been noticeably inconvenient for a few days, but it was much worse when I woke up today.

[ a sniff, and Bird peeps from where he's nested, making Akito giggle a bit. ]

It's possible this is the first day it's manifested. I wonder...

[Raine trails off, then shakes her head.] Never mind. Akito, you appear to have zhyris. I'd like to quarantine you until it's no longer communicable.

How many deliveries have you made in the past few days?

I'll stay here. Bird can't catch it, so it will be fine. Midii offered to take care of some of my deliveries while I can't, and I'll ask Tadashi-nii if he wants to cover the rest...

[ it makes him anxious though, and mentally calculating how many days he can miss before his savings will run out. ]

The past three days I have made... forty-seven? Something like that... More than usual, because of the zhyris going around. I was wearing gloves and something over my mouth and nose... To minimize risk of carrying it from one client to the next, ne?

[ biggest frown. ]

[Raine hesitates at a little at that, having Akito where she can't keep an eye on him like the rest of the currently secluded zhyris sufferers, but... he does have better sense than some people she deals with. As evidenced by his actually asking for help.]

All right. Be careful. Contact with the rash in particular seems to spread it most efficiently. Please let Midii and Tadashi know that if they begin to feel out of the ordinary, they should come to me or Milyn immediately.

[Raine sits back, sighs. In a moment:] ...You can put your shirt back on. Do you have enough food for a little while?

[ ugh so much effort. also Bird is still very cozy in said shirt. So he is just going to wrap up in his blanket again because that is more comfortable. ]

I should have enough for a week, at least.

[Or that works too.]

I'll come back to check on you every so often, if that's all right. There's only so much that can be done for zhyris-- don't shapeshift any more, if you have been. Rest. Radio me immediately if you feel significantly worse. The contagious period shouldn't last longer than a week.

[She hopes. She really hopes.]

The added resistance as a Foreigner should keep it from getting too severe... Ne?

[ he coughs a few painful coughs behind his hand, but ignores it save for scrunching his nose in annoyance and Bending a sphere of water to himself to drink. ]

This body isn't very strong, but it isn't young or frail enough for it to be dangerous?

It should, but even so, don't take the chance. Stick to one form until you're better.

[She gives Akito a quizzical look at that phrasing, only a few of their past discussions making it not outright suspicion. 'This body' is a warning bell for someone who's dealt with a body-stealing enemy.]

The only people who have died to my knowledge are... very young children and the very elderly. [Somber, but not overly mournful.] If you've been taking care of yourself, you shouldn't be in serious danger.

There's no point changing anyway, since I keep falling asleep.

[ ... 'if you've been taking care of yourself'... well, he's been trying. and improving. not being an infant or super old should make up the difference though, so no worries!

He nods. ]

Un, okay.

[Please let her have faith in your self-preservation instincts for a little while longer, Akito.]

[She does smile a little, though, askance look gone.]

All right.

I meant it when I said immediately. Since you're here alone... even if it's the middle of the night.

[She'd prefer it if he were at the Guild, but she's not going to force the issue.]
